The wind was fierce. The clothes Caleb bought hung loosely on my skeletal frame.
I felt nothing as the cold bit through my collar, belatedly realizing I had nowhere to go.
Out of habit,I walked back to the home I had shared with Nathan in Seattle.

Three years later,he hadn’t changed the lock.
A strange hope stirred—maybe Nathan still cared.
The door beeped open.
Before I stepped inside,I saw shirts and a dress scattered on the living room floor.
I bit my lip hard.
The house held no trace of me.

Our wedding photo on the wall was replaced with one of Nathan and Evelyn at the beach.
The tall man held the petite woman close, both were beaming with happiness.
Evelyn's coy voice drifted from the bedroom."Nathan, let's move soon.I keep feeling Sara's presence everywhere."
"Whatever you want.Don't mention her again. What's she compared to you?"

I covered my mouth, holding my breath, standing outside the bedroom door without making a sound.
Evelyn pressed,"Sara was a famous therapist.I'm just a kindergarten teacher.How can I compare?"
Nathan scoffed."Her?A washed-up ex-con.She'll be lucky to get a job as a cleaner after prison."
"Nathan, how did you know Sara would take the blame for you?"
Nathan let out a satisfied sigh, his voice smooth yet demonic."She loved me so much, she'd do anything for me.Your husband's dead,my wife's in jail—perfect for us,no gossip."
He chuckled."People think I stayed loyal to Sara. That devoted acted earned me a great reputation over the years ."
A tearing pain ripped through my heart,I felt nausea surging in my stomach.
I wiped away unconscious tears and quietly closed the door.
Trying to process what I'd heard,I still couldn't believe it.
The sunny boy who protected me had been blinded by wealth and desire since a long time ago.
Before learning the truth,I had foolishly thought that if Nathan and Evelyn split up,I could spend my remaining days with him.
But seeing betrayal with my own eyes, hearing the truth of my imprisonment with my own ears,my heart, which I thought couldn't hurt any more, felt like it was sliced and ripped to pieces.
The reality nearly suffocated me.
Turn out, I had nothing from the beginning.
I stayed at Caleb's place.
The mature prison doctor turned into an indignant student in my presence.
Caleb contacted a lawyer, drafting divorce papers.
After my repeated confirmation,he sent them to Nathan.
Seeing my haggard face,Caleb said worriedly,"Please, let me go with you to chemo."
I shook my head.
I wondered if Nathan would regret anything if I died.
I didn't know if he would, but he was furious when he received the divorce papers.
It seemed only he could abandon me,not the other way around.
