In a voice brimming with excitement,I told Daniel,“Honey,I’m pregnant! You’re going to be a dad!”
Daniel was thrilled.“Really?I’m going to be a dad?This can’t be a dream,can it?”
“Of course it’s real!I’ll send you the report right away so you can see for yourself.By the way, how’s your business trip going? When will you be back?I miss you so much.”
“I wish I could rush home to you,but this project will take a few more days.Hang in there, sweetheart—I’ll be back soon.”
I feigned a pout.“The bathroom light’s broken, and I don’t know how to fix it.I’m scared I’ll trip in the dark.Since you’re not back yet,can you ask Steven to come and help?”
Daniel hesitated.“I heard Steven mention he’s also out of town on business. Why don’t you call a repairman to fix it?You’re pregnant—don’t wait. It’s too risky.”
“Okay, honey.I’ll get it sorted.Take care of yourself out there—don’t make me worry.”
After hanging up,I confirmed Daniel wasn’t just on a business trip—he was off with Steven, enjoying a romantic getaway.
Their bond was incredibly strong.
If they could have been together without hurting others,I might have wish them well. But tricking someone into having a child for them?No one could accept that.
And Steven owed me a life.
Know your enemy, win the battle. With Daniel gone for a few days,I hired someone to install hidden cameras throughout, preparing for what was to come.
A week later,Daniel returned—accompanied by Steven.
Daniel said,“Steven heard you’re pregnant and insisted on coming to visit.”
Steven’s eyes lit up as he stared at my belly. An outsider might think I was carrying his child.
I understood his thinking. He saw himself as “lending”Daniel to me to temporarily to fulfill the task of having an heir. Now that the mission was complete,Daniel was his again.
I invited Steven to stay for dinner, which Daniel and Steven cooked.
As a pregnant woman,I deserved top-tier treatment—especially since,to them,I was valuable asset to be protected.
During dinner,I praised Steven’s cooking.
“Steven, you have no idea—at my and Daniel’s wedding, several girls from my office were smitten with you. They keep asking me to set you up.”
“Tell me what type you like, and I’ll play matchmaker. You’re not getting younger—it’s time to think about settling down.”
Steven glanced at Daniel, then said,“I’m not really thinking about marriage.I’m enjoying the single life for now.”
I leaned into gossip mode.“The single life? There’s nothing like being in a relationship!Look at me and Daniel—we are so happy.Cold nights are warmer with two,and meals are livelier.Tell me your type,Steven—don’t be shy.”
