AMELIA’S P.O.V

I walked out of the dining room and out the front door.

I knew I was being a tad bit unreasonable but it pissed me off to no end that he couldn’t just trust me. I didn’t want to have that conversation in front of everyone, I didn’t want that part of my life out there. We were having a child together for goddess sake and yet, he couldn’t just listen to me.

“Amelia!” Kaden’s voice echoed through the air as he rushed over to me. “Baby, please, just wait.”

I ignored him and heads straight for my car. My guards were nowhere to be seen. They must have left after Kaden arrived. It didn’t matter to me anyway, I could drive. It was a terrifying thought to go home alone but I was going to do it. I wasn’t going to sit back and give him the satisfaction.

I got to the door of my car when he placed a hand on the car door. “Please, Amelia, let me just talk to you, please.”

“I have nothing to say to you,” I crossed my arms over my chest without looking at him. “Just go, okay? I don’t want to see you right now.”

“I didn’t know.”

“And you couldn’t just drop it when I asked?” I exclaimed finally turning to him. “You didn’t trust me and you put me on blast in front of everyone.”

“That was not my intention. I didn’t know. I thought you were hiding something that was hurting you. I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”

I gave him a cold smile. “I’m fine, I know what I have to do now.”

“You can’t break our mating bond. We’re having a baby!”

A gasp cut through our conversation and I looked behind him to find Paula and Devin standing at the doorway. It was clear they had come with intentions to try and help mediate but they overheard him. It only made me more annoyed because I didn’t want to tell them this way.

“Great,” I mumbled. “That’s two things you’ve ruined for me.”

I placed my hands on his chest and slightly shoved him back, enough to open the door of my car and get in.

“Amelia-”

“Leave her, Kaden,” Caleb walked out of the house. “I’ll drive her home.”

“I don’t need a babysitter,” I snapped but Caleb brushed it off like it was nothing. “I can drive myself.”

“I know you can, but as he said, you’re pregnant and Blake hasn’t shown any signs of giving up yet. We’re not going to put you in danger because of an argument.”

He walked over to the driver’s side and gestured for me to scoot over. I wanted to be stubborn and refuse but I knew that he was right.  I couldn’t put myself and my baby in danger just because of a stupid argument.

“Whatever,” I mumbled as I moved over. “Drive.”

Kaden watched me the entire time. He whispered something in Caleb’s ears before taking a step back. There was a lot more that he wanted to say but for some reason, he kept it to himself and folded his hands into his pocket.

“I’ll be home soon,” he assured me but I turned away from him, not wanting to see his face anymore.

The drive was silent for the first few minutes. Neither Caleb nor I spoke and the stereo wasn’t on either. I just stared out the window knowing that I had overreacted but also not having it in me to apologize because I truly was hurt by his actions.

“He didn’t mean any harm, you know,” Caleb began slowly. “He was-”

“I don’t need you to defend Kaden to me.”

“I’m not defending him,” he sighed. “He was wrong to push it, especially after you repeatedly told him to drop it and said you’d hate him if he didn’t.”

I hesitated before speaking. “That’s what hurts the most, you know? I told him how pissed I would be if he continued and he did, maybe he thought I was bluffing. Maybe he thought it wasn’t important to him.”

“Kaden can be thick sometimes, but he means well. He just wanted to protect you, even if he did it the wrong way.”

“The way to hell is littered with good intentions,” I drawled. “Good intentions doesn’t change what he did and it doesn’t change how fucked up it was. He’s always doing shit with good intentions and I always forgive him but-”

I hesitated.

I was going to forgive him again, at some point, we were having a baby and my child wasn’t going to live without a father no matter what.

“Maybe I should get a witch to break my bond with Blake,” I said softly. “Perhaps it’s the mate bond that’s clouding my judgment.”

“Amelia, don’t make any rash decisions. You’re very emotional right now.”

I raised a brow. “Emotional? Is it because I’m pregnant or because I was taken for weeks?’

He swallowed deeply. “I didn’t mean it like that.”

He pulled into the driveway and I turned to him with a sad smile. “Goodnight, Caleb.”

I got out of the car without another word and headed straight for the door. I could feel Caleb watching me the entire time. I stopped with my hand over the doorknob and turned to face him.

“Are you going to stay here all night?” I asked and he shrugged. “You should come in, it’s a little cold and you can get some tea or something.”

“I’ll be fine, I’ll just be here until Kaden gets back. You don’t have to worry about me.”

“You’re going to call him right away, aren’t you?”

He didn’t say yes but he also didn’t say no. I opened the door when I heard his voice.

“Don’t break your bond over something this small,” his voice was so soft that I almost didn’t hear it. “You’ve already gone through so much. Just sleep it over and think it through, please.”

I didn’t respond, instead, I just walked in and shut the door behind me.
