AMELIA’S P.O.V
When Blake returned later, it was already nighttime. The moon was high in the sky and I could hear the crickets chirping outside. The only source of light was the tiny lamp on the small coffee table. I ran the plan over again in my mind being careful to make sure there were no holes in it when Blake walked in.
The first thing I noticed was the smell of blood. It smelled like him but I could also smell Kaden. I jumped to my feet and rushed over to his side. “What the hell happened?”
He didn’t seem injured for the most part, then again, he had been out the whole day. He opened his mouth to speak but cursed when he bumped into the couch. After that, I was quick to turn on the lights and I took him in completely.
There was blood on his wrist, blood on his face and on his clothes. It was as if he hadn’t bothered to get cleaned before coming here. Maybe he just wanted to show off his battle scars or maybe he wanted to appear tough in front of me. Whatever it was, I was happy because at least I could smell Kaden once.
“The bastard came to attack me,” he spat. “I know what he was doing though, my men already alerted me. While we fought, he had one of his cronies looking for you.”
My breath caught i9n my throat. I had been so close to getting out and I didn’t even know. I swallowed down the knot in my throat as I helped Blake into the chair not trusting myself to say anything on the matter.
“You don’t have to worry, he was looking in the wrong place. We aren’t as closer to my pack as he thinks. I sent the guards to make sure he didn’t make it here.”
“Guards?” I asked and he nodded.
“The ones that watch us. They’ll be back within two hours.”
“That’s a relief,” I forced the words out of my throat even though they tasted like ash. “Thank you for keeping me safe.”
He leaned up and kissed me. I could taste his blood and it almost made me gag but I forced myself to kiss him back, forced myself to pretend like I enjoyed it. It was all part of the plan, one I hated myself for but I was going to have to do it.
“I think this calls for a celebration,” I whispered against his lips, pulling back to get the bottle of wine I had seen him bring in a few days ago.
He watched as I poured the drink into two glasses. I waltzed over to him and handed him one. He watched it with apprehension and with a slight roll of my eyes, I took a sip from it.
“Do you really think I would try to poison you?” I allowed hurt seep into my voice. “After everything.”
“You’re right, I’m sorry,” he took the cup from my hands, downing the contents in one go and I tried to hide my smile. “You said something about a celebration.”
At this point, I smiled. “Yes, I did.”
I placed the other glass in his hands and shrugged off the robe I was wearing. Each move took more strength than I had ever known was possible. His eyes widened as he took in the sight of me in my underwear and I watched as he drank the contents of my glass. I felt relief course through me, I only had to do this for a few more minutes.
I straddled him, wrapping my arms around his neck as I did and he didn’t hesitate to place his hands on my waist. It felt wrong, and I prayed that the goddess would forgive me for what I was about to do. More than anything, I prayed that Kaden would forgive me as I kissed him.
His kiss was all shades of wrong. It was too fast, too rough and when he kissed down my neck and torso, I felt tears prick the back of my eyelids but I forced fake moans out of my mouth. He was rock hard against me and I knew more than anything that he wanted to fuck me but I prayed it wouldn’t get to that.
“Fuck, Amara, you’re gorgeous,” he whispered his hands trailing over my skin. “You look-”
The words died on his throat and he blinked twice, as if hazy.
“Are you alright?” I asked and he nodded.
“I’m fine, I just want this so much.”
He tried to kiss my neck again but his lips were sloppy, almost as if he didn’t have complete control of himself.
“Maybe I should get you some water,” I pulled off him and he made to follow me but he stumbled. “Blake? Do you need me to call someone? What should I do?”
“My phone, it’s in my pocket,” I reached out to grab it. “Call-”
The words died on his throat as he fell to the ground. I rushed over to him, checking if he was still breathing. His breaths were shallow but he was alive and for now, that was enough. I knew a few drops of that liquid would knock out your wolf but I didn’t know what a full bottle would do. A part of me had hoped it would kill him but I suppose his death would have been too messy.
I had put it in my drink, banking on the fact that he would be too stunned after seeing me half naked to make me test it first and I had put traces of it on my skin knowing he would touch me.
I grabbed the clothes I had hidden behind the chair and shrugged them on. I wasn’t sure how much time I had left.
I had already packed up some snacks in preparation. I took the keys from his pocket along with his phone. I was going to trash them but I needed to create a head start first of all.
Without looking back, I ran.”
