AMELIA’S P.O.V

It had been a week since my little outburst and Blake had been walking on eggshells around me. He did everything I wanted but stayed away from me to give me some space. It would have been cute if it wasn’t so pathetic. He brought me breakfast at the same time every day and ate from my plate each time to assure me that it wasn’t drugged anymore.

After the third day, I could feel the presence of my wolf. She wasn’t at her full strength yet but it was clear that she was gaining strength. I hadn’t told Blake yet, I didn’t want his attitude to change. Instead, I lied that my wolf was still dormant and she played along. She only showed up when he wasn’t present to keep up the ruse.

“I hate this,” she told me as I sat cross legged on the bed alone. “I want to be out of here. I want to be with Kaden. I can’t feel him.”

“I know,” I had given up trying to placate her. She wasn’t in the mood to listen and the truth was that I didn’t blame her. I wanted to be with Kaden as well. “It is only a matter of time. We just have to make Blake trust us some more.”

“How much more? Are you going to wait until you fuck him? He isn’t going to fully trust us until he thinks he can control you. You are withholding sex from him.”

I bit back a retort. She was grumpy because she wasn’t with her mate but a part of me feared that she was right. Would I be able to win Blake over completely? What if I never could? I knew Kaden was doing everything he could to find me but what if he couldn’t- what if he didn’t? What was going to happen then?

“Amelia!” hearing my name echo through the house had me cutting off the connection between myself and my wolf. I shoved up a wall between us and kept a smile on my face as Blake walked into the house. “I thought you were gone.”

I snorted. “Where would I go? I don’t even know where I am.”

“It is for your own protection,” he assured me as he placed a soft kiss on my forehead. “Now more than ever because Kaden is awake.”

My eyes widened to the point of saucers. I tried to hide my excitement and relief and instead forced fear onto my face. “Are you sure? I thought you said he was badly injured.”

“I thought so too but he pulled through. I don’t know when exactly he woke up but he is back to work.”

I could tell he was hiding something bad. The corner of his lips were tipped up in a small smile. He wouldn’t be this happy if he thought that Kaden was a potential threat and was close to finding him.

“What is it?” I asked. “What else are you hiding?”

“His arm is hurt. I don’t know how bad, it is something about silver but he can’t use it for a while. He would be stupid to try attacking me while he is hurt. That buys us a few days or weeks before we have to worry about him. I think I found a witch that can help with breaking our bonds and we can finally be together.”

It felt like my world came to a stop with those words. I didn’t want to break my bond, I didn’t want to ruin what I had with Kaden. I had to get out and I had to do it soon. I was quickly running out of time and it seemed like Kaden wasn’t going to be of any help for the forseeable future. It was just me right now and I had to come up with a plan quickly.

I tried to think of something but I kept coming up empty. I was surrounded badly. I couldn’t go more than two steps without someone finding me. I also didn’t know where I was and there was the issue of Blake never leaving me alone. Even now, he had only stepped outside to make a call. He hadn’t left me alone in the entire house.

“This is good news, Amelia,” he made to kiss me but I couldn’t bring myself to pretend this time. I turned to the side and his kiss landed on my cheek. “How long are you going to be pissed off at me? How long will you hold this against me?”

“I’m sorry, Blake, but you broke my trust,” I whispered softly. “You drugged me for weeks and my wolf isn’t even here yet. I don’t feel like kissing you right now. You haven’t even properly apologized for it. You’ve just avoided talking about it. You know how long I wanted to get my wolf and you ripped her from me.”

His gaze fell and guilt filled his features. I knew it was a low blow to play that card but I was going to do whatever I needed to do to make sure that I bought myself enough time. He stared at me for a full minute before cursing and storming out of the room. I thought he had gone when he suddenly returned with a vial of a clear liquid.

“This is what I used to drug you,” he held it up to me. “I’ll drink it. That will make us even, right?”

He opened the bottle and lifted it to his lips. I waited eagerly for him to drink it. If his wolf was dormant, I could use the opportunity to escape; I held my breath as he made to dump the content into his mouth when all of a sudden, his phone rang.

I cursed under my breath as he picked it up. I couldn’t hear what6 the other person was saying but judging by his reaction, it was not nice. He muttered a curse under his breath and hung up.

“I have to go,” he screwed the cap onto the bottle. “When I’m back, I swear I’ll drink-”

“Don’t bother,” I cut him off slowly taking it out of his hands. I stroked his cheek and kissed him softly. “You were going to do it, that is enough for me. I’ll throw it out.”

He hesitated. “Are you sure?”

“Don’t you trust me, Blake?”

His eyes softened and he kissed me once more. “I have to go. I’ll be back soon.”

I watched him rush off leaving the bottle in my hands. I stared at the small liquid that was going to help me escape and slipped it into a broken corner of the ground.
