AMELIA’S P.O.V
Blake kept a close eye on me while I ate. He walked towards the kitchen to give me a semblance of space but even I knew to take that with a grain of salt. I had already eaten most of the food and so far, nothing had happened so it was safe to say that it wasn’t poisoned.
My wolf was already rousing and she had regained very little of her strength but I could feel her going around in my mind. She was just as antsy as I was about the situation. It was unknown territory and I wasn’t sure how to act about this. The Blake I knew before would never have kidnapped a girl. So much had changed about him.
“Are you done?” he asked snapping me out of my thoughts. I wasn’t done by a long shot but my appetite was gone so I handed him the plate. “Did you enjoy it? I know I’m not a great cook but I think I did a good job.”
“It was great, thank you,” I gave him a small smile. All I could do was play nice in the hopes that I would find a way out. “Where are we, Blake? You never told me.”
“We are somewhere no one will ever find us,” he kept his answer as vague as possible. “If you are worried about Kaden-”
“I’m not,” I said quickly and when his eyes narrowed in my direction, I added. “I know you’re going to keep me safe. I’m just worried that someone will find us. Don’t you think that we will be safer in the pack?”
He snorted. “You don’t know much about defense and military tact, Amelia. The first place that Kaden will check is in the pack. I won’t put you in danger again, not until you’re completely mine.”
He made his way over to me and trailed his finger down my cheek. It took everything in me to not pull away from his touch. It felt cold and wrong and I wanted nothing more than to throw up.
He looked at me with what I could only describe as possessiveness and the reality of the situation hit me. He didn’t see me as someone he loved, he saw me as property, something he could own, something that belonged to him. He thought he was doing the right thing because in his head, I was his and I knew nothing I said or did would change that.
“Play his game,” Tara whispered to me. “if you want a chance to get out of here then beat him at his own game.”
I knew she was right so I swallowed deeply and leaned into his touch. “I missed you so much. I wanted to see you but Kaden wouldn’t let me. He said that you were a danger to me.”
“He lied,” Blake smiled softly thinking he was getting across to me. He sat beside me, pulling me into his hold. “I heard about how he hurt you and I knew that I needed to keep you safe. I failed you. I did everything I could to get you out. I can’t even talk about some of them, but I did it for you. I am Alpha now too, he can’t hurt you.”
“How did you become Alpha? Did you kill my father?”
“No,” he shook his head and as much as I hated myself for it, I felt relief. My father was a terrible person but he still had a lot of answers to give me, especially about my mother. “He wishes he was dead though. He is no one, he is nothing and I make sure to remind him of that every day.”
“You’ve changed.”
“So have you, you’re marked,” he spat out the last word and my hands flew to my neck. I had momentarily forgotten about it.
Blake must have mistook my expression for shame because he pulled me back into his chest and cooed into my ear as he smoothed my hair over my back. His touch was all shades of wrong and it felt like my skin was crawling but I had to do it, I had to pretend. It was the only way I was going to win his trust and get out of here.
“I know he forced you to do it,” he whispered. “You care too much about me to do that to me. He is responsible. I am not upset with you, Amelia.”
He placed a kiss on my hair and inhaled my scent. All I could do was stay still and pray that Kaden’s scent hadn’t lingered on me or that he simply assumed it was because of the mark.
“I’ll get rid of it.”
I pulled back from him sharply. “You can do that? How?”
“I’ll find a way,” I noticed he was staring at my lips. I tried to pull away but his hands cupped my cheeks and he pulled me closer to him. “I’ve missed you so much, haven’t you? Don’t you want me to show you how much I missed you?”
He leaned forward, his lips brushing mine. I wasn’t sure if I was going to push him away or not but thankfully, I didn’t have to because his phone rang. He muttered a small curse under his breath before leaving to pick up the call. As soon as he was gone, I hightailed it back to the room. I wanted to get into the bathroom and wash him off but I was scared that he would take that as an invitation so I simply crawled into the bed and shut my eyes tightly hoping he would assume I was sleeping.
It took ten minutes before he finally returned and he stared at me from the doorway. I forced my breathing to even out and remained immobile in bed. For the longest time, he just stared at me before moving. I heard the wood creak as he climbed into bed behind me. His arms wrapped around me as he pulled me against him, my back to his chest.
“Sleep, Amelia, tomorrow will be better for us.”
