KADEN’S P.O.V

I dropped Amelia off at school for the first time since we started seeing each other. She tried to discourage me from the idea but I was set on it. I didn’t want to hide her, I wanted everyoneto know that she was the one I had chosen. For a second, I worried there was another reason she didn’t want me dropping her off but she assured me that she just didn’t want people to stare.

At the end of the day, she agreed and she had her face buried in her hands the entire time. Her cheeks were red from the moment we got into the parking lot and they got worse when I kissed her deeply not caring who was watching. I saw the looks of shock and interest on the faces of the students but I didn’t care much about it. I waited until she had gotten into the building before I drove off.

I immediately drove towards the hospital. All through last night, I couldn’t stop thinking about what I had been told. I had a feeling there was more to the story than what Dr. Brown was telling me and since I had promised her that I wasn’t going to speak to my mother about it, she was the only one I could go to.

Just like before, she was with a client when I walked into the office. This time, she didn’t evenneed to speak before the client walked out.As soon as the client was gone, I turned to her. “What didn’t you tell me?”

She was shocked by my question but she managed to hide it well. If it weren’t for my years of being trained to stop things like this, I would have never been able to tell.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Alpha,”her voice wavered slightly and that was all I needed to know that she was lying.

“I don’t want to make this difficult Dr. Brown, this is the part where you tell me the truth. Whataren’t you telling me?” she stayed quiet as I slowly took the seat opposite her. “My mother is very paranoid. She would never put too many hands in the same pot. If she came to you to help me then she would have told you what she planned to do to ensure that I never remembered. I could ask her myself but that is very time consuming. This is the lastchance I will give you to answer.”

I could tell she was debating my words and I counted down from three in my head. By the time I reached one and she hadn’t responded, I stood to my feet. She must have realized that if I left, she was going to lose everything.

“Wait,” she called out and I stopped. “She had me suppressyour memories with a potion she got from the black market. I don’t know anything more about it. All I know is that I administered the potion and gave you therapyto make sure you never remembered.”

“Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?”

“I was scared,” she admitted. “I thought you would talk to her and she would come after me. I apologize.”

“Give me my memories back.”

“I can’t,” she said too quickly and I narrowed my eyes at her.

“I know when you’re lying, Dr. Brown, I will not ask again. Give me back my memories.”

She opened her mouth to speak but closed it almost immediately. “I cantry but like I said earlier, I don’t know much about the potion used. It will take the entire day.”

“It is a good thing that we have time.”

She locked up her office for the day and led me towards the uncomfortable hospital bef. The last time I found myself in one of them was when I was twenty and I attacked a group of rogues. I miscalculated their numbers and I got badly hurt. I wiped them all out but at the risk of almost bleeding out. I was in bed for a day before I realized how much I hated it and I swore to never do it again but here I was.

The first thing she did was inject me with a drug that had me feeling woozy. She assured me that it was to lower my inhibitions and make it easier to access my mind. I hated the lack of controland I wanted to call an end to it but I needed to know what I was dealing with and that was the only reason I remained still.

She asked a few questions that I could barely remember and she tried to probe about that day but nothing seemed to be working. I could barely remember what I was doing there. I didn’t realize how much time had passed until she helped me out of the bed and I saw how dark it was through the curtains. She handed me a glass filled with clear liquid and I downed it without any questions.

“The effects of the drug would be wearing off by now but this will ensure that you have enough energy to get through the night,” she didn’t need to talk about what had happened, it was clear that it didn’t work. “I’m sorry, Alpha but I tried my best. Maybe if I knew what potion she used then I would be able to combat it. My powers as healer are limited.”

“I will find a way,” I assured her as I stood to my feet. “Even if it means forcing my mother’s hand.” Her eyes widened and she openedher mouth to speak but I cut her off. “Our dealexpired the moment you lied to me. I do not tolerate lies¸ Dr. Brown. I never have and I never will.”

She sighed and bowed. “Yes,Alpha.”

I was still unsteady on my feet but I managed to get myself out of her office and into the car. Thankfully, the drugs didn’t dullany of my senses. I wanted to go to Amelia but I knew that she would ask many questions that I couldn’t answer. I didn’t want to tell her about this business until I was sure that I had all the answers.

I drove straight to my house and I was shocked when I saw Caleb’s car outside. I instantly knew that something had to be wrong because Caleb would never be at my house this late unless it was important. I got out of the car and managed to find my way to the door only to meet it open. He was seated on my couch and he practically jumped up when I arrived.

“Where have you been?” he all but yelled. “I searched the entire pack for you,” I collapsed on the chair and his brows furrowed in concern. “Are you alright?”

“Yes, what was so important that you had to be at my house this late?”

He looked like he wanted to protestand find out what was wrong but at the last minute, he sighed. “I have some news about Blake.”

BLAKE’S P.O.V

Brittany’s excitement was irritating to say the least. She was practically jumping in her seat as she asked over and over again where I was taking her. I tuned her out after five minutes but every time I got a glimpse of her in the mirror, I resisted the urge to push her out. If she knew where I was really taking her, she wouldn’t have been so excited.

“Blake,” she whined. “Baby, I need you to tell me something.”

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her and instead turned to her with a small smile. “We are already here, darling.”

Her eyes widened and she squealed with barely contained excitement. I had set the venue in a large garden. It wouldn’t have been Brittany’s ideal spot for a date but I knew that the ceremony had to take outside under the moonlight. I could see the confusionas she got out of the car holding up her long white dress so it didn’t touch the ground.

“Are you sure that white was the right option?” she asked referring to the fact that I had chosen the dress and all but forced her into wearing it. “The ground is a little wet and my heels are sinking in.”

“A simple thank youfor the date will suffice,” I shot back and her cheeks were tinged pink in embarrassment. “Our table is waiting, come.”

She held out her hand for me to take but I pretended as if I didn’t see it and walked ahead of her. I could see her struggling to keep up with my pace. When we got into the garden, her steps falteredas she took in the lack of decorations.I could feel her confusion and I could tell that she had a lot of questions but she kept them all to herself.

I made my way to the makeshift altar and held out a hand to her. She noticed the priest there and that was whenawareness settled on her. “Blake, I don’t think this is right.”

“Don’t you want to be mated with me?” I asked and she fell silent. “This is what we wanted, isn’t it or was that a lie? I thought you wanted to rule, I thought you wanted power.”

“I do,” her morale was cracking and I knew it. “Don’t you think we should do it the right way with everyone? My father won’t be happy.”

“He doesn’t have to know,” I cut her off as I made my way over to her and grabbed her hand. “Are you going to spend the rest of your life doing what you want or are you going to grow a pair of balls?”

I didn’t give her a chance to protest before I signaled the priestto begin. It was obvious she didn’t want it but I didn’t care, I wanted her to be mine and I wasn’t giving her the chance to say no. As soon as the priest was done and we had drank from the chalice, I could see the regret on her face. I knew that the first chance she got, she was going to try to break the bond.

“I thinkwe should head back,” she murmured while glancing at the now empty garden. “This was one hell of a date, I guess.”

“I am so glad you did this with me,” I whispered to her and she gave me a smile that resembled a grimace. I leaned down to kiss her and pulled her into a hug.She was not very enthusiastic about it as she awkwardly patted my back. I pulled back slightly and stroked her hair. “Let us make it more official.”

“What do you mean?”

The words were barely out of her mouth before I sank my teeth into her neck, officially marking her as mine.
