AMELIA’S P.O.V

Kaden was gone by the time I woke up and I felt a pang of loneliness in my chest. Last night, he had settled between my thighs and eaten me out while I fought to stay silent. He made sure I came twice before settling me into his arms. I wanted to reciprocate but he stopped me saying that he just wanted to hold me.

I fell asleep with my head on his chest and his hand stroking my hair and he had assured me that he would be right there when I woke up. I tried to push down the disappointment that had climbed up my chest as I got ready for training. I went through the movements on autopilot trying not to glance over at the empty side of the bed that Kaden lay.

Just as I was about to leave, I noticed something on my work desk. It was a piece of paper that wasn’t there before and my name was scrawled over it. I picked it up and wasted no time in opening it. I couldn’t stop the face splitting grin that creeped up my cheeks as I read it. It was from Kaden and although it wasn’t detailed, he had explained that he had some important work to get to and he was going to see me later. I let out a small squeal and just like that, the dark cloud over my head was gone.

I was a ray of sunshine at training and I didn’t complain once despite how my body was protesting from the strain. Even while I got dressed for school, I was humming to myself. I was sure everyone was concerned because I was never this happy. When I stepped out of my room fully dressed with my hair held up in a bow, Clara raised a brow at me.

“I am all for a good mood but is there anything in particular that has you this happy?” I shook my head and she smirked. “Are you sure because it didn’t sound like that last night?”

My cheeks heated and I hid it by stealing a piece of toast fromher plate and biting into it. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“I was the one who let him into the house last night and out of it this morning. You can’t lie to me even if you wanted to,” she whispered. “It’s okay though, I am happy that you are both happy. I’m proud of you.”

“Thank you,” my eyes threatened to water. It had been a while since anyone had uttered those words to me and they warmed my entire being. “I should go or I will be late.”

“I’ll see you later,” she called out but I was already out of the house.

As I got into my car, I allowed myself to take a deep breath. The truth was that I was terrified to go to school. I knew nothing could change my bad mood but I was unsure of whether or not Lucy knew about us. The last thing I wanted was for Lucy to throw a fit and embarrass me in school. It wasn’t that I was embarrassedto be with Kaden- quite the contrary actually. The truth was that Lucy had told everyone who cared to listen that she was going to be Luna and if she knew that wasn’t happening then I feared her actions.

While I was thinking, my phone buzzed with an incoming notification. I picked it up and when I saw who it was, I smiled.

Kaden: Have a good day, baby.

That message was all the motivation that I needed to turn on the car and begin driving.

I was able to get to school in one piece and I sawSerena at the door. I rushed over to her and walked in step with her. She turned to me with a confused look in her eyes but took my hand and walked with me. I kept an eye out for Lucy but it seemed like she was not in school. I let out a sigh of relief because it meant that I had a few more minutes of peace.

“Are you searching for someone?” Serena’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I turned to her. “You look different today, did something happen?”

I shook my head and forced my face to remain impassive as memories from the past two days filled my head. If I closed my eyes, I could still feel his touch on my skin and the scent of us mixing in the air. I had to clear my throat and blink rapidly in an attempt to remind myself that I was in school and it was the wrong place to have filthy thoughts about Kaden.

“Nothing, I just had a good weekend,” I said in response to her earlier question and she hummed in disbelief. Before I could ask what she meant by that, she leaned forward and sniffed me. I stood immobile and unblinking as she pulled back with a smirk on her face.

“You got laid,” she whispered and although I wanted to deny it, the flush on my cheeks betrayed me. “I knew that was why you were glowing. It was recent too because a few days away from each other and that scent should have cleared off but I can smell him on you.”

She leaned forward to sniff me again and I swatted her away. “That’s weird, we are in public.”

“At least I’m whispering,” she shrugged. “Tell me who he is. I don’t recognize that scent anywhere.” I stayed silent and she rolled her eyes. “Come on, Amelia. Is he at least a member of the pack or someone I know?”

“You definitely know him,” I muttered and she squealed. “I can’t tell you who he is because there are some things that need to be handled first. I know this isn’t what you want to hear but I promise that as soon as I can, I will let you know.”

Her eyes narrowed and she took a step back. “Is he married? Is he already mated? Is he hurting you? If it is any of the above then Amelia, you deserve better. You shouldn’t be someone’s dirty little secret.”

I could tell that she was getting angry for me so I grabbed her shoulders. “Serena, it is none of those things. I can’t explain more but I promise you that we aren’t a secret.”

She didn’t look convinced but she sighed and nodded. She took a step back and we realized that we were in an almost empty corridor. “We better get to class. I’m not forgetting this conversation, Amelia. We wills have it sooner or later.”

I managed to avoid the conversation for the rest of the day. Even during our break when we went to the café, I somehow managed to turn the entire conversationaround and I felt proud of myself for my master avoidance skills. That pride didn’t last long because I saw Lucy after our break. We were heading out of our lastclass when I saw her walking down the hallway.

She was typing away furiously on her phone and fear seized me as I realized that she was walking towards me. I couldn’t turn around and walk away because it would have raised suspicion so I kept going praying that she would take a turn but she didn’t.I tried to step aside but there was nowhere to go and her shoulder bumped mine.

She turned to me with anger. “Why don’t you use your eyes when you’re walking? My coat is designer and even if you sold everything you owned, you would never be able to afford it.”

I swallowed deeply and opened my mouth to apologize but Serena cut in. “You were the one with your head buried in your phone. Instead of pointing fingers, why don’t you blame yourself?”

Lucy narrowed her eyes at both of us and she opened her mouth to speak but changed her mind at the last minute. “I don’t even care anymore.”

I watched as she walked away and Serena ran her eyes over me. “Are you alright?” she asked and I nodded. “I don’t know what has gotten into her. Can you believe that she might be Luna someday? The day that happens is the day I leave this pack because I would rather be a rogue than answer to her.”

“Just forget about her,” I said not knowing what else to say.

We walked out of the school and I noticed a crowd was formed. I cast a glance at Serena and I could see that we both had the same idea. We were too short to see from the back so we pushed our waythrough until we got to the front and I realized what the ruckus was about.

“What is the Beta doing here?” Serena whispered as she stared at Caleb. “He hasn’t been here since he graduated.”

Caleb stood in the center of the school with shades over his face and his eyes cast down on his phone. He was tapping away without a care in the world and I couldn’t help but wonder the same thing that Serena did. He was standing in front of a sleek black sports car and the door was wide open.

Someone in the crowd must have heard Serena’s question because he turned to us. “Apparently he came to pick up someone. Lucy thought it was her but he all but threw her out of the car.”

Serena laughed but there was no smiling for me because if he was here to pick up someone then there was a high possibility that person was me. I started inching back into the crowd slowly when Caleb raised his head and his eyes landed on me. He took off his shades and stared at me with an almost bored expression.

“Finally, I have been waiting everywhere for you,” Caleb slipped his phone into his pocket. “Let’s go Amelia, the clock is ticking.”

Serena turned to me with wide eyes. “You’re sleeping with the Beta?”

I scrunched my nose distastefully. “No way, he is like a brother to me.”

“He came to pick you up and he called you by name. What do you call that?” she looked a little hurt and I wanted to explain to her but all eyes were on me and Caleb was waiting.

“I promise I will explain later,” I told her as I slowly made wayover to Caleb. I got into the passenger side and shut the door. “My car is here.”

“Clara already took it home. Kaden asked me to tell you that he is busy right now but from today, someone will take you to and from school.”

“I can drive myself.”

He chuckled dryly. “Try telling him that.”
