At graduation, I finally worked up the courage to confess to Adrian Young—the guy I'd been secretly pining after forever.
Across the street, Adrian posed for photos in his graduation gown, looking impossibly handsome. I dashed toward him, completely missing the red pedestrian light.
BANG! The car slammed into me and my world went black.
I woke to a stark white ceiling swimming into focus.
To my shock, Adrian stood beside my hospital bed.
He looked as gorgeous as ever. We'd never been this close before.
His eyes drifted from the IV drip down to my face.
My heart skipped when I spotted a ring on his left hand.
After all this time loving him from afar… was he already married?
I swallowed my disappointment and forced a smile. "Adrian? Why are you here?"
I tried sitting up but winced—my arm was wrapped in thick bandages.
Adrian sat down beside me, his voice as cold as winter.
"Ms. Bennett, quite the dramatic performance. Risking your life just to force a divorce?"
I gaped at him. What the hell was he talking about?
Divorce?
I hadn't even finished college, let alone gotten married. How could we possibly be discussing divorce?
A nurse bustled in with a tray of fresh bandages.
"Dr. Young, still here? Miss, you're incredibly lucky. Dr. Young was passing by after your accident and immediately provided emergency care. Without him, you'd have more than just a broken arm."
As the nurse carefully cleaned my wound, she moved my hand aside. That's when I saw it—a ring on my right ring finger!
And it perfectly matched the one on Adrian's hand.
A matching set!
My mind reeled. The moment the nurse left, I grabbed Adrian's sleeve.
"You are Adrian Young, right? The one who graduated from Westlake Medical School in 2018?"
Adrian yanked his sleeve away, his face twisted with disgust as he stared at me coldly.
"Now that you're awake, let's discuss our divorce agreement."
