Robert Blanchett, dressed in an elegant suit, had the air of a villain making a grand entrance, "Well, well, well, looks like I arrived just in time."

He elegantly rotated his wrist, casually moving the gun barrel between me and Jack, finally settling on Jack's bleeding arm, his face radiating undisguised pleasure.

"Robert!" Lucas Thorne, having survived the ordeal, immediately grabbed this lifeline, roaring: "Kill him! Kill him!"

I was shocked—how could Robert possibly be on Lucas's side?

But Robert was clearly in no hurry to act. He walked closer to me and Jack, "Jack—"

Jack pulled me behind his relatively uninjured side, shielding me with his body.

"Jack Thorne," he pronounced Jack's name, "you're too dangerous. In the entire Thorne family, only you make me feel threatened. Keeping you alive makes me uneasy."

"So you team up with the Blanchett family's enemy?" Jack scoffed.

"No, no, no," Robert wagged his finger, "there are no eternal enemies, only eternal interests." He looked up at Lucas, "Right, Patriarch?"

I didn't understand: "How did you convince Lucas Thorne to team up with you?"

"He's done too many bad things," Robert shrugged, "I caught some dirt on him, and he didn't want it made public~"

Jack looked darkly at Lucas with sinister eyes, "So, you're the traitor to the Thorne family."

Lucas was provoked, "Traitor? You're the one! Everything I've done has been for the Thorne family!"

He ordered Robert, "Kill them!"

Gunfire instantly erupted!

"Run!" Jack suddenly pushed me toward a pile of abandoned wine barrels, while he quickly returned fire from behind cover.

Even with his injured arm, his movements remained swift and precise.

I rolled behind cover, took out my gun, and shot at Robert to provide cover for Jack.

"Your plan didn't include this psycho Robert!" I shouted at Jack while changing magazines.

"My plan didn't include you sleeping with me either!" Jack retorted without looking back, then pulled me to escape down the street.

We fled into the forest outside the manor.

Jack had lost too much blood and was deathly pale.

"Let me treat your wound first!" I stopped him, making him sit under a tree.

His face was pale, his forehead sweating. I tore some strips from his tattered shirt, wrapped them around his wound to stop the bleeding.

Jack leaned against the tree trunk, tilting his head to look at me, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, "Miss Killer, you-you're tearing my clothes again."

Looking at his bleeding wound, I was in no mood for jokes.

Robert had aimed that shot at me, and Jack was wounded because he saved me...

My emotions were in turmoil, and I couldn't sort them out. I didn't understand why he needed to protect me. With his abilities, if he hadn't been injured, what would he fear from Robert and Lucas?

After treating the wound, I couldn't help but ask: "Why did you save me?"

Jack smiled helplessly, "Who told you to deprived of my virginity? I want you to take responsibility."

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, looking at Jack Thorne with complex emotions, my heart racing.

I grew up with Nancy in the slums, scurrying like rats through the streets and alleys of Sfortuna. These places were filled with lies, calculations, betrayals, making it hard for me to offer genuine feelings to anyone.

But undeniably, right then, I was somewhat moved.

"I never thought the great Jack Thorne would end up like this," I said helplessly.

Jack shrugged, "We can't stay here."

I became serious, "What's the next step?"

Jack Thorne looked at me, and I grew more serious, ready to hear his next plan.

But Jack smiled, "Miss Killer, didn't you want to become famous? This is such a good opportunity. I'm completely defenseless. You could do anything to me."

I was stunned. No! Seriously? How can you joke at a time like this?
