Whatever was cooking smelt like shit, I thought opening my eyes.

Looking around, I discovered I was in a room before I recognized the feeling of a soft bed under me.

There was no one in the room but there was someone in the house. Maybe more than one, I could hear noises coming from outside the door. Probably were that god awful smell was coming from.

Wait.

I sat up instantly and fell back into the pillow from the instant pain in my skull.

‘You foolish masochist, settle the fuck down!!' Adrian snapped.

‘Adrian?' I called, hoping I wasn't hallucinating from the pain.

‘Yes foolish pup of mine, your movement isn't appreciated by me or our body at this moment.'

My vision instantly blurred with tears.

‘Adrian…'

‘It's alright foolish pup,' his voice softened. ‘I'm here, you can't get rid of me that easily.'

‘Thank you, thank you for coming back…' I felt the pillow under me get wet from how hard I was crying.

I will always remember how it felt. The emptiness, the sudden coldness and how I felt like I was going 6-feet,lost forever because I was losing a part of myself. Half of who I was just forcefully snatched from me.

‘There's no need to cry. It's alright now,' Adrian murmured but I could feel his awkwardness. He had never been good at comforting me.

I chuckled but didn't bother drying my tears. I would shed as much as I can for that moment.

Thank you Goddess. Thank you.

‘Do you have an idea how long I've been here?' I asked, deciding to not think about what went down the last time I was awake.

‘From what I remember, it has not been up to a day.'

I observed him for a few minutes. Something was different.

‘Adrian…'

Searing pain filled my mind followed by images. Disturbing images.

I saw him. That bastard and his stealing creepy sorcerer, these must be after I had passed out. Adrian was bound with blood red chains and forced into Antonio as that creep chanted in loud volumes.

I watched as Antonio's wolf instinctively tried to kill Adrian who had been forced into his space but Adrian held his ground. He would have been lost to me forever of he hadn't held his ground.

Then, I watched what Antonio forced the two wolves to become and how Leila had unknowingly freed my wolf from Antonio's clutches with a little aid from Antonio's tired wolf.

‘He never told me his name,' Adrian whispered. ‘Even though he used his dying breath to undo whatever that sorcerer did, he never told me his name.'

‘Adrian, I'm sorry you had to go through all that.' My tears continued their reign, happy for this momentary freedom. ‘It's my fault. I shouldn't have been so careless, I should have listened properly to my surrounding…'

‘It's alright pup. I don't blame you in any way. There's no drop of magic in your body so I didn't expect you to notice a sorcerer's trap.'

I sniffed, amused that he had somehow found a way to drop an insult.

‘Okay. No more sorcerers for now.'

‘For fucking ever!! I'm bloody grateful that the Luna and Alpha killed that rotten bastard.'

Laughing, I finally wiped my face. ‘I can't believe I actually miss your dirty mouth.'

Adrian grinned, ‘I will remind you of this moment for the rest of our lives.'

‘I'm counting on you to do so.'

The door slammed open and Damien rushed in.

'I told those fools downstairs to keep their mouths shut, but no…" He quietly closed the door behind him and carefully opened the curtains. Then, dropped a tray on the table, unaware of my stare.

'... It's like they don't know how to behave. Maybe adding more laps to their daily exercise would teach them. You'll have to do so when you wake up…"

'What about now?" I asked.

Damien froze for a second before turning around so fast. I became concerned for his internal organs.

'Grey…" He lowered himself by my side and took my hand in his. I clutched it in return.

'Hey. Just a few hours of me being off the scene and you want to punish everyone?"

'They annoy me."

I smiled. His eyes roamed my body, probably searching for any visible injury.

'How are you feeling? I need a honest answer please."

Chuckling, I tried to stretch but my sore muscles told me with biting pain that they didn't want to be moved.

'Like I've been stumped on by a herd of elephants."

He smiled, 'it will get better now you're awake."

'You carried me here didn't you?" His soft countenance told me that much.

'Yeah. We suddenly couldn't feel your wolf. It was frightening. Hera appeared the moment I reached the house, she started doing her thing on you immediately and is currently cooking something for the pain.

'Smells edible," I sassed

He chuckled, 'you'll like it then."

Damien gently rubbed my knuckles with his thumb, his eyes shone suspiciously.

'Thank you for waking up. I was really scared when I couldn't sense you…" He sniffed and let out a forced chuckle. '... Hera had to kick me out of the room as she treated you."

Smiling, I squeezed his hand. 'I'm sorry. You went through so much trouble worrying about me."

'I'll collect what I'm owed when you feel better."

'Yeah?" My eyes fell to his lips.

The door flew open and I glanced away. Leila walked in with Alpha Xander behind her.

'Grey!!" She rushed to my side, deliberately or not, she went to the side Damien wasn't occupying. 'I want to hug you so bad but Hera said I can't. Thank the goddess you're okay. We killed those bastards and it wasn't quick."

'Thank you. I'm sorry for troubling you."

'Nonsense," Hera said walking in. Thankfully, she didn't bring whatever she had cooked with her.

'That's right. Once you can start eating proper food, I will make all your best meals," Leila said, giving my hand a little squeeze.

I smiled, 'I'll look forward to it then."

'Thank you for not dying on us, Grey," Alpha Xander said.

'I tried my best."

He chuckled then his eyes changed. I froze under his stare, instinctively knowing I was looking at his wolf. The room became silent.

'You are alright. No shifting for a week until you feel more in sync with your human."

For the first time in my life, I felt Adrian surface close enough to speak through me.

'Yes Alpha."
