**LEILA**
"Leila, I know it's painful but the day is already fully blown and the whole village is alive. We would have to walk faster than we are for them not to catch up with us." Damien stated as he increased his pace and I had to increase mine too, to be able to keep up with him.
"Can I get an explanation now on way you're helping me? What would you gain from it? What are you getting out of it?" I queried, I couldn't see Damien doing something that he wouldn't benefit from in any way. People might be selfless but as much as I know, Damien isn't.
"At least, I'll be on the side of Justice and besides, if you're talking of a breach of loyalty, Antonio caused it." His face appeared sour and it seemed like a sad memory had flashed between his eyes.
Don't ask me how I know, I just know.
Anyways, it was clear that he had an issue with Antonio.
"Does that mean if Antonio apologized, you're prone to go back to his side and divulge our hide out?" I asked ,I just couldn't stop the questions from flooding out of my mouth.
"Leila, I'm not a demon. You know that right?" He questioned and I tiled my eyes while I kicked at a branch that was obstructing my walk.
"Can you just answer the question? Because if that's what's going on, you can as well tell me so I can end your life right here, and right now." I rolled my eyes as I created more distance between I and him.
"It's funny because you can absolutely do that but Antonio doesn't apologize and you know that." Damien adjusted the sling shot on his back as he held a sad smile. I wanted to ask what was going on with him but right now, the questions I was asking were more valuable.
"I can't be so sure, if it's in his favor, he would apologize." I spoke vehemently as my mind went back to the sight of Antonio on his knees, something that made my heart flutter and I felt proud of myself.
"He won't." Damien maintained his stand.
"Well, that's not what happened when I set Amelia on fire. He went on his knees and begged me to spare her."
"You've got the power. He had that much respect for you because you're useful to him, he needs you for the immortality sacrifice and that's quite different from me. He doesn't need a thing from me, the only thing he wanted from me has been accomplished already."
"But what if he eventually does, weigh your options."
"It's irreversible and if he gets that close to me to apologize, I'll fight with him till I eventually die because he's going to kill me. He's more skillful.." He paused and stared into my eyes like he was contemplating on telling me the truth or if he should just keep it bottled in.
"How so?"
"Leila, I know you hate me because of everything that has happened and I'm so sorry. I'm so so sorry, I was clouded by a thirst of power that I forgot what was right to do." His eyes looked moist and took every self control in me for me not to roll my eyes in disgust.
No man should be a cry baby especially this one that has watched me suffer.
"He told me that if I helped him reunite with his niece, he would make me an Alpha. I didn't see any harm in it untill he brought his terms and conditions and that involved dating Amelia, it all escalated when I found out that she was my mate." He had paused and we were just standing in the middle of the forest.
"I wanted to leave, I didn't want to be part of any of their schemes but I couldn't leave. They had my younger sister kidnapped and threatened me that any day I planned on leaving them was the day my sister would see her last. I was scared, she was too young to die." I knew that his sister had been kidnapped some time in our pack when she had gone missing but when we didn't hear any call for ransom, everyone concluded that she must have strayed and gotten killed by rouge's.
"I couldn't help myself so I had to do their biddings like their puppet and it hurts." He was sniffling but his face was rigid like he wasn't on the verge of breaking down.
"So what made you help me now? They might find out you helped and they would still kill your sister if they still have her." I was genuinely worried now not for me but his little sister who had a whole life in front of her and got it intertwined with that son of a devil.
That's Antonio is supposed to be, son of the devil. I can't even start to imagine that he shares the same blood with my mum. It made me begin to question my ancestors, maybe one of them was this deranged because that's the only thing that can explain his behavior. Not justify but explain.
"You don't need to help me if that's going to endanger your sister, you can't trade her life for anything." I advised and I saw that flash of sadness in his eyes. There's something wrong here.
"She's already dead, he killed her out of anger when they didn't bring Alpha Xander's body to him after the raid." He stated and I gasped.
Antonio is the devil himself not the son! Even the devils son would have some kind of limitations and that's why Antonio can't be the devil's son, he is the devil himself. He has no limitations and though I've never considered murdering someone, if I was given the opportunity to kill him, I would and I won't even feel anything.
He isn't human or a werewolf who had a heart, I feel like there was black and dark room where his heart is supposed to be.
"That's why your helping me." I muttered as we resumed walking.
"Yes. I know you don't trust me and I don't want you to accept me back as your once betrothed. All I want you to do is let me help you, please." He pleaded and I nodded while we kept walking.
"Leila, I'll shift to my wolf form now and you'll hop on me. If we keep walking, they'll catch up with us even before we cross the boundary." He stated handing over the sling bag he was holding.
"But changing to your wolf form might attract rouge's." I stated genuinely worried, my voice laced with concern as I face palmed myself.
"It's the only other option we have instead of been caught." And before I could say anything else, he had already shifted into his wolf form. A normal sized grey wolf.
I hopped on his back as I held the sling bag tightly while he sprinted off. The wind on my face and on my hair brought a smile on my face as I wondered what it would feel like when I finally access my wolf and wolf out. If there was anything I had learnt these few days, it was the fact that I wasn't totally wolfless as I had believed from the onset.
I had a wolf but my bond with her was weak. She was there, anyway.
I knew when my ears suddenly perked up to my surroundings when danger was near. The way I was able to see in the tunnel, no normal person without a wolf would be able to .
And then my sharp hearing!
He was right, we had covered more grounds than we would have if we were walking with foot and it made me regret why I had such poor bond with my wolf.
I could only imagine how many grounds we would have covered if I could shift and he had no load he was carrying.
We were at the front of a pack and they didn't restrict entry of a wolf carrying a young lady, they didn't even look twice like it was a sight they were used to seeing.
That's it! Now I finally get it. I finally understood why they didn't question the act here. Inside their streets were filled with lots of wolves carrying women around and from the happy words that were thrown, I found out that it was their lovers and mates carrying them around.
How convenient!
"New bride?" A lady called out to me so she blew kisses and I was confused on what to even reply while Damien kept walking like he knew exactly where he was going.
We got to a particular family and the door was open so he just walked in and there they were.
My brother!
An old lady and her husband!
Bunch of beautiful looking children.
And Alpha Xander!
