Hades' POV
It was past midnight and the room was a little dark except for the soft night light that was near the crib.
I held Noah in my arms when he cried and his tiny fingers waved into the air.
'Alright, alright," I whispered. 'I got you, my little baby"
I glanced over my shoulder and Jane was asleep, right under the blanket and she looked so tired and I didn't want to wake her at all.
I gently rocked Noah and paced the room in slow steps. 'Shhh, it's okay, daddy is here."
I sang a lullaby for him, but it was out of tune, and I forgot the words halfway, but I kept singing anyway.
'Twinkle, twinkle, somehow star, how I wonder why, where are you, where are you"
Noah calmed down a little and he let out a small sigh, and then stared up at me with his big eyes and I kept walking, back and forth, back and forth.
Then I smelt it.
'Oh man," I said, wrinkled my nose. 'Did you just poop?"
Noah blinked like he was proud of himself.
'Alright," I whispered. 'Let us change you."
I walked to the changing table and I fumbled with the diaper wipes and powder. It's not easy with one hand holding his legs and the other trying to pull the tape.
'Okay, tape here, no, wait, that's the wrong side. Crap."
Behind me, I heard a soft laugh.
I looked back, Jane's eyes were open and she was watching me from bed, her face glowed in the dim light.
'You are doing great," she said.
'Yeah?" I glanced at the messy diaper. 'I feel like I am fighting a small wild animal."
She laughed again, then closed her eyes. 'You are a natural."
I finally got the new diaper on and wrapped Noah in his blanket again and I picked him up and walked around the room.
'You are lucky your mom loves me," I whispered to Noah. 'Or I would make you change your own diaper."
He yawned and closed his eyes.
I looked down at him, he is so small and so perfect.
'I never thought I would be this guy," I say softly. 'But I like it."
I glanced at Jane again, she was watching me through half-closed eyes.
'I love you," I whispered.
She smiled, 'I know."
Jane POV
We finally came home from the hospital. I sat quietly in the passenger seat, and held a soft blanket over my lap. My body still aches, but my heart felt full. The babies were in their twin carriers in the backseat.
Hades parked the car and got out quickly. He opened my door with a wide smile.
'We made it," he said softly.
I nodded, holding back tears. 'We are home."
Hades gently lifted both baby carriers from the back seat, one in each hand. He walked carefully, like he was holding treasure and I followed behind, slower, taking each step with care.
When we stepped inside, I froze.
The house looked different. It was warm and bright and the lights were soft, there were balloons tied to the staircase railing, and a huge banner stretched across the living room wall. It said in bold gold letters:
'Welcome Home, Baby Angels!"
My eyes widened and I looked around.
Emily ran out from the kitchen wearing a pink apron with cartoon babies on it.
'Surprise!" she shouted, waving both hands in the air.
I stood in shock. 'Emily… what… what is this?"
She hurried over and hugged me gently. 'It's brunch! Just a small welcome for the babies and for you. You are a mom now, Jane!"
'I don't even know what to say," I whispered. My throat felt tight.
'You don't have to say anything," she grinned. 'Just come inside and sit. You need to rest."
Hades places the baby carriers on the couch gently. He turned to Emily with a smirk. 'You said ‘small' brunch. This looks like a royal feast."
Emily shrugged, 'I got excited."
I look around again. There was a long table set up near the dining room. Mini sandwiches, muffins, tiny pancakes, sliced fruits shaped like stars. And in the middle of it all, a two-layer cake with soft pink and blue icing. It says:
'Welcome Home, Little Miracles."
Tears sprung to my eyes. 'It is beautiful"
Emily gently grabbed my hand. 'Let's get you comfortable."
I sat on the soft armchair near the babies. Hades brought over a cushion and slid it behind my back. 'Better?"
'Much better," I smiled. 'Thank you."
Ava arrives next, dressed in a peach blouse and white pants, holding a soft gray gift bag. Behind her is Rita, wearing a green dress, beaming with pride.
'Congratulations, Mama Jane," Ava says warmly.
Rita held up the gift bag. 'I got you a set of custom onesies! One says ‘CEO in training,' and the other says ‘Future Lawyer.'"
I laughed. 'That's perfect. You two didn't have to bring anything."
Ava hugged me lightly. 'Of course we did. We love you." I blinked quickly and tried to keep from crying again.
Rita leaned over to look at the babies.
'Wow. So tiny and so perfect."
'Want to hold one?" I asked.
Rita shook her head. 'I am scared I will break her."
'You won't," I said with a smile. 'Just support her head."
Hades came over with a small plate. 'Jane, Emily made you mini cinnamon rolls."
I looked up, heart swelling. 'You remembered."
'Of course," he said, knelt beside me. 'Eat. You need energy."
He fed me one bite. It was warm, sweet, and soft.
'Mmm. So good."
He smiles. 'Told you."
Emily clapped her hands. 'Okay, time for presents!"
Everyone gathered in the living room and Emily brought over wrapped boxes and colorful bags.
We took our time and I unwrapped a handmade baby blanket from Ava, a set of tiny shoes from Emily, and a photo album from Rita that says: 'The First Year of Forever."
'I love this," I said, and ran my hand over the cover.
'It has space for milestones, pictures, and notes," Rita explained.
