Jane's POV
I could not believe my eyes.
Emily was standing right in front of my house.
How dare she?
After everything she did to me, after the pain she caused… she still had the guts to show up at my gate.
I was very angry.
I didn't even let her speak. I slammed the door hard and walked back inside.
My heart was beating fast. I was boiling inside.
I could not calm down.
I went to my living room and sat down. But I couldn't stop thinking about it.
*What is she trying to do? What does she want now?*
I picked up the remote and turned on the CCTV camera.
I looked at the screen and saw her lying down on the floor outside my gate.
She didn't move. She just lay there.
I shook my head.
'She will leave soon," I said to myself.
But hours passed.
It was late at night now. I checked again. She was still there.
Her body was curled up. It was cold outside.
Still, I didn't care.
'She will be gone by morning," I told myself.
But when the sun came up and I checked again, she was still there.
Lying in the same spot.
Her clothes were dusty. Her hair was messy.
Something in me started to soften.
I didn't understand why.
After all, she betrayed me. She broke my trust.
But when I saw her face on the camera, I felt pity.
I sighed.
I stood up, put on my robe, and went outside.
I walked to the gate.
When I opened it, she looked up.
Her eyes were tired. Her face was swollen from crying.
'Get up," I said.
She slowly stood, then fell again and started crying hard.
'I betrayed you, Jane," she said. 'I don't deserve to be forgiven. Please… take me to the police. Let them lock me up. I deserve it."
Her voice broke.
I looked at her. She really looked miserable.
I felt my chest grow heavy.
I took a deep breath.
'It's fine," I said softly. 'I felt betrayed. But I have forgiven you."
She looked up at me, shocked.
'I… I don't understand," she said.
I nodded.
'Your actions gave me something I didn't expect," I said. 'A child. I'm pregnant, Emily."
Her eyes opened wide. She stood still for a second, then jumped and hugged me tight.
'That's the best news I've heard in a long time!" she cried.
She cried even more.
'I missed our friendship," she said. 'I miss you, Jane. Every single day."
I didn't say anything.
I just stood there and let her cry.
Because deep down… maybe I missed her too.
Jane POV
I woke up that morning feeling peace. Real peace. The kind I had not felt in a long time. For the first time in many months, my chest felt light. My heart was not heavy anymore. Emily was sleeping in the guest room. After everything that happened, I had forgiven her. And now, I felt like a burden had been lifted off my shoulder.
She told me she had nothing left. No money, no job, nowhere to go. My heart broke a little when I heard that. She was my best friend once, my sister. And yes, she betrayed me, but I believed her when she said she was sorry. I saw it in her eyes. I heard it in her voice. I could feel her pain. And I could feel her regret.
I picked up my phone and called my bank. I told them to unfreeze Emily's account. It was time. She had suffered enough. I also called one of my old friends who ran a good company. I asked him if he had a job for her. A good one. He said yes. I smiled and thanked him.
Then I knocked on her door. She opened it slowly, her eyes swollen. I told her the good news. Her account was free. She could take money again. I also told her about the job offer. At first, she didn't believe me. She looked at me like I was joking. But I was not. I was serious.
She started crying again. She said, "Thank you, Jane. Thank you for giving me a second chance."
I hugged her. "Just make good use of it," I said.
Later that day, I helped her find a small apartment. It was clean, quiet, and safe. She moved in the next day. I felt happy. I felt at peace. I felt like I had done the right thing. Forgiveness is hard, but I learned that it brings peace.
Now, I didn't have any problems with anyone. Not even Raheem, who was now far away and doing his own thing. Not the secretary, who had vanished. Not Emily, who was now back in my life. I had peace with everyone.
Except one person.
Nathan.
I could never forgive him.
He tried to kill my baby. My sweet baby. My joy. My light. He tried to end an innocent life that had not even seen the world. That was evil. That was wicked. And no matter how much I tried, I knew I could never forgive that.
Some sins are just too dark.
Few days later, it was night. I was asleep. My phone rang. It was the landline. I picked it up. It was the head of security.
"Ma, someone is at the security post. He says he wants to see you."
I frowned and sat up. "Who is it?"
"He said his name is Hades. He brought flowers."
I didn't even answer. I dropped the call and walked straight to the security screen in my room. I clicked the camera feed for the gate.
There he was.
Hades.
Standing outside, holding a bouquet of white flowers.
My heart skipped, then turned cold.
What was he doing here?
I watched him for a moment. He looked calm. He was dressed simply. But I could see the look in his eyes. He looked sad. Maybe sorry.
I called the security post again.
"Let him in."
"Yes ma."
I stood by the front door, arms crossed. When he came close, I opened the door slightly. Just enough to see his face. I didn't smile. I didn't even greet him.
"What do you want?" I asked.
He smiled a little and held up the flowers. "I just wanted to say hi. And to give you these."
I didn't take the flowers.
"Stop doing this," I said. "Stop coming here. Stop calling. Stop sending messages. I don't want this."
He opened his mouth to speak, but I raised my hand.
"No. Don't talk. I released you because of the baby. That's all. Not because I care. Not because I want you back."
He looked hurt. But I didn't care.
"I don't want you in my baby's life. I don't want you in my life. Not now. Not ever."
Then I slammed the door.
