Jane's POV
The moment Tom ended the call, I didn't waste time.
I picked up my phone and dialed the number of the Commissioner of Police. My hand shook a little, but my voice was steady.
'Hello, Commissioner," I said as soon as he picked up. 'This is Jane Grande."
'Miss Grande," he responded quickly. 'How can I help you?"
'I need your full attention on a very serious matter," I said. 'I was poisoned at a youth conference event. I have reasons to believe it was orchestrated by Nathan my ex-husband."
There was silence for a few seconds on the other end.
'Do you have evidence, ma'am?" he asked.
'I have sent my lead investigator, Tom, to your office," I said. 'He is bringing the documents, conference trace, and all findings. I want you to take immediate action."
'Yes ma'am," he said. 'We will begin the investigation right away."
I hung up and immediately called Ava, my lawyer.
'Ava, it is Jane," I said as soon as she answered.
'What is wrong?" she asked. 'I heard you collapsed during a speech!"
'Yes, I was poisoned," I replied. 'But I am stable now. The baby is okay."
'Oh my God, Jane!"
'I need you to prepare a strong case," I cut her off.
'We traced the conference setup and poison back to Nathan. I want you ready. If he is found guilty, I want him behind bars for the rest of his life."
'Understood," Ava said without hesitation. 'Send me all the evidence Tom has. I will be ready."
I ended the call and placed the phone beside me.
Just then, I noticed my father sitting in the chair beside my hospital bed, his face was tight and his hands were clenched and he looked like a volcano about to erupt.
He shook his head slowly and said, 'It is the same fool you wasted your youth marrying. That same bastard is now trying to kill you."
His voice rose as he spoke. 'I told you back then that Nathan was no good! But you refused to listen."
I stared at him quietly.
'If you had just listened to me! if you had married Hades, none of this would be happening!" he shouted. 'Hades had power, Hades had vision and even now that he is in jail, his name still rings in every boardroom."
'Dad," I said, warning him.
But he didn't stop.
'You would have been untouchable with Hades beside you. Your empire would be ten times bigger. And Nathan, Nathan would never have had the guts to try and hurt you!"
'Dad!" I snapped. 'Stop! Stop bringing up Hades!"
He blinked, surprised by my sudden anger.
I glared at him. 'That man drugged me, he raped me and he humiliated me and now you are still telling me I should have married him?"
My chest rose and fell.
'I already have enough to deal with," I said through gritted teeth. 'Don't make me regret letting you visit."
There was a heavy silence.
My father looked away. Then slowly, he nodded. 'I am sorry, Jane. I didn't mean to hurt you."
I turned my head toward the window.
'I just…" he continued, softer now. 'I hate seeing you like this. You're my only child. I built my whole world around you. When I see you in danger like this, I lose my mind."
His words touched me, even though I didn't look at him.
'I promise," he said. 'If Nathan is guilty, if he truly tried to kill you, I will personally make sure he ends up behind bars."

Nathan's POV
I paced around my bedroom like a madman.
The TV was on, but I was not watching. My eyes were glued to my phone. Every few minutes, I refreshed the news page, but there was still nothing.
No headline says 'Jane Grande loses a baby"
Only the same repeated line, 'Business tycoon Jane Grande remained under treatment after collapsing at a youth event. Sources confirm she is stable."
I threw the phone onto the bed. 'Damn it!"
George was sitting on the edge of the bed, calm like he was not even involved in this. That was what annoys me the most, his stupid calmness.
Nessa stood near the door and hugged her arms across her chest like she was freezing and her face was pale. She had not said a word since morning.
I stopped in front of her.
'Are you sure you added it?" I shouted.
Her eyes widened. 'What?"
'The second liquid!" I screamed. 'The potent! The one I gave you in the tiny black bottle. Did you add it into the drink before it got served?"
Nessa stammers, 'Y-Yes… I did exactly what you told me. I used gloves. I wore a mask. I opened the bottle carefully. I poured it inside and stirred it like you said. I swear!"
'You swear?" I yelled. 'Then why the hell they hell haven't we heard anything about the baby? Why is the baby still alive?"
George sighs. 'Relax, Nate. You are shouting too much."
I turned to him. 'Don't tell me to relax!"
'She could still have complications," George said and tried to reason. 'Maybe they just haven't said anything yet. You know Jane. She doesn't show weakness to the media. She could be in pain right now."
I clenched my fists. 'That poison was meant to kill the baby quietly, not make her ‘collapse' and recover! She should be done by now."
George got up and put a hand on my shoulder. 'Look, even if she was okay for now, we can still get close enough to finish what we started."
I gave him a sharp look.
He nodded. 'Visit her."
'What?"
'Go visit her," he said again. 'You are her ex-husband. She doesn't suspect you, right? So go there, pretend you are worried, Pretend you care and then you will get close. You can check what was going on. Maybe she was hiding something."
I stared at him for a moment.
It was not a bad plan.
'Fine," I said. 'But if I found out she was keeping that baby, I would end it myself."
We are still talking when we heard it
A beep.
A soft knock on the door and then a pause and then another knock.
George walked to the door slowly and peeked through the peephole, then opened it halfway.
A man stood there in a plain brown jacket and jeans. He didn't look like much, until he flashes a badge.
'Good evening," the man said calmly. 'I am from the city police. I am here for Mr. Nathan. He is needed at the station."
George frowned. 'Station? What for?"
I walked toward the door. 'What the hell is this about?"
The man didn't flinch. 'Please, sir. Just come with us. We have some questions for you regarding the incident at the youth conference."
My heart skipped and George tried to shut the door, but it was too late.
'Woo woo woo!"
The sound of police sirens cut through the street like thunder, blue and red lights flash through the windows and I ran to the curtains and pulled them aside.
Three police vans, Cops jumped down with rifles and vests. They were surrounding the whole house like I was some drug dealer.
'What the hell is this?" I shouted. 'You can't come into my house like this!"
The plainclothes officer stepped inside fully now, behind him, uniformed police rushed in.
'You are under arrest, Mr. Nathan for attempted murder," the officer said, and pulled out handcuffs on.
'What?" I screamed. 'Murder? Are you crazy?!"
'You will have the chance to speak at the station," he said coldly.
Two cops grab George and twist his arms behind his back and he yelled, 'Hey! I didn't do anything!"
Another cop grabs Nessa. She was trembling now, crying. 'Please! Please, I was just following orders!"
'I want my lawyer!" I screamed as they pulled my hands behind me. 'You don't have any right to arrest me without proof!"
'We have enough evidence for now," the officer says. 'We will see what else turns up in the interrogation."
The cuffs snap shut around my wrists.
I felt like the air had been knocked out of me and they pushed us out of the house, one by one.
