Jane's POV
I relaxed in the living room leather chair. I wouldn't stop thinking about who could be behind all these.
'Doorbell rings." I heightened my gaze when I heard the sound. ‘The people I called must definitely be around.'
I got on my feet and I went to open the door. Upon opening, it was the lawyer. 'Good day, Miss Jane." He greeted me with a half-smile.
But I maintained a straight face because I was on the verge of losing my company. 'Good day. Come in." I moved sideways and he came in. I shut the door and the both of us went into the living room.
I exhaled intensely. 'Lawyer, there is a big problem." I alerted him with a worried voice. He set his gaze on me with shock on his face. 'What is the problem?" He asked as his face shrank.
'I am on the verge of losing my company because of an alleged company fraud." I briefed.
His face was mixed with confusion. 'I don't understand. What are you getting at?" He was curious to know what was happening.
'I was arrested for fraud and the police are threatening to close my company down." I explained in detail to him.
He grunted with displeasure. 'Were you really involved in a fraud?" He asked me.
I adjusted myself on the chair for more convenience. 'No, It's obvious I was framed. How do I get out of this mess?" My emotions throbbed when I spoke to the lawyer.
'Framed?! Do you have any evidence backing this up?" He asked me.
My eyes enlarged and deep pressure pressed my heart. 'I do not have any evidence to back this up. Everything happened very fast." I replied to him.
'Miss Jane, that is where the problem is. As long as there is no evidence backing that you didn't do it. You will be imprisoned for this offense and your company will be confiscated. The only way to get out of this mess is to start a proper investigation." He explained in detail.
'Okay."
'After that, you can now call me to defend you if the case is charged to the court of law." He quickly added that after my response.
'Okay. Thank you for coming. I am grateful."
Just as I was about to discharge him, the doorbell rang aloud. 'That must be the police for the investigation." I echoed in a loud voice.
'That is nice. Tell him to be quick with investigation. You don't have all the time in the world." He expressed slowly.
'Okay." When I opened the door, there he was.
'Good day, ma." He greeted me with a straight face while that lawyer went on his way.
'Come in. I have been waiting for your arrival." I said, letting him inside the house.
'I had to rush here after the call. You sound urgent on the phone. What's the problem?" He arched his eyebrows when he asked me that question.
'Officer, I was charged for committing fraud and I didn't do it." I spoke sharply.
He was silent for a second. 'Are you insinuating that you were charged for a crime you didn't commit?"
'Yes. The police threatened to confiscate my company."
'Do you have any evidence supporting the claim that you didn't do it?" He asked with a glare at my face.
I sighed. 'That is why you are here - to help me get the evidence I need."
His face shrank. 'Tell me what you need me to do." He arched his eyebrows and his ears were all opened.
'I need you to properly investigate who framed me up."
'Was there any evidence backing the frame up?" He asked.
'Yes. It was a document I signed a few days ago. I wasn't aware that it was for fraud." I explained with innocence.
'Miss Jane, this will be a very difficult case. Who are those people that brought the document? Did you by chance know any of them?" His eyes gleamed thin as he pried closely into the matter.
'Not at all. I receive visitors daily and I don't know anything about them. I thought they were just any other visitors." I explained to him.
'Do you still have a copy of the document you signed with them?" He asked further.
'Yes. But it's not with me. It's actually in the company." I replied to him.
'Okay. In that case, can we go to your company?"
'Of course. As long as it is going to help reveal those that are involved in this overall."
'Don't worry. I've got your back." After his response, both of us stood up and we headed for my company using my car.
It took about ten minutes before we arrived there. I stepped down from my car and the both of us headed into the company.
My secretary approached me. 'You are welcome, Miss Jane. I thought you said you won't show up in the office today."
'I changed my mind. Is there anything wrong with that?" My tone was harsh.
'I am sorry." She apologized and stayed back. The police and I got into my office.
'Please, sit down."
As soon as I offered him a place to sit, I started looking for the document in my drawer. But to my surprise, I couldn't find it there. ‘Where could I have kept it?' I thought in my head and I decided to check other areas in the office.
After searching through the office over and over again, I couldn't find it. I was thrown off balance. I had to call my secretary.
'Hello, I need you in my office now!" I ordered aggressively immediately when she picked up the call.
'Is anything the problem?" The police officer asked me.
'It's nothing to be worried about at the moment." After my response, he held his peace.
My secretary rushed into my office with fear. 'I am here, ma." She alerted me.
'The document I signed with the company that offered sixty million dollars. Where is it?" I asked her.
'You instructed me to keep it with me. I will get it for you right away." She replied to me hurriedly.
'Okay. Do that quickly." After my words, she left my presence.
