Jane's POV
'What?!" My body trembled with palpitations very obvious, my eyes widened in shock and my phone fell, crashing against the ground. My heart squirms as I see the blurred image of how my cousin was killed.
Before me was actually a video footage. My eyes gleaned thin as I pressed the video to play.
The police officer, known by the name Officer Mills, brought food into the police custody and handed it over to the deceased.
‘One of your family members brought food." The officer said, placing the food in front of him. Her heart was filled with deceit and her lips were publishing lies.
The deceased couldn't see through this. He had been famished and giving him food was good news.
He collected it and ate it without giving it a second thought. Overnight, he died from food poisoning.
After watching the video evidence, my jaw dropped in shock, because I knew that the officer was in charge of Ray's case. ‘Who sent her to do this?' I queried within me. I grasp my phone from the ground… Thanks to the creator it didn't shatter.
I put a call through to General Gaza. 'Hello, I just went through the evidence you sent to me." I explained.
'Good. Meet me at O2 port 12, downtown. I will be waiting." After saying that, he ended the call.
I grunted silently with thoughts that kept going through my mind. I went back to the evidence sent and I watched it again and again.
‘This is bad of the police officers. I didn't know they were corrupted to this extent.' I bit off my fingernails. While my heart ran many miles per seconds.
My phone rang and I realized it was a call from Hades. ‘Gosh! What does he want?' My face turned pale and my lips curled in anger.
'Hello, what is it?" My voice rang out violently.
'Congratulations on your latest win, I can see that you are indeed doing well without us involved." He expressed those words to me.
But my eyes were dull to hear those words rattling out of his mouth. 'I am not in the mood for all these." And before he could speak further, I ended the call without further consideration.
As I hit my leg against the ground in wild thoughts, my secretary walked into my office. 'You have a visitor. Should I let him in?" She asked me. Her eyes ran through my skin. But my eyes were dismissive even though I tried to hide the hurt within me.
She glared at me. Her eyes pining mine to the wall. Her lips curled with a smile and my emotions went unnoticed.
I puffed out some breaths from my nostrils… ‘Am I good to go?' My heart was heavy as I queried myself. But I realized I wasn't ready to go.
'Ma'am?" She arched her eyebrows as she peered into my eyes. I snapped out of the thoughts but the emotions were throbbing.
'I can't see anyone for now and I am leaving my work place for home very soon. Tell him to come some other time." After telling that…
'Okay." She didn't bother to ask further questions and she just took her leave.
I puffed some heavy breath from my nostrils and rose to my feet after being weighed down with a thousand thoughts. I packed my properties together and locked everything as I usually do in my office. I stepped outside after a while.
Getting to my car, my driver glared at me. 'Where do you want to go, ma'am?" He asked sharply. He had thought I was going somewhere.
'Take me home!" I declared, while he opened the door. I stepped into the car and relaxed backwards.
My disturbed driver paid attention to me for a while as he drove… 'Ma! Are you okay?" He asked me, his voice throbbed with emotion.
I failed to reply to him because my heart weighed down in thoughts. I didn't hear his voice and at the moment, it was the voice in my head I could hear.
‘Ma'am?' He called me several times, but his voice was blur. He checked me through the mirror and he realized my eyes was closed.
‘Did she sleep?' He thought in his head with panic settling in his mind.
'Miss Jane!" He called so loud that my full ears became as sharp as two edged daggers.
I snapped back to reality as my eyes ran through the environment. 'What is it?" I snapped at him, because he just tampered with my sleep.
'I am sorry to bother you. Is everything alright? You've been acting very dull." My emotions didn't go unnoticed as he had spoken.
I grunted with the heaviness in my heart. My driver wasn't the right person to share my heartfelt emotions with but I find him in the right place at the moment.
I felt if I didn't share it, I was going to explode.
'I found out my deceased cousin was killed by the police officer assigned to the case." I detailed as tears rushed down my eyes. Even though I tried to hold it, I had to quickly clean my eyes.
'I am sorry about that. Don't you think heading to a bar to clear your head would be the best?" He advised me innocently.
At that moment, I wanted to listen to him. But memories of what happened in the past came throbbing. It reminded me of the exact thing I did that led to making it go viral.
I can't make such mistakes again. As the decision was pressing, he asked…
'Should I take you there?"
'No. Just take me home." I replied with a rigid voice and he respected my decision.
'Okay." He drove ahead and it took a few minutes before we later went home.
On getting home, I stepped out of my car and I walked briskly into my house. I laid on the bed while I soaked my bed in tears.
That was how I slept off. Many hours later, I opened my eyes and it was evening.
'Gosh! I hope I am not late in meeting up with General Gaze." I mumbled to myself and quickly picked up my phone to check my time.
Upon checking the time, I realised I had five minutes left and I also had a missed call. I navigated to check only to realize it was General Gaza.
‘Maybe he called to confirm my availability.' As the thought pressed hard on my heart, I placed a call across to him and he picked like he had been expecting it.
'Hello, I am sorry I missed your call."
'It's okay. I want to ask if you are still very much available this evening?" He asked me.
'Of course. I am on my way already."
'Okay. Meet you there." General Gaza ended the call.
I rushed into the bathroom and freshened up very quickly. I put on a good fragrance. Before highlighting. Upon getting outside, my driver was happy to see me.
'I hope you are feeling much better?" He asked at once.
'I am going to O2 port 12 downtown." That was my reply to him.
'Okay." He got the idea that I wasn't interested in sharing the information with him. He opened the door of the car and I stepped into it.
He started the engine at once.
