Veronica's POV
Today was the first time my instincts betrayed me. I let my desperation take the best part of me and now, I was in a deep mess I didn't know I would get out of.
My normal body temperature went abnormally hot. I couldn't stay back at the office anymore. I need to set myself free from this moment. I crawled out of my office like an owl… ‘A bar will free me from this pain.' My heart echoed, looking for a means to hide from the bizarre moment I created for myself.
I got to my car and started the engine. I drove slowly along the road but my heart wasn't on the road. It constantly echoed, ‘Debt!' At every interval.
'Siren blair!" The loud sound of sirens and a police officer following me with their car called my attention.
I looked at my rear mirror and I saw them speeding towards me. ‘Why is the police after me?' Just as I gave that a thought, I realized the moment I was in.
I had pressed down the throttle for a long time and now, my car had gone beyond the regular speed. 'Gosh!" I hit my hand on my staring in frustration. I kept creating a mess for myself.
I had to stop my car while I waited for the police to meet me.
I calmly sat within my car when the police officer knocked on my windscreen.
With an exhale, I turned down the glass and I looked through the opened window. 'What is it, officer?" I asked.
'I am sorry I had to stop you. You were speeding." He detailed while he gazed at my body gestures.
'I am very sorry, officer. I am going through a lot at the moment and I didn't know I was on speed." I explained myself.
'Come out from your car!" He ordered with a fierce voice.
I wondered why? But I stepped down from my car.
'You will have to pass the drug test. I need to be sure you ain't on hard drugs." He said, glaring at my face like an addict.
'Okay." I wanted him to do what he intended to do and just let me go. I wasn't in the mood for this stress he was making me go through.
'How many fingers is this?" He asked, putting out four fingers and I answered correctly. He did several other tests.
'You are liquor free. Can I see your driver's license?" He asked.
I got tired of him but I must be as polite as I could to avoid getting myself in a greater mess. I brought out my driver's license from the car and I gave it to him.
He took some minutes to look at it. He returned it to me. 'Be careful of your speed next time. And if you are weighted in thoughts, try considering seeing a therapy. You can go." He said and turned his back to go back to his car.
'Thank you." I appreciated him and stepped inside my car. ‘Wonder why these officers wouldn't just mind their business?' I grunted with displeasure. I started my car and drove all through to a popular bar that was in town.
I stepped down from my car and just walked calmly into the bar.
Taking a seat, the bar man came to attend to me. 'What do you want?" He asked me.
'Give me two bottles of whisky." I ordered.
The bar man left my side. I lowered my head in thoughts where I was seated. My bothered mind got a hang that my cousin was going to ruin my company.
I remained silent and soon, the bar man brought this whiskey with the cup.
I started drinking heavily. Making sure each shot I took got a hold of my thoughts. While I continued drinking, my eyes started getting blurry and an excitement settled in my heart.
At one point, all my actions became very slow even though I thought it was very fast and at a point, I passed out.
The next day.
I opened my eyes after a very long time of sleep. I felt my head banging really hard as my eyes settled around the environment that I was.
'What is this place?" I muttered aloud while I gazed at the unfamiliar environment. I wanted to stand up, but I was lightweight and my body was still weak.
With each passing breath, I wondered about how I would get here. Just as my thoughts were transparent, I managed to step down from the bed. I tried finding my way out of the room only for me to find the cloth I put on yesterday littered on the ground.
I was taken aback and I had to check myself. I realized someone has changed my clothes. ‘I hope it isn't a man.' I soliloquised with shallow regret. And I hoped that individual who saved me hadn't taken advantage of me. I stepped out of the room and as I wandered around, I came across the maid working in the big mansion.
'Miss Jane, you are finally awake. How are you feeling?" She was friendly while she waited for my response.
'What is this place?" I asked, glinting my eyes across her body.
'Oh, this is Mr Hades' residence. He found you drunk at the bar yesterday. He said he can't leave you to spend your night there and he brought you home." She detailed.
My eyes rolled within my eye socket … ‘Hades.' I grunted with displeasure, and wondered why he wouldn't leave me. My mind was at peace even though I was scared he might have taken advantage of me.
'Can I see him?" I asked her.
But she exhaled with dissatisfaction. 'You can't see him. Your body reeks of alcohol." She explained.
I felt out of place by her words but I understood everything she said. ‘I will just go and freshen up.' I indicated and turned back… saving myself from embarrassment.
