Rey helped Ryan drag a medium-sized suitcase on his left side.
The airport was quite busy that afternoon, as the man helped his father to carry the suitcase, which contained his parents' belongings during their stay in Munich.
Rey had requested that the two of them stay longer so that they could have a picnic or just spend time sightseeing, but Patricia had to decline because as a prominent lady in Leipzig, she had to attend several important events in the next few days.
So there the four of them were that afternoon. Ryan, his wife Patricia, Rey, and Luana the pregnant daughter-in-law of the successor to the famous Lueic clan. Mingling with the visitors and passengers about to board the plane, Ryan and Patricia had decided to return to Leipzig that afternoon, after spending a few days at the home of their only son.
Thankfully the business that had prompted their arrival had been resolved, as it seemed that neither Madam Collins nor Beatrice had any intention of prolonging it. After all, as we all know, the beginning of the story and the problems that arose were indeed caused by Beatrice's wrong choice.
And now, it seemed that everything had been resolved in just the right proportion.
Stopping his steps almost simultaneously right in front of the departure door, Rey placed the suitcase he had been holding right next to his father. Facing each other, the four good-hearted people now exchanged glances.
"Make sure you eat well, Luana dear." Patricia spread her arms as she came forward to hug her daughter-in-law tightly. "Don't forget to be happy, because the most important thing for a fetus is to see and feel its mother's happiness."
Luana returned Patricia's embrace-the mother-in-law she had come to think of as her own mother. The warmth and affection that Patricia poured out on her was something she had never imagined before, because Luana didn't even know how to love her parents. And Patricia, came at the right time with all the love she could muster. No hesitation, no strings attached. Typical of a mother's love.
"Okay, Mom," Luana whispered with her chin resting on her mother-in-law's shoulder. "Mom, make sure you stay healthy there."
Patricia loosened the embrace, but kept her hands intertwined with Luana's. "Remember what I told you when we talked a lot yesterday, Luana," she whispered with a twinkle in her eye. "Tell Rey whatever you need, and involve him in everything during your pregnancy. Don't be shy, okay?"
Luana now felt that Rey had inherited her gentle and kind demeanor from Patricia. The middle-aged woman's radiance had not dimmed at all, as if she had always been able to be the safest shelter for her children.
"Yes, Mother." Luana smiled back. "I will remember everything, without exception."
If the two women of different ages talked back and forth, Rey and Ryan chose to smile at each other. Men do lack words, don't they? But the gaze Ryan directed at his son now implied something else.
Moving two steps, Rey approached his father.
"Thank you, Dad," he whispered with his body leaning to the side. "Thanks, Dad."
Ryan smiled with satisfaction when he heard how his adult son repeated how he had called him as a child. Dad.
"You'll be a wonderful husband and father, Rey," Ryan whispered back. "Always trust your wife, be someone she can count on. Then you'll see Luana in a few years like your mom is now. Charming, and happy."
Rey nodded his head, agreeing with what his father had just said. During their visit in Munich, Rey spent quite a lot of time with his father while Patricia chose to exchange stories with Luana. And that, made the two Lueic men open up to each other quite a lot.
Rey heard in detail how his father's journey with his mother, which Ryan had never told at all before. And after hearing that, Rey is now even more convinced that he can make Luana happy. That the relationship between his caste and his wife is not the first thing in Lueic's big family, and there is clear evidence that it is really not a stumbling block to happiness.
Because his parents, are proven proof. Authentic and real.
"Come on, honey. We have to go in." Ryan didn't mean to interrupt his wife and daughter-in-law who were still making small talk, but the clock on his wrist indicated that their flight was about to arrive.
"Alright then." Patricia hugged Luana once more. "Take care of yourself, Luana. And if you want to give birth in Leipzig, I'll be very happy to wait for you to come."
Luana nodded, a smile still on her beautiful face. The afternoon breeze made the hem of her knee-length dress move gently, as she and Patricia embraced.
"I'll consider it, Mom," Luana whispered again. "See you soon."
Now moving to her husband's side, Patricia hugged Rey for a few moments. Typical of an ideal mother-in-law who is too worried about her daughter-in-law's first pregnancy, Patricia repeated several messages for her son to take good care of Luana.
Like,
"Make sure he eats, Rey. Make sure she's happy. Don't make her sad. Come home if she asks. Don't overwork, and blah blah blah...." which finally made Rey just laugh softly.
"Alright, Mom. I will do everything," Rey responded positively. He knew his mother just loved Luana very much. "Take care of yourself and don't get too tired for sorority business."
Patricia patted her son's chest briefly, before nodding her head. Turning to her waiting husband, she now stood side by side with Luana and Rey.
"See you soon." Ryan widened his smile, ready to take over his suitcase.
"Enjoy your trip," Luana replied, already in her husband's arms.
"Call me when you get there, Dad," Rey also replied.
Until finally the great Mr. and Mrs. Lueic took a step to slowly turn their bodies, just before stepping through the departure gate. Two officers in hats greeted the two, as Ryan showed his cellphone to make sure they had flight tickets.
Waving at their parents who were walking away, Rey now turned to Luana who was still staring intently ahead. Letting Patricia go turned out to be this difficult.
It wasn't until the silhouettes of Patricia and Ryan disappeared from view that Luana turned to look at her husband. "Are we going home?"
Rey shook his head faintly. "I haven't told you yet, honey. But I have arranged an appointment with one of the best gynecologists in Munich. We'll check your pregnancy after this, okay?"
Luana's eyes lit up, because she again did not expect that Rey had prepared that for her. She had not seen a doctor at all, and they were going to do this now. Of course she wanted to, without refusal.
"I didn't expect you to prepare everything," Luana said after both of them had stepped from where they were standing earlier, now heading towards the car park on the right wing of the airport. "You're really full of surprises, Rey."
Rey could be proud of himself, because he was.
"I'm going to the restroom first." Luana slowed her pace when she saw the sign pointing to the restroom. "Wait a moment."
Rey nodded faintly, then let Luana turn the corner to enter the women's restroom.
Luana seemed to disappear from his sight, walking down the hallway and pushing the door to enter the restroom. But her push almost made her fall, because someone also pulled the door from the inside.
Exactly, which may also have been arranged by the universe.
"Sorry," Luana said as she straightened her head.
But then her body froze in place, because the person in front of her was also looking at her intently.
"Miss Beatrice?"
