Mrs. Lueic's legs began to go numb.
Staying in the same position for several dozen minutes, in fact, made Luana's legs begin to feel numb, albeit slowly.
Trying to stay seated without moving so as not to disturb Rey who was asleep, Luana repeatedly bit her lip to get rid of the sensation of numbness.
Until one second later she could not resist, then tried to move her legs slowly. The movement that turned out to wake Rey up from his deep sleep, followed by a perfectly widened bead.
Why is Luana on my lap?
That was the first question that came to the nobleman's mind, but he seemed to have no intention of letting Luana down from there.
Raising his head little by little, Rey's eyeballs met Luana's bead then.
"You... Are you awake?" Luana asked haltingly. It was obvious that she was holding something back, indicated by the frown that was clearly printed on her forehead.
"Are you okay?"
Tugging at the corner of her lips, Luana grimaced softly. "My legs are cramped... Both of them."
Hearing the young woman's account, Rey again looked surprised. Blinking as he tried to help Luana move, Rey was thinking of the best way to keep Luana from being in pain.
"Just hold on," Rey whispered.
With a quick movement the man lowered his body, slipping his sturdy arm between Luana's stiff legs.
Rey's touch down there made Luana grimace again, feeling the numbness creeping up her thighs now. With another strange feeling creeping into her chest now.
"Hurts?" Rey turned his head. "Just hold on a little longer."
Luana bit her lip again, just as Rey moved quickly to lift the waitress's petite body into his arms. Moving Luana to sit on the sofa, Rey helped his wife to straighten her legs.
"Still numb?" This time it was Rey who knelt on the floor, with his body positioned perfectly facing Luana.
Luana gently massaged her legs, fighting the numbness with all her might. It was a little painful, but she was fine.
"I'll get the waiter." Rey was just about to get up, but this time Luana's arm reflexively held the man's arm.
Shaking her head, Luana gave a rather subtle refusal.
"I'm fine," she said reassuringly. "It does feel numb, but it doesn't hurt a bit."
Rey exhaled before kneeling back down on the floor. Looking guiltily at Luana, the noble cleared his throat softly.
"I'm sorry that I fell asleep," the man said, sounding sincere. "If I hadn't fallen asleep, you wouldn't be feeling numb like this. Are you sure you're okay?"
Luana nodded quickly, between her hands that were still gently massaging her legs.
"You look very tired, Mr. Rey," she replied. Their eyes met, as Luana spoke up again.
"You should take care of your health," Luana continued. "Working makes you a lot of money, but trust me, a good night's sleep can't be bought with any amount of money."
Rey was silent as he heard Luana say this, silently agreeing with what his wife had just said. He is indeed someone who is a workaholic, even tends to be a perfectionist.
It was not uncommon for Rey to drown in a pile of work until he forgot about time, even forgetting to provide the best intake for his body that was forced to work hard.
And he had certainly heard a lot of similar advice like this before, but somehow Luana's words this time sounded different. It didn't sound like advice, but more like a request.
"Do you want me to do less work?" the man asked with his gaze still fixed. "If you ask, then I will."
Luana nodded quickly, though Rey's question sounded double-meaning.
"Of course," Luana said without blinking. "You're already rich anyway, there's no need to sacrifice your health for the sake of accumulating coffers."
The numbness was completely gone by the time Luana lowered her feet slowly to the floor. She was already feeling much better, and was thankful that she hadn't caused a scene just because of her numb feet.
Luana thought the conversation was over, but Rey didn't seem to agree. Because now the man was heard speaking.
"I have to work hard to make you comfortable," Rey said this time. The sentence caught Luana's attention, forcing her to look back at Rey who was still kneeling on the floor.
Paying close attention to Rey, Luana chose to remain silent for a few seconds.
"As Mrs. Lueic, I don't want you to lack anything," Rey continued. The man's hand rested on her thigh, as Luana involuntarily gaped and blinked.
"Sir, I don't--"
"I know," Rey said quickly.
Casting his gaze around the room, Rey was checking and making sure that there was no one else but them there.
"I know this is only temporary," the nobleman said again. "But I owe you a great deal, and I hope you will make use of all the facilities I will provide."
Luana still didn't understand where Rey was going with this. The man before her had just woken up from sleep, but why did he sound so serious?
"Accept all that I give you," the man repeated. "Enjoy your time as Mrs. Lueic, even if you choose to... leave. Leave."
There was a note of indecision in Rey's voice just now, though the man didn't know if Luana could detect it or not.
There was silence between the two as they struggled with their own thoughts, until Luana spoke first this time.
"Uhm, alright," she replied hesitantly. "What should I accept from you?"
Rey breathed a sigh of relief, as he moved to get up and take a seat right next to Luana.
Pulling something out of his pants pocket, Rey held up a black card with golden ink written on it. Handing the card to Luana, Rey at once made his point.
"This is your card, so you can use it however you want," the man said. "Use it to shop, have fun, or do whatever. This card still has a limit of about 500,000 euros, so spend it."
Luana was shocked when she heard the amount mentioned by Rey, because she had never imagined that much money. Let alone five hundred thousand euros, her five-year salary was not even fifty thousand euros.
Although hesitant, Luana finally nodded her head. She didn't know what to use the card for, but she might as well accept it to get this conversation over with.
"Alright," Luana finally said. "I'll accept this, thank you."
Rey had smiled slightly, hoping that Luana would really enjoy all the things like other nobles. He did not know if Luana already had so much wealth that she did not ask at all, or if it was because she did not want to get too involved with him.
But Rey instead wanted to get them involved as much as possible, although his reasons for doing so were still vague.
"I'm glad you finally understand," Rey greeted happily. "Ah, yes, and one more...."
Luana was still looking at the black card, then turned her head towards Rey. "Yes?"
Rey cleared his throat softly. "I heard you have the business card of Rouletta's friend. Would you like to join the club?"
Luana had almost forgotten about the society, but she remembered she still had the business card Rouletta had given her in Leipzig in a drawer.
"Ah, about that--"
"Do you want to try it?" Rey asked with sparkling eyes. "Having an association will make you known and respected, and you'll have friends to swipe your card with."
Luana sighed again. Her eyeballs rolled, followed by a forced nod. But such was the life of high-level nobles, even though Luana had never thought of becoming one of them.
"Alright," Luana finally said. The woman had a faint smile.
"You can contact her," Rey said. "I'll take you to her tomorrow afternoon, if she can meet you tomorrow. I'll be home early."
And again Luana could only nod faintly. "Okay."
Rey looked even more excited, signaled by a widening smile.
"Then I'll go upstairs first," said Luana. The card was still in her hand, she held it with all her body and soul and fear.
Rey also got up from the sofa. "Okay."
Luana walked first, planning to look up the business card Rouletta had given her the other day. She would probably call after this.
Just as Mrs. Luiec's feet hit the first step, Rey's voice rang out again in the background.
"Luana!"
Reflexively turning her body, Luana looked at Rey who was now standing upright. The man's coat was open, revealing his slightly wrinkled shirt.
"The pin is our wedding date," Rey said in a half-silent tone. His voice echoed in the large living room, as Luana squinted uncomprehendingly.
"Huh?"
Rey took a few steps forward, now getting closer to his wife who somehow looked beautiful even under the circumstances.
"The pin," the man repeated. Because the distance had shortened, Luana could hear Rey clearly.
"The pin is the six digits of our wedding date," the nobleman repeated. "So that you can easily remember it."
