"You found Beatrice?"
Rey realized there was a halting step behind there.
Just as the man's opening sentence hit the air, Luana unconsciously stopped the steps that had just been swaying slowly.
Like hypnotized, the young woman didn't even know what the reason was that made her stop suddenly. It turned out that Beatrice's name in the air had simply distracted her, and sent a signal to her brain to make those long legs stop moving.
'Have they found Beatrice yet?' Luana asked herself. She was so curious, but she was tongue-tied and couldn't make a sound.
Rey also didn't know why his lips were uttering such a sentence, even though Jovi on the other end of the line hadn't said anything at all.
After their conversation tonight, for some reason Rey felt so curious. Curious about what Luana's reaction would be when she learned that Beatrice's whereabouts had been traced.
What the expression on her face would be like, or how that eyes would glow.
Rey reflexively turned around, and the pair met eyes again. But Luana seemed to come to her senses first, as she resumed her steps in a hurry.
Rey's tail watched until the woman entered the room, before his ears caught what Jovi was saying on the other side.
"What do you mean, sir?" Jovi's voice sounded different, but Rey was not focusing on that.
"Nothing," the noble replied quickly. "I'm just digressing, because I have something to make sure of tonight."
Rey had no idea how pounding Jovi's chest was where he stood now. Even the young man was gripping his beer can tightly, wondering if the information about Beatrice he had received last time had leaked into Rey's hearing.
Because he hadn't said anything at all, as the identity of the woman who looked the same could still not be confirmed.
"Huh?" Jovi still didn't understand it seemed.
Rubbing the nape of his neck, Rey turned his head back to look towards the front.
"Don't mind my question," Rey repeated. "What are you calling about?"
His master's words just now still left an all-too-obvious confusion in Jovi's mind, but the man chose not to ask further.
What their master meant by 'confirming something', he did not know.
"Ah, well, sir," Jovi almost forgot what he wanted to say.
And just like that, a report on the company and the state of the mansion was delivered by Jovi, with Rey seemingly listening intently.
The call lasted for several minutes, before Rey and Jovi finally disconnected. Having stayed where he was for a while, now the man turned around and stepped into the room.
Finding Luana's petite body already lying on the bed, Rey unconsciously curved a faint smile.
"I'm glad you feel comfortable there," the man said to himself. "I have wronged you, and this is what I can give you to make amends."
Rey really hoped Luana would laugh, even though the essence of happiness was not measured by how long the laugh lasted at the corners of the lips. But at least Rey wanted to see Luana feel comfortable, especially while they were in the large Lueic residence.
The room's lights were still brightly lit, as Rey's hand pulled up the window for him to close later.
Stepping slowly, the man then pressed a few light switches to let the dimness take over the atmosphere. Turning off the main room light, Rey now stumbled towards the other side of the bed.
Just like what happened in Heidelberg a few days ago, that's what will probably happen tonight.
Uncovering the blanket on his side, Rey laid his body on top of it. Sharing the same bed with Luana, while being on the side where she should have been when Luana had turned her back and turned her face the other way.
If a few nights ago the two of them met each other's backs, then there was something a little different tonight. For Rey seemed to have no intention of meeting Luana's back, just as she had made the decision to turn her face to stare at the silhouette of the woman's body.
The dimly lit room was almost completely dark, but thankfully Rey had left the curtains open. And that somehow managed to make room for the night light to creep in.
Breathing in slowly, the noble crossed his arms in front of his chest. His eyeballs stared straight at Luana's mane flowing on the pillow, as he whispered softly again.
"I can't guess what your expression means," the man mused. "Was it a look of joy, or was it just a look of disappointment that you were trying to obscure?"
But the question was only a question, because it could not even be uttered and stopped right at the tip of the tongue.
Until Rey closed his eyes slowly, and let the dream take over consciousness.
"Good night, Luana, I hope you sleep well and have sweet dreams tonight."
