He will use simple and straightforward language.
"We need to get Fanny out. She's not safe here. If we don't act quickly, they'll find us and kill us, kill her." Charles emphasized the last word, which sounded stern.
At that moment, Michel's heart might have stopped beating for a second as his head lifted and stared at his second in command.
The look in his eyes was painful.
You would think that a man like that wouldn't understand heartbreak.
But this look in his eyes now showed so much pain that even Charles felt it.
However, it only lasted for a moment as Michel changed almost too quickly, masking his emotions with an expression of pure determination.
His eyes flashed dangerously and they all immediately knew that Charles' words had hit the house.
Taking a deep breath, Michel nodded.
Michel stroked Fanny's cheek, his fingers barely touching her skin.
He treated her with a tenderness that no one present thought he was capable of.
Charles stood up like Michel, teleporting Fanny in his arms.
"Okay, let's get out of here." Kaylin hissed as Carlos nodded beside her.
Charles agreed as he hurried back up the stairs, Kaylin and Carlos following right behind.
However, as the two begin to climb the stairs and get out first, Charles stops and turns to find Michel standing in the middle of the concrete basement, still on the first step.
Running down the steps, he stopped in front of him and stretched out his hand.
"Give her to me." He said with his arms outstretched.
Michel shook his head, arms clasped to protect Fanny.
"Michel, we don't have time for this. You can't pick her up and keep her safe with an injured leg."
Michel's eyes sparkled with anger.
"I can protect her. You stay out of my way, Charles."
Charles stared into Michel's eyes.
But when Michel didn't move an inch and just glared back, Charles finally understood that seeing Fanny like this, there was no way Michel would let another man get close to her.
Although, it's not like they have a choice.
Their leader was wounded and if they were captured, all their efforts would be in vain, leaving the entire search for Fanny completely fruitless.
"I'll carry her out, Michel. Think about it. You can't keep her safe with your feet. I'm faster." Charles tried to reason, this time in a more suitable tone of voice that showed his allegiance.
"I will protect her as if she were my woman."
Michel's eyes glowed dangerously, limping forward so that his face was only inches away from Charles.
"She's not yours." Charles scowled.
Although the anger was still there, he saw his determination disappear because perhaps he still understood the meaning of Charles' words.
"If something happens to her, I'll kill you," Michel warned while looking down at Fanny again.
His deputy nodded. "I know."
Exhaling a shaky breath, Michel finally teleported Fanny as he carefully placed her in Charles's arms.
Michel touched her cheek in a gentle caress before nodding at him.
In response to the nod, Charles then quickly walked up the stairs with his boss right behind him.
They don't stop until they're out of the house, fortunately avoiding any Phoenixes that might appear in the meantime.
After Michel climbed into the back seat of the car, Charles put Fanny on his lap. He immediately wrapped his arms around her.
"Get us out of here, Charles," Michel ordered.
---
No one said a word during the entire drive.
Michel's eyes were fixed on Fanny as he looked at her, waiting for any sign that she was fine.
But she was still unconscious. Immobility.
He caressed her, touched her, but nothing. Not even a seizure.
When the car finally stopped, Michel opened the door and climbed out with her still in his arms.
Charles circled around the car to come and get her off him again, but Michel just walked past Charles, holding her close to his chest.
There was no way that he would let her go again because he had already lost everything in him to deliver her before.
But not now.
Michel didn't care what it felt like his leg was about to fall off.
No, he needs to keep Fanny close. He has to hug her himself.
He needs to know that she is finally safe in his arms.
Dragging his injured leg, he went straight into the house and without stopping, went upstairs to his room.
Michel certainly wouldn't take her to a cold space like a hospital.
The door was open. When he walks in, he finds Audrey standing there next to Christian, who has all sorts of devices set up beside the bed.
She rushed towards them as soon as she saw them enter the room.
"Carlos already called. I've filled the tub." Audrey muttered, stopping in front of Michel.
Audrey drew in a harsh breath at the sight of Fanny, one hand going to her swollen midsection while tears welled up in her eyes.
"Oh, Fanny..."
"Michel, you should give her a bath before I look at her. And I need Rosabella to help me. Please give her a call." Christian said as Michel went into the bathroom.
"I purposely ordered Andy to stay away from her. She would be too emotional. Is it really necessary?" Charles retorted as soon as Audrey followed their leader.
Christian gives Charles a look that makes Charles understand that he doesn't want to talk back, but he really needs a nurse's help.
"Good. Go and get her. Hurry up."
In the bathroom, Michel sat on the edge of the tub, resting Fanny on his lap while Audrey helped him undo the jacket he had wrapped around his shoulders.
Holding the shredded dress, he tore off what was left of her body.
"Let me clean up for her. You're bleeding all over the floor, Michel. Christian will handle your feet while I take care of her." Audrey suggested, gesturing for his wound.
"Are not." He is irritable.
There was no way someone else would take care of his woman. Not even Audrey.
Michel will bathe her. He will take care of her. Fanny is his. His to protect. His... love.
After four weeks, he finally has her in his arms and he's not going to let her go anytime soon.
