"You complained all summer about what you'd give him and I have what you need" "What is it?"

"Let Reggie and I come to your party and it's all yours"

She chuckles "I'm not agreeing to anything without any info, do you think I'm dumb?"

"Don't make me answer that" taking steps closer to her, "I know you didn't invite me because this has to do with Porter but I'm telling you

it doesn't" mostly. "Reggie and I just want to go to a party, that's it."

Rolling her eyes "tomorrow night at Porter's house" Garret grins, "I get last say on what you're wearing and if Reggie does one weirdo thing

he's out!"

"Fine whatever thanks!" Garret practically leaps away to find his friend "And I want that gift at the party!" She yells after her brother

Garret tells Reggie the good news and although they feel bad about keeping this from the rest of the

A/V club, the 2 are excited about their first senior party.

"A senior party on a Tuesday night?" Elaine asks during dinner as Harper tells her parents about her party

"Harp, what kind of drugs are you smoking?"

"None dad! Look it's nothing I can't handle and it's at Porter's house, so what's the problem?" "It's a party" her mom answers, "on a Tuesday"

"Your point?" Harper waits for one but neither parent answers, "it's not like I have many responsibilities right now, it'll only be the second day."

"Why not throw it on a Friday? Like normal people" "Because that's so expected."

"What?" Craig laughs at what his daughter is saying

"We want to be different dad, it's just for seniors so there won't be a lot of people there, it's more like a get together really."

"Ok then if it is just a senior party which for some reason includes you, why isn't your brother going?" She looks at Garret who's busy eating and not minding the conversation until he's pulled into it.

They'll all look at him as he shoves chicken in his mouth, "as a matter of fact Garret is going" Harper says.

"What?" Their dad reacts "he is?" "Honey, you are?" Mom looks at him Nodding "I'm a senior, aren't I?"

"Exactly so now you know it's not going to be anything big, because he wouldn't be going if it was." "I-" Elaine and Craig look at each other confused, "he's-"

Realizing his wife's too shocked Craig says "all right then, that's all I needed to hear." Not believing their son is actually going to a party the parents decide to agree just so they can see this happen.

That night while Garret is on his computer Harper walks into his room, she looks over at his bed "What are those?" She points

"Potential outfits" he answers "what do you think?"

"I think not!" She ruffles through the shirts and paints, "this" she holds up a shirt with ducks on it "this is definitely a no. Where are all the clothes mom bought?" Garret points to the pile on a chair in the corner and she walks to them grabbing them, "why are they in the corner?"

"They're not me, I don't really want to wear them"

"But They're cool, dummy! Don't you want to be cool?" She stares at the clothes after dropping them on the bed then adds, "sorta"

"They're basic"

"Less is more all right?" She grabs a plain white shirt and black jeans "these with your converses and jean jacket, perfect combo."

Garret's stares at the clothes then turn to his sister, "why is it so easy for you?" Harper listens to the question "the way you act, and dress and your friends, you seem to do it all effortlessly."

Sitting down on Garret's bed, Harper tries to answer "some things you don't have to try so hard at, I mean I get it with school and your nerd club. But social life is about not trying hard. I am a minimalist and it gets me far"

"Minimalist" Garret thinks taking what she said into consideration. "Go get your computer chair I want to show you something."

"Okay."

It's the night of the party and after getting dressed Garret walks to his sister's room as she sits in front of her vanity applying mascara.

"Well?" He asks

Turning her head she nods "not bad, but could be better" "How?" He looks down at himself

"Go put on a hoodie before the jacket, one with a zipper" "Why?"

"Just trust me!" He walks back out "and a watch!" She yells "A watch?" He questions as he walks back to his room.

Is he nervous? Yes, could tonight really be the start of him being a new Garret? Also yes. Garret couldn't wait though, he's ready for his life to start and for the first time he's hopeful.

"Oh my god Craig get your phone we have to take pictures of this," his mom says as he walks to them in the living room.

"Better yet I got this" Craig pulls out a camera "Dad that's my DSLR be careful with that!" "Shush boy, where's your sister?"

"Right here" she walks in, "ready?"

Their parents gasp "this isn't happening my babies are going to a party together"

"Mom cut it out" Harper groans "and dad put the camera down you're being weird." She turns to her brother "I'm driving or are you?"

"I can but I have to go pick Reggie up,"

"Ugh nope" she turns to her mom "can I borrow your car?" "Sure"

As she's walking away Harper says "see you there nerd, I'll be home by midnight" then the front door slams.

"I assume midnight for me as well?" Garret asks and they nod "Keep an eye on her all right?" His mom asks

"Sure, bye guys"

"Bye," they say in unison and he leaves with his keys in hand.

"Ten bucks says he comes back in an hour," Craig says once they're alone "Fifty he does in half."
