"Promotion?" I furrowed my brows, totally confused about this entire environment.
"Yeah! Promotion. The one you will get when your boss was pleased with your hard work." She explained like I don't know anything about these things.
"Pleased by?" I cocked my eyebrows looking between those two. Something fiddly here, I can smell that. I mean she is good at her work, but they don't get well for some personal rivalry.
"Glad to hear." I said blankly.
"Don't you want to know with whom I'm going to work?" She asked excitedly.
"Who?"
"It's you." She said proudly.
"What?" My eyes widen in surprise.
"Yes! Going forward I'm going to work for you as your personal assistant." Once again, she gave me those thousand watts smile. Arrhhhh!! I'm getting tired of her smiles.
"But I don't need one and I didn't ask either." I can't help but ask. I have no problem with her getting a promotion but why did he hire her as my assistant. It's totally different from her field.
"Ahh-" She trailed off. "Riya, do you have any problem as me working with you?" She whispered, covering her mouth laterally by her hand. "Please save me from the hell." She added.
"Miss. Hamen, you can leave." He dismissed her in his usual tone.
"Thank you, boss." She partially ran out of the room like a child who is excited to see a Santa Claus at Christmas.
"What're these for?" I asked the moment she left the room.
"What?" He asked innocently.
"Mr. Miller, I hope you are very well aware of my question. So skip your attitude and come straight to my point," I said not giving any room for his drama.
"Ahhmm!!" He cleared his throat and grabbed the water bottle from the table. "Just a minute." He excused before drinking the water.
"Why don't we sit and discuss things slowly? I hope we have plenty of time." He offered me to take a seat.
I glanced at my wristwatch and gave him a fake smile. "I don't think I have much time for you."
"Stubborn." He muttered under his breath. "So, what do you want to know, Miss. Kader?" He asked politely while adjusting his necktie.
"Everything!! From the beginning." I replied meeting his politeness.
"Sorry, I didn't get you." He raised his one eyebrow. Uhhh! I groaned internally. He is doing this for deliberately.
"Idiot." I muttered.
"Did you say anything?" He asked biting the corner of his lips.
"No, nothing! Mr. Miller." I faked a smile.
"So, what do you want to know?" He has the nerve to ask again.
"Ahh!-" I inhaled deeply. "Mr. Miller, when I entered the office, I was asked to use the special elevator. Is there any particular reason? I don't think it has done by official?" I shrugged my shoulders.
"It's for your safety. I don't know whoever is waiting for hurt you so it's better than be sorry." He gave me a simple reply. "And yes! I did this personally." He added instantly.
"And the Juice?" He gave me a look that said seriously Riya. "I hired her to monitor your health. My friend Jack suggested her.
"You hired her for what?" My eyes must have come out of the sockets. "Can't you see Mr. Miller, I'm perfectly alright and stop treating me like a patient." I scoffed.
"I'm pregnant, not ill." I gave him one of my best glares, but he seemed like he wasn't affected by my words, and also, I noticed a glint of happiness in his face.
"I hope all your questions have been answered. Shall we---" Before he continues further, I cut him off in his midst.
"What about Juliet? Why did you hire her as my assistant when there is no necessity for that?" He gulped visibly.
"You have a lot of responsibilities under your head and I don't want you to strain yourself for that. It may affect our baby. So, I thought she will be helpful in your work." He held an unnecessary stare on my flat tummy when he said the word 'our baby'.
"And why she?" I asked another question.
"She deserves a promotion for her loyalty."
Is this promotion?
"If you think she is loyal then why not keep her as your assistant?" I threw another question.
"I want to make sure-" He stopped.
"You want to make sure?" I pushed him further deciding to play along with him until he surrenders himself.
"Oh, God! Riya. Please stop torturing me." He groaned.
"Now tell me, what's this for?" I asked calmly enjoying the view of his stunning face. No one believes if I say their arrogant boss is standing here, tongue-tied.
"Okay...Okay. I admit it. I did this deliberately." He raised his hand as surrender.
"For what?" I have no idea why I'm asking so many questions, but I wanted to.
"Seriously Riya!!! You don't know why I did this? Of course! for the safety of you and the baby." He shook his head; his eyes widen like a panda.
"Please Riya, don't push me further. I gave my answer already." He said when I was about to open my mouth to ask another question.
"Good for you." I twisted my lips and took the water bottle from his table, the one he used before.
He watched me intently my every movement. Giving him one sharp look, I drank the water to settle down my throbbing throat.
To be continued---
"Mr. Miller it's better to keep all your shitty things in place. If not, I'm not guaranteed of what I will do." I warned and turned my heels to leave the place.
"Riya stop." He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards his chest, my hand directly landed on his well-built chest. His hand snaked around my waist protectively, preventing me from falling my butt off.
My cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Oh, God! How a man still affects me.
"Now what?" My voice betrayed me. All the cold expression I had towards him was faded in a second and he made me blush with our intimate position.
