I don't know what Jimuel's deal was, but he told me he was jealous of Luke. I wanted to ask why, but there was no time to inquire because the authorities had just arrived.
I was worried about Luke, but Jimuel didn't allow me to approach the burning café. He was probably right. I should just let the firefighters and the police do their job.
So even though I had gotten home, I was still restless. I wanted to call Luke because I was so worried. I was pacing around the living room when I heard Vanessa's voice from not too far away. It seemed like she was still talking to someone. I don't know why, but suddenly I got curious about who she was talking to, even though it was late at night.
I slowly walked towards the source of the voice and when I got close, I just hid and listened, but then my brow furrowed when I heard the name of the man she was talking to. Did I hear that right?
“What are you saying, Luke? Are you giving up already? Don’t worry, I’ll help you talk to Isabella again,” Vanessa said, and when I heard that, I was sure the person she was talking to was none other than my ex, Luke Skywalker.
Wait, so who was at the café earlier? Was that just someone who looked like Luke? Or was it all just a hallucination and a figment of my imagination? I thought about calling Jimuel to ask, but I was more intrigued to continue listening to Vanessa and Luke.
I can't explain how I felt, but I was angry. Why was Vanessa talking to Luke? And why did it seem like she was comforting him? Hold on, is Luke her new target now? Because before, she wanted to steal Aric from me. Now, she’s trying to get Luke's attention.
Before she could catch me eavesdropping, I left and went to my room. After getting ready for bed, I called Jimuel and asked about the fire, but what he said next really confused me.
“What fire are you talking about, Isabella?” Jimuel asked, and his voice showed he was also puzzled.
“The one at the café with the red roses. Didn’t it suddenly catch fire when we were outside? You saw Luke there, didn’t you, Jim?”
“What are you talking about? You must have been dreaming while awake. The café didn’t catch fire, and we didn’t see Luke there. Are you on drugs?” he joked, but it was still offensive.
“What time did we leave? Why do I seem to have seen a fire?” I asked him.
“You might have dreamed it. You did doze off on the way home. Okay, go to sleep. I’m going to sleep too,” he said, and since he seemed in a hurry to end the call, I also said goodbye.
Was it all just a dream? Why does it seem so vivid in my memory? It felt so real like the café really did burn down. But if it was just a dream, then that’s better. I thought Luke had died in the fire.
But speaking of Luke, why is he talking to Vanessa? I'm still annoyed thinking about him talking to her and clearly seeking comfort. If only he knew how manipulative Vanessa is, he would regret talking to her.
While lying in bed, I checked my phone for any missed calls from him. I needed to unblock him to see if he tried to call or message me, but there was nothing. I almost threw my phone against the wall.
In the morning, I looked like a panda because my eyes were so dark from lack of sleep. I moved slowly as I went to the bathroom to take a shower. After that, I went out of my room to join for breakfast, but I was surprised to see my parents outside my room.
“What happened? Why are you here outside my room?” I asked Mom and Dad.
“Isabella, what did you do? Why was there a remittance into your account just last night?” Mom asked, puzzled.
And I, still groggy from just waking up, furrowed my brow and didn't know what to answer. “Remittance? In my account? How much?” I asked back.
“One billion,” my parents answered together.
My eyes widened when I heard the total amount that supposedly entered my account. One billion? The last time I mentioned that amount was when Luke and I talked about an entrance fee for him to re-enter my life.
“Did you check the credit memo to see who sent the money? Maybe it’s just a glitch at the bank, Mommy. Why don’t you go to the bank and check if the money that came in is legit? It might just be a system glitch,” I suggested.
“William, what do you think?” Mom asked Dad.
“I think Isabella is right, dear. Let's go to the bank and verify it,” Dad said and then checked his watch. “The banks are about to open soon. Let’s get ready, dear.”
Because of the sudden trip by my parents, I had breakfast alone. I was almost finished when Vanessa walked into the dining room. When I looked up, our eyes met. She smiled at me first, so I also smiled back at her.
“Have you eaten yet?” I asked her.
“Not yet. I had something to take care of earlier. I just got back,” she answered.
“Where did you go?” I asked.
“Your dad asked me to buy some medicine from the pharmacy,” she replied.
“I see,” I said, but then I suddenly remembered the time when Aric caught me with a man in bed.
It was Luke who was with me then, but I really can’t remember how the man got into our room. I glanced at Vanessa again before she sat down, and then a servant approached to serve her as well.
Even though Vanessa’s rank in the Pembroke pack was omega, she was also treated like a daughter by my dad, so the servants respected and served her too. As she started eating, I thought about checking the medicines she bought.
“Are the medicines you bought already in my parents’ room?” I asked.
“Not yet. Your parents left, and their room is closed,” she answered.
“Okay. Just give them to me later, and I’ll handle giving them to her. Do you have any plans today?”
“Someone asked me to help him pick a gift for a girl he wants to court,” she replied, and I immediately thought that it must be Luke she was accompanying.
“Oh, really? Okay. You go ahead and help your friend. We can watch a movie next time,” I said because I had originally planned to watch a movie with Vanessa. “What time are you leaving?”
“After lunch,” she answered.
After we finished breakfast, I excused myself to Vanessa, saying I needed to go to the library to finish a book I was reading there. I asked the driver to take me because I also needed to talk to Selene. It had been days since I last spoke with her, and I had many questions.
However, before I could leave, my parents returned home. They came back quickly and, surprisingly, had smiles on their faces.
“Isabella, you have a billion dollars in your account!” Dad said.
My heart leaped at the confirmation. A billion dollars? Why would someone send me such an amount?
"Did you check the credit memo? Who sent the money, Mom?"
"Isabella, you won't believe this, but the money came from Luke!" said Mommy.
"Which Luke?" I asked because I don't think that guy is that rich or that foolish to believe what I said about there being an entrance fee.
"Luke Skywalker!" Mom announced and I was so stunned to speak.
