When Jimuel asked who the man I was going to marry was, I suddenly changed the topic to prevent him from probing further. Fortunately, he didn't ask again. As he said, there's nothing wrong with us eating seafood even if it's late.
He took me to a floating restaurant and I was amazed by the ambiance of the place. From our table, I could see a café bustling with people. My brows furrowed as I looked over.
"Why are there so many people there?" I asked Jim. "Is their coffee good?"
"I don’t know, but there are LED roses outside the café and that’s what really draws people there for picture-taking," he replied.
"Are we going to stop by there later?" I asked.
"If you want, why not? Do you want to?"
"Yes," I said.
"Alright, later, Isabella. After we eat, we'll stop by the café. By the way, who are you marrying again?" Jimuel asked again about my fiancé.
"Someone from De Luca Corporation," I said.
"I hope it’s not that old man, Isabella. If your dad forces you to marry that old man, I’ll sacrifice myself and marry you instead," Jimuel offered.
"I don’t want that. My life would just be miserable because you haven’t moved on from your ex yet. I don't want that," I said.
"So, you’d choose that old man?"
"Let's not talk about that anymore. How long until our order arrives?" I asked him.
"Yes, indeed. Wait, I’ll just follow up at the counter to see where our food is," said Jimuel, and he immediately stood up and went to talk to a staff member there.
After a few minutes, Jimuel returned to the table, and soon after, the waiters came out with our ordered food. Just from the smell, I knew the food was going to be delicious.
"Let's eat," said Jimuel, and he even added some eel soup to my bowl.
Throughout the entire dining experience, I realized that Jimuel was actually very thoughtful. He even peeled the shrimp and cracked the crab for me. But as he did this, I thought he only saw me as a sister. After all, he really hadn't moved on from his late girlfriend. After we finished eating, we headed to the café. We took several photos with our cellphones, and then we went inside and ordered two macchiatos.
While inside the café, we just chatted about random topics and didn’t realize we had overstayed. When I checked my watch, it was already past midnight. It was almost 2 a.m., and I knew my dad would be furious if he found out I was out. We were about to leave when I spotted an entering customer and my eyes widened in recognition of the two.
“What’s wrong, Isabella?” Jimuel asked when he noticed my reaction.
"Luke is coming into the café, Jim. What do I do? I don't want him to see me," I said.
"Just stay calm. There are a lot of customers here, so don’t make it obvious. When he’s at the counter, we'll leave," Jim suggested, and I nodded.
"Okay," I said because I was really nervous.
I didn't want our paths to cross again. Since I had decided to marry someone else, I needed to forget him completely. And I wouldn't be able to do that if we kept seeing each other. It would be better if I didn’t see him and didn’t hear anything about him.
As Jimuel said earlier, we needed to wait for the perfect time to leave the place. We patiently waited for a moment when Luke wouldn’t see us. When we saw him go straight to the counter and he seemed to be calling someone on the phone, we quickly left the café.
"Were you nervous?" asked Jimuel.
"A bit. I just don't want us to meet or talk. You know. There’s also no point in talking," I said.
“You might still be able to fix your relationship with him, and it seems like you still really love Luke. Do you really not want to make amends with him?”
“What’s the point? I’ll just get hurt," I replied.
"Fair enough. Anyway, I’ll take you home now, they might be looking for you," said Jimuel.
"Don’t worry, I'm sure my dad already knows where I am," I replied because I had felt the presence of my bodyguard nearby, secretly watching over me.
“Very good. Shall we?”
“Yes – I didn't finish what I was going to say to Jimuel because suddenly the entire café exploded. My eyes widened as I stared at the blazing establishment. I looked at Jimuel and even he couldn’t believe what he had witnessed.
What if we hadn't left?
Then, my eyes widened again as I remembered Luke was inside! I panicked and didn't know what to do. “Jim, Luke! He was inside the café before it exploded!”
“Calm down, Arianna. The café probably has other fire exits,” said Jim.
“What if he didn't get out? I don’t want him to die,” I said as I couldn't stop myself from crying.
I just looked at the burning café and after a few moments, firefighters arrived to extinguish the fire. I wanted to help and go inside the collapsing café, but Jimuel held my hand tightly and wouldn't let me go! I tried to pull away, but I couldn't.
“Stay here beside me,” Jimuel whispered amid the chaos.
“What about Luke?” I asked, my eyes still fixed on the burning site.
“Isabella, what? He hurt you, and you’re still worried about him! Wake up to reality, Isabella.”
“Why do you seem angry?” I asked him.
“I am angry because I’m jealous. I’m jealous of Luke,” he declared.
