Four years later, Los Angeles International Airport.
A woman in a stylish trench coat stepped out of the arrivals gate.
She immediately put on a pair of sunglasses and a face mask, ensuring she was completely unrecognizable before proceeding.
As she reached the pickup area, she spotted Jessica scanning the crowd.
A warmth spread through Emily's chest. She snuck up behind Jessica and tapped her on the shoulder.
Jessica jumped, startled.
Emily discreetly lowered her mask.
"Jessica, it's me."
Jessica stared at her for a long moment before pulling her into a tight hug, her voice thick with emotion.
"Emily, you're finally back."
Emily patted her back, signaling for them to leave the crowded area.
Jessica snapped back to reality and quickly grabbed the luggage cart, heading for the parking garage.
Once they were in the van, Emily finally took off her mask and sunglasses, revealing a face that had grown even more radiant.
She was in a much better place than she had been four years ago.
Jessica felt like she was looking at the Emily who had just started her career—confident and bold, but now with an added layer of poise.
She teased her, "Emily, it's been four years, but it looks like you've been doing well in the UK. And here I was, worried you weren't eating properly, sending you all those care packages."
Emily smiled and patted her stomach.
"It's all thanks to you. In that culinary wasteland, not only did I not lose weight, I actually gained a few pounds."
Her bright smile made Jessica feel nostalgic.
"This is the Emily I first met."
She waved a hand dismissively.
"Ugh, I'm getting old, bringing up the past."
"Now that you're back, are you planning to return to the UK?"
Emily nodded.
"Michael's movie is finished. I'm just back for the US premiere. After that, I have to attend events in other countries."
"My next film is already lined up. Michael recommended me to a friend of his. I think... I'll probably be based abroad for the foreseeable future."
Jessica was thrilled that Emily had found her footing in the international film scene.
Emily was the first artist she had ever managed.
She had spent four years watching her grow from a newcomer to an Oscar winner.
She, too, had grown from a novice agent into a seasoned professional.
Jessica had been the most heartbroken when Emily retired to marry Daniel.
Not because she was losing a money-maker.
But because all of Emily's hard work was being thrown away.
Four years, from unknown to superstar.
Only Jessica knew how much effort Emily had put in.
Moreover, Emily's talent for acting surpassed most of her peers. She saw it not as a job, but as her passion.
But as a friend, she also wanted Emily to be happy.
When she saw how much Daniel loved Emily, she thought Emily had found her fated mate.
She hadn't tried to dissuade her, choosing instead to offer her blessings.
But no one could have predicted their mating would last only three years.
Emily had suffered immensely in that relationship, losing her sharp edges and vibrant spirit.
But now, four years later, she was seeing the twenty-year-old Emily again.
She was confident that, in time, the name Emily Vance would be known all over the world.
After checking into her hotel, Emily collapsed onto the bed, exhausted.
Jessica looked at her several times, clearly wanting to say something.
Emily rolled over and said, "Jessica, if you have something to say, just say it."
Jessica hesitated for a moment before finally speaking.
"Emily, after you left, Daniel never stopped looking for you. For four years. If you run into him while you're here..."
Hearing Daniel's name after four years, Emily felt nothing.
"Our bond is over. To me, he's just someone I used to know."
"Besides... the premiere is being hosted by his company, 'Blackwood Entertainment.' Michael asked me to handle the negotiations with them. He's going to find out I'm back sooner or later."
Jessica looked worried.
"What if Daniel apologizes and asks you to get back together with him?"
Emily knew Jessica was afraid she would soften and forgive him. She cleared her throat and reassured her.
"Don't worry, Jessica. My feelings for him died four years ago."
Hearing that, Jessica breathed a sigh of relief.
She told Emily to get some rest and then left the hotel.
The fatigue from the long flight washed over her, and Emily slept until the next day.
She checked the time and saw it was almost time for her meeting with Blackwood Entertainment.
She quickly got ready and headed over.
Inside the conference room at Blackwood Entertainment.
Daniel glanced at his watch, tapping his fingers rhythmically on the table, a low-pressure aura surrounding him.
"It's past the scheduled time. Are Michael's people not here yet?"
Just as he finished speaking, a woman's voice came from the doorway.
"Sorry, I'm late."
