Sarah's POV
When I opened my eyes, I saw a pure white ceiling.
Where was I? Was I dead?
Pain shot through my entire body, making me cry out.
"Don't move." A gentle voice spoke as a warm hand carefully pressed against me.
"Take it easy. Stay still, or you'll reopen your wounds."
I looked up in surprise to see a man in a white coat standing by my window, watching me with concern.
Looking around at the hospital bed and IV drip, I realized I must be in a hospital.
"Why am I in the hospital?" I mumbled. “Wasn’t I…”
Memories of last night's horror flooded back, the terror and despair still lingering. I winced involuntarily.
"Don't worry, you're safe now," the man said gently. "I found you just in time. Apart from losing a lot of blood, you'll be fine."
I studied the man before me. He looked to be in his late twenties or early thirties, with handsome features and a tall build. His demeanor was warm and soothing.
I vaguely remembered last night - when I was struggling, one of the men had grown angry and struck me with a rock from the ground.
As I collapsed, just before my eyes closed, I saw someone running toward me.
"Did you save me? Thank you. I'll find a way to repay you for saving my life."
"It's nothing," he smiled softly. "I'm a doctor. Saving lives is my duty."
He poured me a glass of warm water. "Here, drink this. It'll help your throat."
I realized my lips were cracked and painful. "Thank you."
Glancing at the wall clock, I suddenly remembered my flight scheduled for today - I'd missed it!
"Excuse me, could I borrow your phone?" I grabbed his arm urgently. "I need to let my family know I'm okay."
"Of course. Just call me when you're done." He handed me his phone and thoughtfully closed the door.
"Hello? Mom, it's Sarah."
"What happened?" Mom's worried voice came through. "You were supposed to be on the noon flight. Where are you?"
"We couldn't reach you. Your father and I were so worried."
I sighed. "Something came up, and I lost my phone."
"Hurry and get ready. We've arranged everything here - the flight and the meeting with the guy I told you about.”
"Alright, I'll call you again later."
I returned his phone after hanging up.
"I'm sorry, I forgot to ask - what's your name? You saved my life, I should know who to thank."
"No thanks needed," he shook his head. "Just remember my name - Daniel Williams.”
"I will," I said, pushing back the blanket. "I have something urgent to attend to. I'll pay the medical bills later."
Seeing my urgency, Daniel didn't stop me, just walked me to the hospital entrance.
He reminded me to care for my wounds, "Keep the wounds dry, and come back if you have any problems."
"Thank you." His kindness touched my heart. I smiled at him. "Dr. Williams, you're truly a good person."
He didn't respond, but his smile seemed to hold deeper meaning.
After leaving the hospital, I quickly got myself together and boarded the flight home.
As soon as I landed, my mom practically dragged me into the car, “Hurry up, he's waiting at the restaurant!"
"Listen, he's perfect - great job, great personality. If you mess this up, don't bother coming home!"
I pushed open the restaurant door with resignation, but was shocked to see who was waiting.
"Dr. Williams? How are you here?"
I never imagined that the man who saved my life yesterday would be my date today.
Life works in mysterious ways.
"How are you feeling? Are your injuries still hurting?" He thoughtfully pulled out my chair, his first concern being my wounds.
"Much better, thanks to you."
"I'm glad." He smiled softly, sitting across from me. "Let me properly introduce myself."
"I'm Daniel William, 25 years old, working as a doctor."
"My family hopes I'll settle down soon. I've learned a bit about your situation, and to be honest, I'm quite impressed with you."
"What about you? What do you think of me?"
I froze, forgetting about the coffee in my hand.
He smiled warmly at me, his presence as comforting as spring sunshine.
I suddenly felt shy, answering quietly, "You're a wonderful person. I couldn't find any fault with you."
He'd not only saved my life but was also genuinely kind and gentle.
I always felt at ease around him - how could I find anything wrong with him?
"In that case, let's get married right now."
"So soon?" I looked up in surprise.
