Just as Zachary was about to blow up, I shut the door.
“Why did you lie to him?” Avalon asked.
“I’m an adult now. I don’t want him dictating how I should live my life anymore.”
With that, Avalon did not ask further questions.
Zachary stood outside for a long time.
When he finally left, Avalon returned to his room.
I was quite distracted over the next two days of shooting, and Zachary kept following us.
No, instead of saying that he was following me, he was following Melody.
Whenever Melody acted all cutesy with him, I would pretend not to see.
I pretended to be unaffected by him.
After the photoshoot ended on the third day, Melody offered to treat us to some food, but I said no.
Avalon seemed to figure something out, but he was really tactful about it.
Even when we were on our way back, he did not ask any questions.
“Avalon, is the place you found still available?”
“Yeah. Ninian has already moved in. If you two live together, you can take care of each other. I’ll be living on the floor above yours.”
So, I decided to move out of Zachary’s place.
He saw me while I was packing up.
“Where are you going?”
“To the apartment I’m renting with a friend. It’ll be easier to deal with work that way.”
“I didn’t allow you to move out.”
“Do I still need your permission to move out? You’re not my real uncle anyway. We’re not related by blood.”
“Is that why you’ve decided to leave? Is it because of that Avalon boy?”
“It has nothing to do with you.”
I knew that Melody was going to move in in the future.
Instead of being chased out, I would rather move out on my own terms.
I had romantic feelings toward Zachary. If I let this love continue to grow, things would only get harder for me, so I decided to forget about it entirely.
Once he got married in the future, he would still be my uncle.
As long as we did not live under the same roof, we could avoid many awkward situations.
Zachary grabbed my wrist. “Summer, could you stop being so headstrong? Just stay at home. You don’t even need to work. I can take care of you for life.”
Suddenly, his phone rang.
Zachary let go of my wrist and went to the balcony to answer Melody’s call.
Clearly, he did not want me to hear their conversation.
My ID was with Zachary, so I went to his room to search for it. But as I was going through his stuff, I found something.
Under his pillow was my dress.
I had lost it a long time ago.
At that time, Zachary had said, “It’s fine. I’ll buy you a new one.”
I did not know why it was under his pillow. On top of that, it was the same as the one in my dream.
My thoughts were a mess as I stood there in shock.
When Zachary started walking toward me, I pretended as if I never saw it and put it back.
Once I found my ID, I attempted to leave, but Zachary stopped me.
“Summer, can we talk a little more about you moving out?”
However, I did not listen.
Avalon called me and said that he was going to pick me up.
I did not even say goodbye to Zachary.
When the car was far away, I finally unclenched my fists slowly. I had clenched them so tightly that my knuckles turned white.
How great would it be if he were not my uncle?
How great would it be if he did not like Melody?
Also, how great would it be if that night had been real?
Unfortunately for me, I always liked having such fantasies.
Before I became an adult, Zachary had warned me more than once not to have such thoughts toward him.
He also said that he would never like me.
I wiped away the tears that were about to fall and did my best to calm down.
It was fine. All I needed to do was stop liking him.
