AMELIA’S P.O.V
I regretted my words the moment I saw the three guards that Kaden had arranged for me.
He had a smile of pride on his face once they arrived and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. They were quite possibly the biggest and scariest men I had ever seen in my life. One of them had tattoos all over his arm, the other had a mean resting face that could make a grown man piss his pants. The third didn’t look as scary as the others but his sheer size alone was enough to make a person pause.
“These are your guards,” he gestured to the men in front of me. “They’ll take you to Clara’s house first and you can go wherever you want after.”
I crossed my arms over my chest and stared at him blankly. “Are you serious?”
“You said as many as I want. I wanted to get you four guards but I figured it would be too much.”
“And you don’t think three is a little over the top?”
“It’s this or nothing, baby.”
I let out an exasperated sigh before turning to the guards. “Fine.”
Neither of them broke a smile or even looked at me for longer than a second and I knew that had more to do with Kaden’s order than their personal choice. They moved in sync as they walked into the car and I sat at the back with the third guard. The longer I looked at him, the more I realized he reminded me of a teddy bear.
He caught me staring and turned to me. “Do you need something, Luna?”
From his tone, he was genuinely curious but that didn’t stop my cheeks from turning a bright pink color.
“What’s your name?”
He hesitated. “I don’t know if I’m allowed.”
“Kaden is an overprotective ass, but I assure you, there’s no issue with you telling me your name.”
He swallowed deeply before speaking. “It’s Theodore.”
I almost snorted. It fit him perfectly, he was like a huge teddy bear.
“You don’t look very scary, Theodore.”
The corner of his lips tugged upwards. “My mate says I remind her of a teddy bear.”
At this point, I couldn’t help but laugh. “I thought the same thing. You can call me Amelia, you know? Luna seems too formal.”
“I would very much like to keep my head on my shoulders, Luna. The Alpha was very clear with his instructions.”
“Allow me worry about my mate. Amelia is fine.”
When Clara opened the door, her eyes widened in shock. “I didn’t know we had guests.”
“Guards,” I corrected. “Theodore, Bear and Conan.”
I pointed them out as I mentioned their names. Conan was the one with tattoos while Bear never smiled. I actually didn’t mind them much anymore. Theodore turned out to be very fun- Conan too. Bear seemed more focused on his work but I didn’t mind.
Clara waved awkwardly at them before turning back to me. “Where are we going?”
“Aaron,” I said simply and her eyes widened in understanding.
“I’m guessing that Kaden didn’t trust you to go alone with me.”
“It’s not about you, I swear. We saw Blake yesterday and he is just feeling very protective,” my words eased something in her but I could tell she was still worried about it. “He doesn’t blame you, Clara, and neither do I. There was nothing you could do. You tried to get me out in time and that is enough.”
She buried her face in her hands. “I haven’t used my powers since you left. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. The only time I did was when you were coming. I didn’t even use it willingly, it just snuck up on me.”
“Why?”
“It failed us,” she whispered. “If we had just stayed in the pack house, we would have been safe. I was trying so hard to avoid the danger that we walked right into it.”
I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and lay my head against hers. “You wanted to save me, Clara. That is enough for me. You have nothing to feel guilty about.”
My guards drew attention with each step we took. Everyone stared at them with a mixture of shock and fear. It was over the top to say the least but I actually didn’t mind it.’
When we got to Aaron’s door, they wanted to go in but I stopped them. “You can wait here.”
It was Bear who frowned. “The Alpha said you were not to be out of our sight for even a second.”
“Aaron isn’t going to hurt me,” I rolled my eyes. “I am just behind this door.”
He was very uncomfortable with it because he shifted awkwardly on his feet. “But the Alpha-”
“You’re not coming in with me,” I cut him off. My voice held no room for protest. “You can stand outside this door and listen in for all I care but you will not follow me.”
“How will we know if you’re in danger?” Theodore asked. “If anything should happen to you-”
“The rooms are not sound proof. You can put your ears to the door if you want but if I am in danger, I’ll just scream. I’ll only be there for a few minutes at best. I’ll be fine.”
It was clear they didn’t agree but they didn’t try to stop me as I knocked and opened the door. Aaron was seated in his bed with his hands folded in his lap. He looked much better than he did the last time I saw him.
“I heard you were back. I was wondering when you’d come to see me.”
“I apologize for the delay. I was held back for a few days.”
“I know all about your kidnapping. Your mate actually suspected me for a while,” my eyes widened in shock but he waved me off. “I don’t blame him, it was only natural. Besides, it gave me the chance to prove myself when he let me out to try and find you and I returned.”
“He let you out?”
He laughed. “There’s a lot for us to catch up on, Sit down, Amelia.”
