KADEN’S P.O.V

I hadn’t left my house in days and I didn’t let anyone in to see me either.

Caleb hadn’t found her and while I logically knew that it wasn’t his fault, that didn’t stop me from needing someone to blame. I could have killed Blake and I wish I did, it would have been one lest scum on the earth but I couldn’t, not unless I had her safely in my arms. I didn’t know what plans he had put in place in case he was dead and I couldn’t trust that he wouldn’t use her as a bargaining chip.

Caleb had his spies combing the other places but it was a lot harder now that we had Blake’s attention. I knew for a fact that if he even thought we were too close, he would take her and run and that was what I was trying to avoid.

I felt the pressure at the back of my mind but I ignored it. There were very few people who would dare mind link me right now and I didn’t want to talk to either of them. It persisted for a while but I slammed my wall firmly in place.

As if on cue, my phone rang and this time, I was shocked to see Clara’s name on the caller ID. Ever since Amelia went missing, she had avoided me. I knew it was partly because she felt guilty and while I should have approached her and told her that I didn’t blame her, I couldn’t bring myself to do that. Logically, I knew that for her to reach out to me, it had to be serious but I still hung up her call.

I stared at the map laid out in front of me. Red tacks signified the places we had searched and blue tacks the places we hadn’t. Right now, there were only two blue tacks on the board. Caleb’s spies were to search them out tomorrow. I was terrified at the prospect of them doing that because it could go one of two ways- we either find her or we don’t.

The idea of not finding her was fucking terrifying. I wasn’t sure how I would handle myself if after everything, I didn’t end up with her in my arms. My phone rang again but I turned it off. I needed my full attention on the map in front of me. I needed to analyze, needed to think.

I wasn’t sure how long I sat there but a few moments later, the door slammed open and Clara walked in. She looked different from the last time I saw her, she had grown out her hair and for once, she wasn’t dressed like she stepped out of a fairy magazine and to top it off, she looked pissed.

“I have been trying to contact you,” she said in an accusing tone. “I mind linked and I called but you didn’t answer me.”

“”I don’t want to see anyone right now, Clara, you can leave.”

“It is about Amelia,” that had my spine straightening and I turned to her. “At least I think it is. I can’t be completely sure because the birds are still animals and they don’t always give me the best interpretations of what is-”

“Focus,” I snapped a little too harshly and she flinched. “What did you see? Where is Amelia?”

“She isn’t with Blake,” I let out an exasperated sigh. “No, you don’t understand. She was with him but now, she isn’t. He is searching for her.”

“How do you know that?”

“I saw him. He knows she will come to find us so he has men in strategic points around the pack,” she walked over to the map in front of me and pointed out to three spots. “He has men there waiting to grab her and he will if we aren’t quick enough.”

“What do you mean by he will?”

She hesitated before speaking in a soft voice. “I smelled her when I was in one of the birds. I tried to follow her scent but it washed out close to a river. She is doing her best to remain careful and hidden but that river is about a little less than day’s run from here. If my calculations are right, she might be here within the day. If not, maybe tomorrow but Blake cannot be allowed to grab her.”

“Call Caleb. Have him send guards out there. I want every man or woman from Blake’s pack killed on the fucking spot.”

I knew I was being harsh but I couldn’t bring myself to care. My mate was coming. I had underestimated her strength because I thought that I would be the one to save her but she had proven me wrong. She escaped on her own and she was on her way here. The least I could do was ensure that she got here safely.

It didn’t take long to assemble the guards. My skin itched with anticipation and excitement. I still couldn’t fell Amelia’s wolf but I trusted Clara and if she said that Amelia was coming then I believed her.

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay back?” Caleb asked as we got ready to spread out the guards. “I can go with them, I can clear the space for her like we did the first time she came.”

“The first time she came, I was too far up my own ass to realize that my mate was on her way and I should have been there to receive her. I would be damned if I didn’t personally receive her now. She did the hard part, the least I could do is this.”

Caleb grinned. “You have come a long way from where you started.”

“We all have,” I told him simply. “Let’s go kill some wolves.”

“You want everyone dead?” he asked wanting to be sure.

“There is a woman, Alex. If you see her, then keep her alive for me. She will be a good bargaining chip.”
