AMELIA’S P.O.V
Blake hadn’t touched me again since that day but I couldn’t shake the guilt that I felt. I knew why I had done it but that didn’t seem like enough of a justification to me. I had kissed another man, I had let him kiss my skin and even though an entire day had passed and I had scrubbed my skin so hard it turned red, I still felt very dirty.
Blake had been whistling around the house since yesterday. I could tell that he was happy with himself. I was starting to wear him down and he was starting to believe that I truly loved him but I still hadn’t won him over enough to make him believe that he could let me out. I hadn’t asked yet and I wasn’t going to so I didn’t rouse much suspicion.
“Aren’t you hungry?” he asked snapping me out of my thoughts. He was sitting on the table next to me. “You haven’t even touched your food. If you want something else-”
“No, this is fine,” I stared down at the plate of pasta. It was good, I just didn’t have much of an appetite. I forced a forkful into my mouth and when Blake looked away from me, I sighed.
He didn’t move from the table until I had eaten every last bite from my plate. The food settled like lead in my stomach and once I was done, he pressed a soft kiss to the center of my head. It was so domestic and perhaps in another world, I would have loved it. Perhaps in another world, I would have been his mate and this never would have happened.
“Why didn’t you just ask Kaden to hand me over?” I asked and he turned to me. “He might have agreed.”
“No man in their right senses will hand you over.”
“That might be true but what happens after this? I’m not going to be here forever, am I?”
“Of course not,” he crouched down until he was at eye level with me. “I would never hide you away. Once I break our bond, we will get out of here and rule together just as it was supposed to be. We will banish your father and Brittany for the crimes they committed against you.”
“Crimes?” I asked confused.
“Oh, Amelia, there is so much that you do not know,” he pulled out a seat and sat down opposite me. “Your father stole you from your mother. You and Brittany are not sisters.”
As he spoke, my heart began to pound in my chest. Did he know the truth about who I was? Did he know about my powers? Was that the real reason for all of this? I should have listened to Aaron when he told me that people would start coming for me. I had just assumed that he meant my father. I didn’t think this was what he meant.
I swallowed deeply, thinking of how to respond. “What do you mean? Who told you?”
“Brittany did. She doesn’t know who your real mother is but she tells me that your father took you because she was the daughter of an Alpha or something. You were born to rule but he didn’t want that and he tried to control you.”
I let out a small sigh of relief. At least he didn’t know about my powers. If he did, I had no doubts that he would have tried to suppress my wolf.
“So what happens now? I get your mark and we leave, right?” I asked and he nodded. “Kaden would never let that happen. He will try and get me back. He will claim you stole me which is true.”
“I stole you back.”
“My father sent me away, Blake,” he gritted his teeth and I knew that I was losing him. “I am just telling you what the people will say. They will paint you as the villain. They will make you out to be the bad guy and I don’t want that for you, for us. I want us to start on a clean slate.”
He was silent for a full minute. I could tell he wasn’t happy about my words but he was smart enough to know that I was right. Whatever plan he had in motion had a shit ton of holes in them. It wasn’t going to be sunshine and roses. He was calling for war.
“We will fight Kaden, we will defeat him. We will find your family and-”
“Do you really think Gregory would have kept my family alive and they wouldn’t have come for me?” I asked and he sighed. “I don’t have a family and most packs would side with Kaden. They would see you as someone who stole another Alpha’s mate.”
He gripped my shoulders hard. “You are my mate.”
“I am,” I said quickly trying to diffuse the tension. “But we have to do this carefully. Let me go back to him.”
“No,” he said without hesitation. “If you go, he will never let you come back. I know the bastard and I know how he thinks. I went through so much to try and get you out of there.”
“Then let me write to him,” I was grasping for straws at this point. “I will tell him that I don’t want him and I want to be with you instead. You can take a picture of the letter and keep a copy so if it ever comes down to it, you can say that I left him of my own free will.”
“Do you think it will work?”
I nodded. “I know that it will. Let me write to Kaden. You have already done so much for us, it is my turn to return the favor.”
I held my breath as he pondered over my words. I knew he was never going to agree to a meeting which was why I started with it. In comparison, a letter seemed like an easier option. It almost seemed logical.
“Fine, I’ll get the pen and paper.”
