KADEN’S P.O.V
The urge to find Amelia was overwhelming. I had heard about mates not wanting to be separated after being marked but I had never experienced it before. It was even worse than I had thought.
We hadn’t even been away from each other for two hours and already I wanted to find her. I wanted to bend he rover my desk and fuck her until we both couldn’t breathe, I wanted to inhale her scent and feel her against me. It wasn’t even just about fucking her, I just wanted her. I wanted her around me, I wanted her next to me, I wanted her in the air that I breathe.
I didn’t want to call her yet, I didn’t want to scare her or make her run. She had barely forgiven me and I was still making amends for all the shit I had done so I sent her lunch and flowers. I had sent it a while ago, I was just waiting for her call. It was pathetic how I held my phone in her hands waiting eagerly to see her name on my screen.
When it started to ring, I didn’t even wait to see who was calling before answering. When I heard the other voice on the line, I stilled.
“Alpha, she isn’t here,” I didn’t recognize the voice instantly.
“Excuse me? Who the fuck is this?”
“I’m the person tasked with delivering the flowers, sir. I’ve been knocking for ten minutes now and no one is here. There is no car in the driveway, she isn’t here. I don’t know where she is.”
I cursed and hung up on him, immediately dialing Amelia’s number but it went straight to voicemail. I let out a curse before trying again but I got the same response. I didn’t want to panic just yet, she had the right to leave the house, she wasn’t a prisoner, I just needed to know where she was.
I dialed Caleb next. “I need you to find Amelia for me.”
“That’s one way to say hello,” he drawled and I heard him chew on something on the other end of the phone. “Have you tried calling her?”
“Yes, it keeps going to voicemail. I think something is wrong. I wouldn’t ask if I wasn’t worried. Please.”
I think it was the last word that made him realize that I wasn’t joking. He hung up immediately and I ran my hands through my hair. I couldn’t stay in my office, not when she was missing. I didn’t even realize when I found myself walking out and heading straight for my car. I wasn’t sure exactly where I was going but I was going to check every possible place that she liked to visit starting with her friend’s café.
I had been driving around for thirty minutes to no avail when I got a call from Caleb.
“Tell me you found her,” his answering silence told me everything I needed to know. I let out a sigh. “What did you find?”
“She went to see Aaron,” I cursed turning the car around immediately and heading straight for the pack house. “But she isn’t there. I went there myself and I asked the guards. She was there and then she ran out with Clara. They said they were listening in and Aaron didn’t say anything to her. Clara just said they needed to leave. Has she called back?”
“No, I’ve been trying her. When did they leave?”
“Over half an hour ago. I’ll meet you there.”
I cursed turning onto the road that leads to Clara’s house from the pack house. It was a lonely road and before I loved it but now it filled me with nothing but dread. Above me, the sky darkened and lightning flashed through the sky. It almost felt like the weather was reflecting the storm inside of me.
I found the car a few minutes away from the house. It was slammed into a tree slightly off the road. The side door was open and even before I got close, I knew what I was going to see but nothing prepared me for the sight. Amelia was gone. Clara was still inside but she was slumped forward over the steering wheel.
I reached out for her, carrying her out immediately. Her breathing was shallow and slow but at least she was alive. There weren’t any footsteps, no drag marks, nothing to indicate that Amelia had carried herself out. It was clear that there was someone else behind this. Panic rushed through my lungs. How long ago did this happened? How much of a head start did they have?
“Kaden!” I heard Caleb yell as he rushed out of the car. He was with guards and as soon as he saw Clara in my arms he cursed. “What happened? How is she? Where is Amelia?”
“Take your sister to the hospital. She is barely breathing. I think she was hurt.”
My voice was monotonous and detached, I almost couldn’t recognize it. It was the best I could do to prevent my wolf from taking over. The reality that Amelia was missing was crashing into me with each passing second and I could feel the last threads of my sanity begin to slip away.
“Kaden,”
I ignored him and turned to the guards. “Close the borders of the pack. No one goes in or out until I find my mate, is that clear?”
They all nodded and there was a chorus of ‘yes, Alpha.’
“I want every inch of this pack turned upside down. I want the names of the guards at the border. So help me if she doesn’t turn up in the next few minutes.”
Without another word, I gave into my wolf, shifting as I dashed into the woods. Caleb could handle his sister. I needed to find my mate.
