AMELIA’S P.O.V
I didn’t have classes the next morning and Kaden told me I didn’t have to go into work if I didn’t feel like it. I waited until he had left the house before I got into the car and drove off to Clara’s house. I didn’t tell her that I was coming so I muttered a small prayer hoping that she would be there when I arrived. I didn’t see her car in the driveway so I was already freaking out but I still made my way over to the door and knocked.
Pamela was the one who opened it and she looked surprised to see me. “I knew you would miss us but I didn’t expect you back this soon,” she teased as she pulled me into a hug. “I was just about to step out but I can wait behind if you want.”
“That won’t be necessary,” I assured her but she still looked a little skeptical. “I just wanted to see Clara, is she here?”
She shook her head. “She just stepped out but she should be back in a few minutes. You can wait for her if you life but I would have to leave you here alone, is that okay?” I nodded and she smiled. “There is food in the kitchen if you’re hungry.”
“Thank you,” she waved me off and I watched her disappear.
My stomach rumbled so I made my way to the kitchen and did a little happy dance when I saw muffins on the table. I took two along with some fruit juice and sat on the couch while waiting for Clara. I didn’t have to wait long before she walked into the house. She was on her phone and she didn’t notice me immediately. When she did, she jumped and muttered a few words under her breath.
“I’ll call you back,” she said to the person on the other end of the line before turning to me. “I didn’t realize you were going to be here. Are you okay?”
I nodded but she could tell that there was something. She placed her bags on the floor and took the seat next to me. She watched me carefully without saying a word and I realized she was giving me the chance to speak on my terms.
“Do you remember when I asked you about breaking bonds?” I asked and she frowned before nodding. “I would be very happy if you had any information for me.”
“I didn’t research anything,” I was taken aback by her words and she must have seen the hurt on my face because she explained. “You are so happy with Kaden and you just moved in with him. Why do you want to break your bond? I don’t think it is a good idea and I don’t want you to make a hasty decision. This isn’t something you can take back.”
“That wasn’t your call to make.”
“I am your friend¸Amelia, you are like my sister, I am just trying to look out for you Kaden is an amazing person, if you do this-”
“It isn’t for Kaden!” she went silent because I had never raised my voice at her before. “I have a bond with Blake too. I don’t know how it happened but I have a bond with both of thembut Blake’s is weaker. I didn’t want to say anything because I knew it would only make matters worse with Kaden.”
“I didn’t know,” she had the decency to look sheepish.
“I didn’t want anyone to know. I want to break the bond with Blake. Kaden still gets jealous because of him and I want to do this because I want to show Kaden that he is the only one I want to be with. I thought I could trust you, that was why I spoke to you.”
“I am so sorry, Amelia,” she reached out for me but I shifted away from her grip. “I will start searching today and I willlet you know whatever I find out.”
Once I realized I had her help, I stood to my feet. “You cannot tell Kaden or anyone about this. It has to remain between us.”
“I won’t tell anyone, youhave my word.”
I knew my secret was safe with her, so I let out a sigh of relief. “I think I should go.”
“I’m not going anywhere, it would be fin to spend time together.”
“I have to get to work, maybe later?”
If she knew I was a little upset with her for her assumptions, she didn’t make it known. She just nodded and led me to the door. I could see her hesitating as if she wanted to say something but at the last minute, she decided to stay quiet. We didn’t even exchange proper goodbyes as I got into my car but I noticed her standing at the door until I had disappeared.
By the time I got to the office, I was already exhausted but there was something I needed to do. I didn’t have the time to ask on Friday because I was too shaken from the rogue attack and Sunday came with the disastrous dinner but now that I was thinking clearly, I was determined to get my answers.
I walked up to Kaden’s office and opened the door without knocking. He looked up ready to berate whoever it was but when he saw me, I saw the tension leave his shoulders. I locked the door behind me because I didn’t want anyone accidentally overhearing us.
“Are you alright?” he asked and I nodded. “You didn’t have to come in today, there isn’t much to do.”
“I know, I just wanted to aska question,” his brows furrowed in confusion as I took the seat opposite him. “How bad is the rogue problem?I know you were hiding something from me on Friday.”
“it’s not important.”
“I was attacked by them, I would say it is a little bit important,” I shot back and he frowned. “Was your meeting with the Alphas about the rogues?” when he stayed silent, I knew I was right. “Why didn’t you tell me? Are they the same rogues that chased me into the pack?”
“No,” that was the first verbal answer I got from him and it was followed with a sigh. “Amelia, I don’t want you involved in this.”
“I already am so you might as well just tell me everything now,” when he didn’t budge, I moved for another tactic. “Please, Kaden, I jiust want to fell like I am helping. I hate feeling helpless.”
I could see the internal struggle going on in his eyes and I expected him to refuse but he let out a deep sigh. “If I tell you then you have to promise to stay out of it, do we have a deal?”
I nodded. “Deal.”
He muttered something under his breath about making a deal with the devil. “I want to preface by saying that this started long before you even set foot in my pack.”
BLAKE’S P.O.V
Gregory had been avoiding me and I didn’t quite care about it until I received word from the guards that he had called for me. I was in the middle of an important callwith Jamal and I was pissed to say the least. I couldn’t wait until he was dethroned and I didn’t have to respond to his summons anymore.
He was in his office and there was a whore seated across his lap when I walked in. I couldn’t stop my lips from turning down into a frown. I knew he noticed me but he made no move to send the whore away.I saw him trail his hand higher up her skirt and she made a high-pitched sound that reminded me of a screeching cat.
“You sent for me,” my voice dripped with annoyance and he finally looked up at me.
“We will finish this later,” he whispered to the whore and she giggled before standing up. As she walked out, she winked at me and I couldn’t help the disgusted shudder that ran down my body.
“Was there a reason for this?” I asked and he nodded.
“It is about Brittany,” he began slowly. “Ever since you mated with her, she has been acting weird. Is there a certain reason for it?” I stayed silent. “I expect an answer, Blake.”
“I don’t know what is wrong with Brittany but if you let me go then I can find out. There isn’t much I can do from here.”
“I guess you have a point,” he waved me off and I made my way to the door. My hand was on the knob when he called out to me. “If I find out that you did anything to my daughter, you will regret it.”
I didn’t bother responding, I just made my way out of the office and turned to the closest guard. “Find Brittany and have her come to my room.”
It took a few minutes for Brittany to appear and when she did, I could feel the fear and unease seeping from her body. She had barely shut the door before my hand whipped out and slapped her across the cheek. She fell to the floor from the force of the hit and she stared up at me like she didn’t recognize me anymore.
“What did I tell you about your father finding out?” I asked and she swallowed. “You will tell me exactly what you told him.”
“I didn’t tell him anything,” she cried. “I don’t know why you are doing this. I thought we were partners.”
“Partners?” I scoffed. “You were just using me to get to Amelia. You never cared about me. I was just a pawn in your game, wasn’t I?” I asked and she nodded becauseI was forcing her to tell the truth. “Why do you hate her so much?”
“Please, don’t,” she forced out. “He will kill me if he realizes I have told you.”
That only captured my interest more and the corner of my lips pulled up as I tugged harder on the bond. She let out a sound that resembled a moan of pain and I could see the pleading in her eyes but I ignored it.
“You better make sure that he doesn’t find out you told me,” I warned. “Why do you both hate her?”
I could see her trying to fight it but it was too strong for her. Tears streamed down her cheeks and she fell to her knees as she tried to fight the pain.
“Don’t make this any harder on yourself, Brittany, tell me what I want to know,” I reached forward and stroked her cheek. “You want to be a good girl, don’t you?”she nodded. “I promise I will make it all stop if you tell me.”
She sniffled and her next words shocked me to my core.“Amelia isn’t my father’s daughter.”
