My time was reducing. I could feel it. It was a wrong move to ignore Alpha Xander, to not acknowledge his presence.

'What should we do?" Ash asked pacing in front of me. His frantic movement calmed me.

Seeing Leila was a shock, she was glowing. I almost could not recognize her, her aura was different, stronger, more intense.


'There's nothing we can do. Running away will make us look guilty."

'I still don't know why we didn't go and greet them. Can't we go now?"


'I'm afraid that is too late."

I jumped from my chair and Ash pulled me behind him, growling at the owner of the voice that had materialized from thin air.

It was a woman.

She calmly sat in the chair I just left and stared at us. I didn't see her with Alpha Xander's people. Was she one of Antonio's sorcerers? What did she want?

'Sonia Romanov, it's a pleasure to meet you. Forgive me, I don't know the name of the man before you."

Ash stopped growling because her aura wasn't hostile and stared at her, trying to figure out her purpose for visiting.

'Although you were the one who took care of the pack, you didn't come to pay respect to your Alpha. Why?"

So, she was with Alpha Xander.

'I apologize" I said, stepping out from behind Ash. 'The Alpha and I didn't part on a good note. I was afraid he would kill me like he killed the traitors."

'Did you help the traitors?"

'No…" I trailed off, giving her the opportunity to introduce herself.

'Then why are you afraid? Was the Alpha a tyrant before he left?" she asked instead.

'No…" she raised an eyebrow waiting for me to explain. It had been a long time since I felt like this when talking to someone, it's like she held all the cards and I know nothing to say.

'My daughter was the person who had Leila kidnapped."

'Oh? The daughter you had with Antonio?"

I froze, how did she know? Who is she?!

'What?!" Ash asked, looking at me like I was a stranger.

'What does she mean beta?"

'Ash…"

'Explain!" he growled. It was clear that he was holding his rage in check.

'Antonio was my mate a long time ago but he didn't treat me right." I began meeting his gaze. I willed my voice to be firm. 'So, I ran with our baby in my stomach and had her here."

'Did Beta Carlson know?"

I glanced away, 'no…"

Ash took a deep breath, 'why didn't you tell me? Was he blackmailing you?"

'No, I don't have anything he needs. He didn't contact me all these years."

'And if you had something he wanted? Will you give him?"

'No…" I met his gaze again, '... I won't."

'I'm going to need some space" he said and walked away.

'Ash…" I called stopping him before he left.

'Don't worry, your secret is safe with me." He shut the door behind me, leaving me alone with this strange woman.

I really didn't want to loose his friendship, his support. I had grown used to his presence beside me, aiding me through out this whole period. He didn't even know that Amelia was dead yet the next day, he asked me to rest. He would take care of everything.

'Is he to be your new mate slippery one?" the woman asked.

I narrowed my eyes.

'Who are you?"

'There's no need to bother your brain about it. We have never met before now."

'Yet, you seem to know things you shouldn't. Are you from my birth pack?"

'No. I am Hera, a simple volana wolf."

What?!

She couldn't be lying. While her aura wasn't hostile, I couldn't place it in any category of things I had felt or sensed before.

'How? They are…we were taught that your kind has been wiped off…"

'I assure you, I am not a spirit."

'What do you want? What do you want from me?"

'Alpha Xander has gone to kill Antonio, I was charged with watching over the village and assessing you."

So, this is how he intends to go about this. Alpha Xander wants to know my intentions and where my alliance lies.

'So, what is my assessment?"

'Will you be a problem to the pack?" she asked.

'Never."

'Then we don't have a problem. I advise that you pay respect to the Alpha when he returns. Your disrespect will not be overlooked no matter your relationship with the Luna."

'Luna?"

Did someone else come with Alpha Xander?

'You are the stepmother of Leila, are you not?"

'I am."

Realization dawned on me. Leila was Luna, that would mean she could recognize her mate and her connection with her wolf was normal, like the rest of us.

'Given that I will be mated to her brother, I would say that makes us family. Regardless of your past decisions, you really did a great job managing the pack. For that, you have the Alpha's gratitude."

'Thank you."

'As for the man although he is way too young for you, you can keep him by your side. This time, it won't be like you normally do. You must tell him about your true nature or else let him go."

I furrowed my brows in confusion. This has never happened before, why is it happening now?

'Whatever you choose to do with this information is up to you, just remember that there are consequences to every action."

Hera got up, 'we are leaving here with the pack members. You have the choice to follow or not."

'Okay. Thank you for giving me the freedom to choose."

'Good night Sonia Romanov."

'Wait" I said stopping her from leaving.

'My daughter…who killed her? I know that you're aware that she's dead. I want to know who killed her."

'I can not answer that but I can tell you that we all were present when she died."

'What?"
