I woke up early the next morning. The room was quiet, the curtains still drawn, and a soft golden light seeped in from the cracks. I lay still for a while, my hands rested gently on my growing belly. My baby, our baby and I ran my fingers over the small curve, smiling softly.
As I sat up in bed, I remembered everything from last night. The proposal, Hades on one knee and the beautiful setting.
My heart beating fast, my emotions tangled. And then I walked away. Saying no, his face looked in his eyes and It still flashed in my mind and I felt bad, but I had to do it. I wasn't ready.
I headed to the bathroom, washed my face, and looked in the mirror. My eyes were puffy. I didn't sleep much. All night, I kept thinking about him.
About the way he looked at me. His eyes, his voice and the way he always puts me and the baby first. He never missed a day dropping flowers and fruits and sweet notes in my house and even when I pushed him away.
I sighed deeply.
At exactly 8:00 AM, I heard the knock. The soft, familiar knock. I walked to the door, my heart rang slightly. I peeked through the peephole and it was him.
Hades was holding a bouquet of fresh white lilies and a small basket. As usual. He looked calm and his eyes held a quiet sadness and chest tightened.
I opened the door slowly.
"Good morning," he said with a small smile and he looked straight into my eyes.
"Good morning," I replied, softer than I intended.
He stretched his hand, offering the flowers. "These are for you and our baby."
I took them and inhaled the fresh scent. They smelt like comfort and hope.
He looked like he wanted to say something more, but instead he sighed and turned to leave.
"Wait," I say.
He stopped.
"Can I... can I have a hug?"
He turned back quickly, almost surprised. His eyes softened and without a word, he walked towards me, and I stepped into his arms.
The hug was warm, strong and familiar. I felt safe there and he held me gently, like I might break. My face rested against his chest and his heart was beating fast.
We stayed like that for a while and were silent.
Then, slowly, I pulled away. "Thank you," I whispered.
He nodded. "Anytime." And Then he walked away.
Later in the day, I sat in my office, and sipped warm tea. Rita walked in quickly with her phone in her hand.
"Jane, you have to see this!"
"What is it?"
She shows me the screen. It was a news headline Hades Group Hits Second Position on Business Charts After Jane Grande Inc.
My eyes widened. I blinked a few times, taking it in. There was a photo of Hades in a smart navy suit, shaking hands at a conference and another showing their recent project making waves in the tech world.
"He did it," I say, almost to myself.
"Yes," Rita grinned. "He really did."
Pride welled up in my chest and I smiled slowly, and looked at his photo. He looked strong and confident, like a real leader.
He had come so far.
The rest of the day, I couldn't focus.and my thoughts keep going back to him. His gentle knock, his hug, his eyes and I scrolled through the headlines again and again, reading all the praise.
That evening, I sat on the couch in my living room. My phone rested on my belly. I type slowly, thinking carefully before hitting send.
'Hades, come back quick this evening. I want you beside me, every evening"
I stared at the message for a moment, then pressed send.
My heart races. I close my eyes, waiting.
Seconds later, the reply comes.
'I will be there. Always."
And for the first time in a long time, I felt calm and I felt complete.
Hades POV
The moment I saw Jane's message, my heart skipped a beat. She wanted me beside her this evening and that's all I need to drop everything.
I told my assistant to handle the rest of my meetings and didn't even wait to finish my coffee. I rushed out of the office and into my car, all my thoughts were filled with Jane.
As I drove my mind spinned and couldn't believe how much I had changed. It was not long ago, she didn't even want to see me and now she was asking me to be with her, even if it was just in the evenings. I wouldn't mess this up.
When I arrived at her house, I knocked gently. The door opened and there she was, Jane.
Her smile lit up the whole place and she was wearing a soft, light blue dress that made her glow. Her tummy was now round and showing and our baby was growing and I felt proud and emotional at the same time.
She said "You came fast."
I smiled, "I couldn't wait."
She stepped aside and she allowed me in. We moved to the living room and she sat close beside me. I can smell her perfume, it was soft, sweet, and calming.
She started talking about her day, and we began to laugh and I made a few silly jokes about how I tried to cook something earlier and burned it, and she burst into laughter.
Her laughter was like music to my ears. It has been too long since I heard her laugh like this.
I kept talking, and saying anything I could to make her laugh again and she did, over and over. Her face lit up every time.
Then suddenly, she got quiet and she turned to face me, and her eyes held something deeper. Something warm. Something longing.
She reached out, gently placing her hand on mine. My breath caught and then she leaned in and kissed me, it was soft, slow, and full of feelings.
I froze for a second and was surprised. But I responded and I kissed her back, gently.
When we stopped, she looked into my eyes and whispered, "Make love to me."
I blinked and my heart started racing. "Are you sure, Jane?"
She nodded slowly. "Yes. I want you. I want this."
We didn't rush and everything was gentle, filled with emotion.
We held each other like we have been waiting a lifetime for this and no words were needed, it was just touch, just closeness and just us.
Afterwards, we lay in silence. She was resting her head on my chest and I held her close, and listened to her heartbeat.
The moment was quiet and beautiful and she smiled and looked up at me, and said, "That was amazing. You can do that all the time."
I chuckled softly and kissed her forehead. "I will never stop loving you, Jane."
She didn't answer, but her smile said it all.
That night, we didn't talk much and we just stayed close. Two people who were once broken, slowly finding peace in each other.
And I knew, this wasn't just co-parenting anymore, this was something deeper. Maybe even love.
