Jane's POV

Every morning eventually became very special to me. I would wake up early and walk slowly to my living room window.

My heart would beat fast, very fast and my eyes would stay on the CCTV screen. I would watch him. The same man who once made me cry, who once hurt me deeply, was coming to my house every single day and he never missed a day.

He would walk to my gate, he would carry fresh flowers, fruits, chocolates, and a small card and he always wore a simple shirt and clean trousers, and he looked so handsome.

Sometimes, the wind would blow gently and move his hair and he would smile just a little before he turned to go and that small smile would stay in my mind all day.

At first, I ignored it and I told myself it didn't mean anything. I said, "It is just for the baby and he is doing it for the child."

However, deep inside, I was waiting for it every day.

The moment he left, I would walk out slowly and pick up the things. I would read the note card. Every single card had kind words. "You will deliver safely." "We can't wait to meet our bundle of joy." "Stay strong." "Eat well for the baby."

I didn't throw the cards away. I always kept them on the table in my sitting room.

My tummy was growing now and I could feel the baby kick sometimes and I would smile to myself and hold my belly gently.

I whispered to the baby, "You are loved. Even your father loves you."

One day, when I saw Hades leaving as usual, I felt something move in my heart and I stood by the door, I took a deep breath, and opened it.

"Hades," I said.

He stopped walking and turned back, slowly, with a surprised look on his face.

"Come in," I said.

He walked in, quietly, not saying much. He looked into my eyes, and I looked into his and he dropped the flowers gently and stood still.

"Jane," he said softly. "Thank you for letting me in."

I sat down on the couch and he sat across from me and there was silence for a while.

"I wanted to say I am sorry again," he said. "I know I hurt you and I did many wrong things. I knew I could never take them back. However, I just want to say sorry again."

I looked at him. My eyes became wet, but I didn't cry.

"I have fully forgiven you, Hades," I said. "It took time, but I did it."

He nodded. "Thank you, Jane. That means more than anything to me."

I continued, "You don't have to drop things at the gate anymore, you can come in every morning. But only as the father of this child not as anything more."

He looked down. Then up again. "Can we co-parent?" he asked. "Can we take care of the baby together? Not as lovers, just as mother and father."

I thought for a moment, then said, "Yes. We can co-parent, but remember, Hades, there will be no love between us. I don't want that."

He nodded again. "I understand. That's okay with me. I just want to be in the child's life."

So, we started co-parenting in private. Every morning, he would come inside with the gifts. We would talk about the baby, what I was eating, how I was feeling.

He brought books about pregnancy and baby names. He made me laugh sometimes. He didn't talk about love, and I didn't talk about the past.

Even though I said there would be no love, my heart felt light when he came around. The house didn't feel lonely anymore. And I started looking forward to mornings, not just for the baby, but for Hades too.

Still, I reminded myself every day, this was just co-parenting and nothing more.

But deep inside, I didn't know what my heart truly wanted anymore.

Hades POV

I was so glad when Jane finally accepted that we could co-parent. I had waited so long to hear those words from her.

Even though she said it was only co-parenting and not love, I still felt very happy. At least I could see her and the baby every day. That was more than enough for me.

From that day, I started going to Jane's house every morning and every evening after work. It became my daily routine. In the morning, I would pass by with fresh fruits, flowers, and sometimes cute baby things like toys or little clothes.

Jane would always be waiting quietly. She never said it, but I could see it in her eyes. She liked my visits.

Every evening after work, I would go again. I made it a habit to ensure we had dinner together. I paid a cooking company to take care of our dinner.

Every evening, one of their waitresses would come and set a sweet dinner table in Jane's house.

The table was always filled with soft music, sweet candles, warm lights, and delicious food. It was like a dream, every single day.

Jane slowly started to smile more. She laughed sometimes when I made jokes. She would touch her stomach and talk about our baby.

My heart melted each time. Even if there was no love, I felt like we were building something strong.

One evening, the dinner table was already set. The waitress had done her job and left. The smell of the food was sweet. The soft lights were already on, and Jane and I sat beside each other.

We were about to start eating. That night, everything felt special. It was one of those nights I thought would stay perfect forever.

Then suddenly, the doorbell rang.

Jane looked confused. She wasn't expecting anyone. We had agreed it was just the two of us that evening.

She stood up slowly and walked gently to the door. She looked through the small camera hole and then opened the door.

I heard her voice softly say, "Emily?"

My heart stopped.

Emily? Did I hear that right?

My ears rang. My heart beat fast. My hands started shaking a little. Since I came out from prison, I had never seen Emily. I didn't know where she went.

Jane never mentioned her much. I thought she was far away and had nothing to do with our lives anymore.

Why was she here now?

Was she coming to break everything I was building with Jane?

Did she want to bring back old pain?

My spirit instantly left my body. It was like my soul jumped out and ran away.
