Nathan's Point of View

I sat alone in my car across from her building, and I gripped the steering wheel so hard that it made my knuckles white. It has been almost two years since she refused to accept me back. Since I broke everything we built with one stupid mistake.

I watched the revolving doors, hoping to catch a glimpse of her and my heart rang, not from fear, but from a deep aching that I needed to fix what I destroyed.

Every day, the headlines talked about her. Jane Grande. The woman I once called my wife, the woman I took for granted

She has been one powerful and untouchable, but I remembered the way she used to laugh at my terrible jokes, how she used to fall asleep on my shoulder while we watched movies. Those memories were all I have left.

I ruined us, I knew that and I betrayed her.

But now I want her back.

I have thought about this for months and I have rehearsed every word. I have cleaned up my act, got sober and I am now hiding in the shadows.

I checked my watch and it was 6:15 p.m.

Jane usually leaves around 6:30. I saw her last week by accident during a conference. She didn't notice me. Or maybe she did and just ignored me. Either way, I couldn't get over how different she looked. She looked sharper, colder and stronger.

I pressed the button on my phone and my message is still unread.

'Nathan, you need to let it go," my friend Mark told me last week. 'She's not the same Jane anymore. She's moved on. Maybe you should too."

Move on?

How do you move on from the only woman who ever loved you unconditionally?

She stepped out of the building and my heart stopped.

She was in a black coat, her hair swept up into a bun and she walked like she always does when she was trying to avoid people.

She looked tired or maybe I was imagining that. Her bodyguard walked a few steps behind her.

I took a deep breath, grabbed the bouquet of white lilies from the passenger seat, and got out of the car.

'Jane!" I called.

She froze mid-step and her back went stiff.

Her bodyguard moved forward immediately and Jane turned slowly, her eyes met mine. It was cold and sharp.

'Nathan," she said, her voice was flat.

'What do you want?"

'I just wanted to talk." I held out the flowers like they meant anything.

Her bodyguard looked at her and waited for her signal. She lifted one hand to stop him.

'I don't want flowers," she said 'I want peace."

'I know I messed up. I know that. But can we just., please, talk for five minutes?"

She sighed. 'Fine. Five minutes" and then she waved to her bodyguard to wait in the car.

We walked a few steps away from the entrance and my palms were sweaty, my voice shook.

'I have changed, Jane. I swear. I started therapy. I got clean and built something small, but it's growing. I have been trying every day to become the man I should have been when I had you."

She listened in silence.

'I know I hurt you, but I miss you, every day. I miss waking up beside you and I miss hearing you talk about your dreams. I miss being your husband."

She looked away.

Then she said something that shattered me.

'I'm pregnant." I blinked

'What?"

'I'm pregnant. And before you ask, "The father is Hades."

Hades? That arrogant snake?

I felt the blood drain from my face. My stomach twisted and My hands curled into fists.

'You! you slept with Hades?"

Her face tightened. 'That's none of your business. I didn't sleep with him willingly. It was complicated. It doesn't matter now."

'Then why are you telling me this?"

'Because I need you to understand that there's no chance, none, that I am going back to you."

The words cut deep. It was so deep I couldn't breathe.

'I just want to be there for you," I whispered

'You had that chance. You threw it away. And now I am fighting battles you can't even imagine. Alone."

I nodded slowly. 'Goodbye, Nathan."

She turned and walked away.

Her body guards joined her and just like that, she was gone again.

I stood there for a long time and the bouquet fell from my hand.

I watched the white petals hit the concrete.

That was when the rage started to grow, it wasn't the kind that burns, it was the kind that froze.

She thought she could just erase me from her life, like I meant nothing, like I didn't build those early dreams with her, like I wasn't the one who held her when she cried about failing her first pitch.

If she wants war, then so be it.

I went home and opened my laptop and started looking for a way to get to her. If I can't have her, I will destroy her and make her life unbearable. Either she is mine or I start mapping out a plan.

I will hit her where it hurts, it won't be physically. It will never be that.

But her empire? Her reputation?

Even though I didn't have a hand in it, I will ensure I pulled her and her empire down. I stare at the screen and smile to myself.

'You will regret this, Jane," I whispered.

I picked up my phone and made a quick scroll through my contacts list. And my eyes suddenly cut the line I was looking for.

'Yes. I met her, she even had the guts to tell me she was pregnant for that bastard she sent to jail!" I said and my secret co-company founder was shocked.

'How do we intend to use her now? We need her to build our company that is crumbling, you already knew before now that she was pregnant! You don't need to act surprised" he said and then my brain boots, I still needed that bastard.

'You know what? We need to make plans, we need to get rid of that baby in her tummy first! That way she wouldn't have a choice but to come back to me"

'Perfect Nathan! Now you are talking"
