Jane's POV

'Hello." My voice was mild and gentle.

'Hello, Miss Jane. I asked that we meet today but you didn't show up. What could be the problem?" Francis asked softly. His heart seemed broken into pieces.

That reminded me of my schedule for yesterday. ‘Gosh.' I hit my hand on my forehead. Due to where my heart was, I had forgotten I had a meeting with Francis.

'I am really sorry about that. Let us reschedule the appointment." I spoke with brittled voice.

'Okay." Just after he responded, my phone started vibrating. I knew it was a call from another person.

I removed my phone from my ear and I checked the incoming call… ‘Who do we have here?' As that echoed in my head, my eyes widened when I saw it was a call from General Gaza.

‘I think he won.' As I gave that a thought, I picked the call. 'Hello, what's the update?" I asked him. My heart raced against my chest slowly.

'We have successfully defeated the enemy. But we had to kill their leader." He broke the news.

Hearing that news helped to quench my thirst for revenge. At least, my cousin even though the life my cousin lived wasn't pleasing, I am happy he got the justice he deserved.

I puffed out a heavy breath and glared at the face of my driver who was seated beside me. I stood on my feet.

'Are you going inside?" My driver asked me. And I nodded my head softly…

'Good night, ma'am." He said and I half-smiled. I walked gently to my house and laid softly there.

The next day, I opened my eyes after a long sleep. Heavy breath escaped my nostrils and I cleared my eyes from the blur.

'Doorbell rings…!' ‘Who could be at the door?' I thought in my head while I gazed at the door leading to the sitting room.

I felt slightly lazy to rush and check on the door. This could have been the maid if I had one. ‘I really need a maid.' it echoed in my mind very clearly. I walked down to the door with my night dress and I opened it.

Right before me was General Gaza dressed in the army uniform. His unique dress sense flashed in my face and my jaw dropped slowly.

General Gaze also froze whenje gazed at me from head to toe. I do not know what he was looking at. But I could tell, he had lustful thoughts in his mind.

I cleared my throat. 'Good morning, General." I half-smiled and greeted him respectfully.

He snapped out of the untrue reality that he was. 'Good morning to you, Miss Jane. Can I come in?" I had kept him waiting for a while outside and that was the reason he was prompted to ask me that question.

'My bad!" I arch my eyebrows when I echoed those words in embarrassment. He wasn't the one that should remind me of letting him in. 'Please come in." I stood aside and General Gaza walked inside the sitting room.

I closed the door behind me and I came to sit in the sitting room. 'General Gaza, I am very happy with the way you came through for me. I should be the one to come and thank you specially and not the other way round." I spoke with appreciation.

'You can still come to appreciate me afterwards. I just wanted to appreciate you putting your trust in me" He half-smiled and caressed each palm against the other.

‘Why Isn't he convenient?' I thought in my head with the gesture he was exhibiting. I knew he came for something other than just appreciation.

'You do not need to appreciate me, sir. Would you like a coffee?" I asked him. Maybe that would have made him convenient. I thought it might be the stress.

'No, thank you. I will soon be on my way." He paused for a while and he gazed directly into my eyes.

I knew he wanted something and I shrank my face with attentive ears.

'Can… Can you do me a favour?" Tension was in his voice as he asked.

'Okay. As long as it's not illegal. What is it?" I was curious to know what a general like him would want.

He sighed. 'Please, do not take this as an offence. My sister complained that the salary your company is offering her is too small compared to the work she does every now and then. She confided in me that she needed a raise. Can you do that for me?" General Gaza asked. His eyes peered into mine.

I sucked my tongue in silence and I relaxed backwards on my chair. I reminded myself of the amount I have been paying her since the commencement of the company. ‘The amount I pay her is enough. But because of General Gaza, I will make her wish come through.'

When I was silent for about a minute. General Gaza was forced to speak. 'I know it might not go well with you. Please, do not let her lose her job. She warned me not to tell you. But I just felt it might be right to let you know. If you are not okay with it, please, do not think any further about the request." He spoke humbly.

And I stared at him with surprise. ‘Such humility for a General in the army. I always heard they are proud, but this man is different.' My heart melted at his words. I exhaled slowly.

'General Gaza, you went out of your way just to get justice for my brother. Although, I thought the amount I paid her was satisfactory enough. Now, that you call my attention to it… I will raise her pay as you've requested." I half-smiled after responding to him.

His lips curved with a smile. 'You are really a very nice lady and I am happy you are considered a commoner like me." He expressed with satisfaction.

But his words tickled me and I laughed slowly. 'You are being sarcastic right now. You are a General in the army and not some commoner."

'Thank you so much. I will get going now." He said and he stood on his feet. I saw him out of the house.

And by the time I returned back inside my room.

My phone beeped aloud… ‘What's with the beep?'
