If in the previous chapter Luana had frowned, then now the frown was slowly fading away, replaced with an uncomprehending eye roll.
There was silence for a while before the woman finally shook her head quickly.
"I don't understand," she said irritably. "What do you mean, I can't understand it all."
Rey almost laughed, but managed to hold it in until it ended at the edge of his lips. The wind was still blowing softly, sending a chill through the air that instead of chilling the skin, made it even more romantic.
"You know, Luana," Rey took over. "For some reason in that moment, all I could think about was one thing."
"One thing? What was that? Coming over and raping me, is that it?!" There was still a clear hint of annoyance in Luana's tone. Either because she was annoyed because she had previously praised Rey who was said to be good at telling stories but she ended up not understanding, or annoyed because it turned out that her brain was unable to connect it all because the night was too late.
Alah. Your excuse, Luana.
"Hey, no it's not," Rey quickly denied. The laughter he had been holding in was now in the air as well, which finally spurred Luana to widen her eyes. "No, I mean, that's not entirely true, honey. Who raped you, huh? You're my wife, right?"
Luana was silent. She felt like opening her voice in defense, because that was the impression she got from the other night. Didn't Rey force her. Without even foreplay! What the hell.
"I did force... a little." Rey's voice came back before Luana managed to reply, which then made the woman can only glare. Pretending to be annoyed. "But, going back to my dream, I deduced one thing from the three words the little boy said to me."
"You haven't seen her face yet?"
"Patience, not yet," Rey sighed. "I don't know how I came to that conclusion, but the three words he said really sounded ambiguous. Do-this-night. What do you think you're doing, Luana?"
A small mosquito had just landed on Luana's cardigan-covered arm, which made her move quickly to ward it off with her hand. Unfortunately, the mosquito managed to escape with a deadly swat.
"I don't know," Luana said with her eyes still looking around. Looking for where the mosquito was moving, maybe. "Maybe it's telling you to repent, Rey. You just drank a lot of alcohol before you lost consciousness."
This time Rey's laughter burst out without him being able to contain it, which of course caused noise from the direction of the quiet garden. Not even the nobleman realized that his voice had just penetrated the walls of the mansion, waking up the person whose room was closest to the garden.
"Hey!" Luana warned with a stifled exclamation. "You're having so much fun, for heaven's sake! What if someone wakes up?" The woman kept her voice low, not wanting to add to the loud noise her husband had just made.
And Luana's guess turned out to be correct, for a few minutes later Markus appeared, sprinting. The butler seemed to have woken up from sleep and left the room immediately, because he was only wearing a T-shirt and casual shorts. His clothes also looked rumpled.
"Sir!" exclaimed Markus with a sudden halt in his steps, for what was unfolding before him was not what he thought it would be. "Are you okay?"
Rey widened his eyes in disbelief, just as he turned his head to meet Markus' gaze.
"Of course, Markus. Sorry to wake you up, but nothing happened," Rey widened his smile. Moving his hand in the air to signal Markus to go back to rest, the man continued. "Go back to sleep, Markus. Ah yes, and please 'sterilize' this garden."
Markus frowned for a moment, but then he immediately bent down to do as his master instructed. "Yes, Master. I take my leave."
Luana could only grimace as the tail of her eyes watched Markus turn and disappear behind the door, as if it was an unwelcome advertisement for their romantic conversation tonight. After all, Luana also felt bad for disturbing someone's sleep.
"Lower your voice, Rey," Luana warned. "Should we go in?"
Rey shook his head in response, as he still wanted to snuggle with his wife a little longer. It seemed that Luana was comfortable in his arms, and he also hadn't finished his story completely.
"Not until I finish my story, honey," Rey said smiling. "You still want to listen, right?"
Leaning back into Rey's embrace, Luana finally nodded slowly.
"Let's continue your story," he pleaded. "So, I guessed right about those three words?"
Rey moved his hand to rub Luana's arm, followed by a shake.
"No, sweetheart. That's not what I understood the little boy to mean," Rey said. The man seemed dreamy now, but a beautiful smile was still printed on his face. "I asked him why it had to be tonight, and he gave me another answer."
Luana looked up. Staring cautiously at Rey.
"Ah, so you asked and answered each other in your dreams, that's the story. What did he answer?"
Rey didn't know if it was just his feelings, but the the more time he spent with his wife, Rey felt that his heart would explode with happiness.
How Luana's intonation asked just now seemed to hypnotize him, because only with Luana could he be this relaxed. Even compared to Beatrice, Luana was much better at maintaining the atmosphere.
"He said I had to do it that night to get him," Rey replied without hesitation. "Do you know what that means now?"
Ouch, what a riddle this guy is, Luana thought to herself.
"Does that mean you have to do something to get the kid?" Luana tried to hypothesize. She seemed to be getting the hang of it. "And it has to be that night?"
This time Rey nodded happily, because Luana had caught the point he was trying to make.
"Do you know why Beatrice left me, Luana?" Rey asked suddenly. The man noticed every detail of the change on his wife's face, just in case the subject of Beatrice would become a sensitive topic between them.
Rey didn't want to say it, but really, that fact
Luana had to know.
"You asked me once when we were on the balcony back in Leipzig," Luana replied, remembering. "And aren't you still trying to figure out the answer to why?"
Rey sighed softly.
"I knew from the beginning," he said. "Beatrice chose to leave, because she didn't want to give offspring to the
Lueic family. She chose to keep herself, when she knew how important having a baby was to my parents."
This time Luana was genuinely surprised. Her pupils dilated, looking in disbelief at Rey for what she had just heard.
Is Beatrice really like that? Ah, is this what Mare meant by me bringing the good news that the entire mansion has been waiting for? That is, to have a baby?
"No way...," Luana sighed under her breath. "Beatrice did that?"
Rey raised his eyebrows, convincing Luana of the reason why her fiancé had disappeared on the day of the wedding. But it was also something that Rey was grateful for later on, because he got a much better replacement.
"Therefore, I thought that night was the night where I had to do that," Rey continued. Now
the dream began to connect one by one. "To get him --that little boy-- I had to sleep with a woman."
Luana fell silent, choosing to bite her lip because her feelings were starting to become chaotic.
Noticing the change in his wife's expression, Rey moved to sit up straighter. Holding his hand Luana's hand that was starting to feel cold with the fading light, he didn't want her to misunderstand.
"So, just because-"
"Because that woman is you, Luana," Rey cut in before his wife could infer anything. The man's answer reflexively made Luana raise her head, which had chosen to look down due to the sadness that had invaded.
"Me?"
"Yes, you." Rey took Luana's hand and gave it a peck on the back. "Right before the boy waved goodbye, you turned to me. Your shady face in that dream is still there today, sweetheart."
Luana fell silent again, just as her heart was about to leap. Rey was a specialist like this.
Making it almost difficult to breathe, just by his words that sounded so convincing and magical to the ears.
"From the beginning, you've been in my dreams, Luana," Rey said again. "And if you think I intend to replace you with Beatrice, then you are sadly mistaken."
The pounding of the heart intensified, with two pairs of eyes locked on each other.
"You will never be replaced, even if Beatrice comes and possibly messes up like she did yesterday," Rey again said, making Luana almost completely lose consciousness. "Because I chose you a long time ago."
