The soft night breeze made Luana pull her cardigan over her body.
Patricia had just come out of the room that Luana shared with Rey, after spending a long time talking to her daughter-in-law. She said she wanted girl time, so Rey and Ryan were not allowed to enter and join.
So Rey chose to sip coffee with his father in the downstairs family room, before finally Ryan complained of sleepiness and chose to enter the guest room. The room he had been sharing with his wife for the past few days, during their visit to Munich.
Madam Collins and Beatrice's business seemed to have come to an easy end, as Ryan had bagged the deal that the Lueic family had been hoping for. And that news, indeed, was happy news for Luana and Rey, who could now truly live as husband and wife without worrying about Luana's status.
Luana was no longer under the rights of Madam Collins, Luana was no longer a servant in the mansion.
Ryan Lueic took over everything, and has made sure the Collins family will never show up to bother Luana. No matter what the reason.
And so it was that after her mother-in-law came out of the room after jointly putting on a mask, Luana now circled the entire mansion in search of her husband. She knocked on the door of Rey's study, but did not find him there.
Until her long legs led her to the back garden, Luana smiled when she saw the silhouette of a man she recognized sitting on a swing.
It was Rey, with cigarette smoke wafting from his lips.
Sliding the sliding door, Luana was surprised by the breeze, which felt very cold. Thankfully, she was wearing a cardigan to layer over her thin sundress, as the woman stepped softly and then stroked Rey's shoulder from behind.
"There you are."
Rey turned his head and smiled widely when he found the woman he loved right in front of him. Looking at Luana's face, which always looked beautiful, the man hung a smile.
"Hey," he greeted back. "You're not asleep yet?"
Luana shifted to take a sitting position right next to Rey, lifting her dress reflexively when her foot stepped up. Rey spontaneously shifted his sitting position, to let Luana into his outstretched arms.
"Not yet," Luana said as she sat next to her husband. "Mom just came back to the room, I thought you were still chatting with dad."
The nobleman was just about to take another drag on his cigarette when he suddenly realized that he was no longer alone. Luana had never asked him to quit smoking, but now Rey remembered what he had read on the internet some time ago.
Cigarette smoke is harmful to pregnant women and babies.
So immediately Rey dropped the cigarette butt down, then stepped on it with the house slippers he was wearing. Not only that, he even dispelled the lingering smoke by waving both hands in the air.
"What are you doing?" Luana's brow furrowed as she looked at Rey.
"Me?" Rey was still waving his hands. "Trying to be a good father to our child."
The answer then made Luana gape, unable to believe what she had just heard. How could waving a hand make someone a good father?
Come on, Luana. Don't be a dick about it.
"I don't want you to breathe in cigarette smoke," Rey explained without his wife asking. "I read on the internet that it's not good for you or our child. Come here."
Spreading his arms wider, Rey welcomed Luana who was now inching closer. Holding his wife in a situation like this, it turns out to be romantic too. The sky above was dark, but there were some stars that flickered although not many.
And that, indeed, was enough for both of them.
"Ah, I see," Luana murmured with her head resting against Rey's broad chest. As usual, the scent of the man's perfume wafted across her senses, but this time Luana could inhale the remnants of nicotine from there. Looking up, Luana looked at the sky.
"There are a lot of stars tonight, Rey," she said in a happy tone. "It feels good, don't you think?"
Rey, who had not been paying attention to the sky at all, finally raised his head to look at the object that his wife was looking at. His bluish bead met the small light of the stars up there, as he moved closer to kiss the top of Luana's head.
"That star up there is just like you, Luana," Rey said later. "It shines, it illuminates, and it looks beautiful. Just like you."
Luana smiled a little, as she was getting used to the words of praise Rey kept throwing at her. The man really didn't need to tell the world the feelings he had, because just by the way he looked at his wife, people could already see there were millions of tons of love there.
"Really?" Luana said. "You're getting better at flirting, Rey."
"Hey, I'm not like that," Rey retorted quickly. He didn't accept his talent for complimenting her as flirting, because that's what Luana was like in his eyes.
"You came and lit up my life, Luana," said Rey who now took one of his wife's hands to hold. "Sometimes, I still can't believe we're together like this. I thought it would be hard at first, but thankfully love helped it all happen."
Luana seemed to nod slowly. Rey's grip on her hand felt warm, pushing away the chill that the wind had caused.
"I still feel like this is all a dream too," Luana murmured between smiles. "I never thought I would marry you, then have children together. Living comfortably like this, I don't even have to worry about my status."
Luana turned her head to stare at Rey's face, who also seemed to return her wife's gaze. The two pairs of eyeballs interlocked, as Rey and Luana truly saw only the reflection of their faces in their partner's eyes.
"Now everything will be fine," Rey said reassuringly. "We're going to live a happy life, we're going to live with children that color our days, and I'm going to make sure you don't have to worry about anything."
Luana leaned forward to give Rey a quick peck on the lips, which looked disappointed because she had just intended to lick those pink lips. But it was okay, a peck was enough. After all, they had plenty of time to just nibble later.
"How about we exchange secrets, Rey?" Luana offered with a suddenly enthusiastic voice intonation. "You haven't heard about my secret before I met you, right? Do you still want to know?"
Rey remembered that he had asked Luana to tell him how she lived before they met, but Luana had refused. She didn't want to share that with Rey because she thought they would become strangers later, but not anymore. Weren't they going to live together until the end of the story?
"You're going to tell me about it?" Rey was just as interested. "So, we exchange secrets, is that it?"
Luana nodded her head quickly, too quickly for Rey to worry that his wife's head would fall off. "Come on. Is there a secret you want to share with me?"
Rey seemed to think for a moment, now letting the silence and Luana's gaze envelop him.
"All right," Rey said then. "Promise me you won't be surprised when you hear my secret."
Luana nodded again. "Tell me!"
Rey's eyeballs rolled slowly, followed by a sudden smile.
"Actually...."
Luana waited, blinking impatiently.
"Actually... "Rey hung up his sentence. "I wasn't completely drunk when we were by the beach that time."
And that one sentence succeeded in taking Luana by surprise, with her eyeballs almost popping out.
What was this guy talking about?!
