"So, which one do you want?"
Rey's question had been asked almost three times. But the person asked still shook his head uncertainly, not knowing what to answer.
Not spending a long time in Der Beste's building, Rey and Luana were only asked to complete some registration forms.
Valerie also handed them a piece of paper containing their agenda for the next month, saying that the next meeting would be held at the end of this week.
After saying goodbye to Valerie and Pedro who chose to stay behind, Rey finally drove his car to one of the magnificent shopping centers in their city.
Just as he had planned, the nobleman would buy a cell phone for his wife. And now there they were, in one of the communication equipment stores that provided so many latest cell phones.
Various models and brands were displayed, along with a salesperson who had accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Lueic since they entered the magnificent store.
But Luana was grimacing softly now.
The lineup of cell phones with the most up-to-date technology seemed ready to be adopted by her, it was just that she really had a hard time choosing which one really suited her needs.
Not to mention when her eyes fell on the price tag, which immediately made her almost fall weak. Drawing closer to Rey, Luana whispered very softly so that what she said would not be heard by the salesperson standing right behind them.
"Uhm, that's..." Luana whispered under her breath.
"Which one do you want?" With two hands linked behind his body, the man turned his head.
"Look, sir," Luana still lowered her voice. "Why don't we just go ahead and buy it?"
Rey looked surprised by Luana's request, indicated by the frown that appeared on his forehead.
"Why, nothing you like?" Rey asked probingly. "Well, let's go to another store."
Just as the man was about to take Luana's hand back, at the same time the young woman also held her husband's hand. Followed by her bead twisting doubtfully.
"Uhm, that's not it. It's just that... I don't know which one to choose. Besides, the price is too..."
Luana could not finish her sentence, now that Rey had gently patted the back of her hand. Maybe both of them didn't realize, but lately it seemed like they had become more comfortable with skinship with each other.
"Then, choose the same one as me," Rey suggested.
Reaching into his pants pocket to pull out his cell phone from inside, he shook the device in front of Luana. "You can choose a different color, or a similar color like mine is fine too."
Luana still bit her lip hesitantly, not knowing if the cell phone would be useful to her later. Because she had never owned a cell phone. Moreover, she also didn't have someone she had to contact regularly.
Luana's silence was taken by Rey as a sign of agreement, as he now took her hand gently as his body turned to face the salesman.
"Give me a phone like this," he asked, showing her his. "Do you have any other color options?"
The salesman noticed the series and brand of Rey's phone, before smiling and nodding. "There are still two colors available, sir. White and black," he said, getting up from where he was.
"Do you want the white one?" Rey asked Luana, who was still silent. "Or just black so it looks elegant like mine?"
Luana seemed to consider for a moment, until the salesman brought two cellphones of different colors. Choosing for a moment, Luana finally spoke softly.
"Just the black one."
Rey smiled happily and headed back towards the salesperson. "We'll buy this one," he pointed to a black cell phone.
"Yes, sir. Please wait."
"As well as registering the cell phone number, can you?"
The other employee took over as the salesman prepared Rey's order, nodding firmly with the same bright smile. "Can be arranged, sir."
Luana could be heard exhaling softly, not really knowing if she deserved the phone or not. Who would she call? Would it be Valerie? Because that was the only cell phone number she had on the business card Rouletta had given her.
Waiting for a while, Luana and Rey did not let go of their handshake. Looking around at another collection of cell phones, Rey unconsciously pulled Luana to follow his lead.
After a while, the salesman approached again, handing over the registered cell phone with the screen on.
"Please, sir."
Rey smiled briefly at Luana, before taking the phone. Scrolling through the screen, Rey smiled with satisfaction.
"Come here." Again approaching Luana, Rey had already opened an application.
Luana turned her head. Finding that the screen of the cellphone held by Rey now displayed her beautiful face, Luana blinked several times.
"This phone has the best front camera of any other series," Rey suddenly explained. "You won't be disappointed with the quality of the camera. Now, try to smile."
Bringing his head closer to Luana's, Rey unintentionally put his arm around her shoulder. With one hand raised up, the couple both gazed at the cell phone screen.
Luana had a stiff expression on her face at first, but she gradually smiled when Rey showed his teeth first.
The man looked completely different, a far cry from the Rey Luana had met at their wedding.
With a single click, Rey captures a portrait of the two of them which is now their first photo. A photo that shows two faces close together, with a smile even though it looks faint.
"How is it?" The nobleman lowered one arm, now eyeing their photo with a twinkling bead. "Do you like the camera?"
Luana didn't know what she was thinking, but the smile Rey displayed earlier really left her at a loss for how to react. Especially now, the man also seemed satisfied with the photos they got.
"That's good," Luana commented honestly. It was her first cell phone, and she was starting to get interested in it.
Rey nodded again, as he pressed a combination of numbers on the screen. Dialing the number with Luana's new number, Rey handed the phone to his wife.
"This is my cell phone number," he informed her. "You can keep it."
Luana took the offer, staring pensively at the numbers on the screen.
"I'll pay first, wait here." Rey had already stepped towards the cashier, completing the payment quickly.
Receiving a paper bag containing several cellphone accessories, Rey again nodded his head to reply to the words of thanks spoken by the shop employee.
Glancing at Luana who was behind there, Rey found that the woman was typing something on the screen. Maybe she was saving his cell phone number, he guessed.
"Shall we go now?" Without Luana realizing it, Rey had come back closer, and the woman hurriedly nodded her head.
"We'll be back?"
Rey seemed to think for a moment, but again he really did not hesitate to take Luana's hand. Grasping that soft, delicate hand, as if he loved every sensation when their skin touched.
"Are you hungry? How about eating first?"
Luana really didn't know what made Rey like this. Wasn't the man busy? Why spend time walking around the mall, anyway?
"Come on." Rey was already leading Luana away from there, when she had yet to answer.
Mingling with the other mall visitors, Rey found several pairs of eyes that had been directed at him and his wife. Some of them may have praised the man's good looks, and some of them may have adored Luana's beautiful face.
But for some reason Rey felt happy about it, as if a sense of pride was creeping in because he was announcing to the world that Luana belonged to him.
His wife. His woman. The one he held tightly.
"What would you like to eat, Luana?" asked Rey with a faint glance.
Luana looked closely at the array of restaurants and eateries in front of her, then pointed to one that looked quite simple.
"How about Asian flavors?" she asked, slowing down. "I'm suddenly in the mood for something a little spicy, and the sauteed crab dim sum might be just the thing at the moment. What do you think?"
Looking up to wait for Rey's response, Luana did not realize that her eyes were now bewitching the nobleman. Rey was transfixed for a few seconds, keeping Luana's hopeful hue to himself.
"Good choice," Rey said later. "Come on, let's go."
Luana smiled brightly, as the woman's steps seemed lighter now than before. Luana even unconsciously swayed their handshake gently, which made Rey feel his knees slowly weaken.
'What in the world am I doing right now?' he thought to himself.
Luana's bright smile stirred something inside, which made Rey almost clutch his own chest.
Rey, welcome to the jungle, then.
