When Charles entered the room, Rosabella already felt like she had a full day behind her, fatigue showing on her face. She didn't even give him time to say anything and instead started talking right away.
"When I see Fanny, I'll tell her we're leaving." She declared.
Charles stepped forward and resisted the urge to chuckle at the ugly expression she was trying to convey.
To tease her, he casually shoved his hands in his pockets and tilted his head to the side. "Is that so? And how do you think you'll manage to do it without getting yourself or Fanny in serious trouble?"
Rosabella crossed her arms in exasperation and tossed her hair over her shoulder. She hates it when he talks to her like she's a kid.
"You will arrange."
"I?"
"That's right." She stared at him, unfazed by the amusement on his face.
"Something funny, Charles?"
He shook his head and laughed, running a hand through his hair.
"Actually yes, you think I'll help you and Fanny escape? After you see how Michel is looking for her?"
Rosabella got up from where she was sitting and walked over to him.
"Honestly, your family hasn't done so well since she showed up and neither has she. So instead of being forced to continue this crap, let's break up and count our losses."
Charles thought about this. Rosabella is of the opinion that they have been more chaotic since Fanny was in Michel's life. But he doesn't believe she is the reason.
Yes, it's refreshing that Michel has a weakness, but that doesn't mean they haven't achieved anything. They really only have one meeting and by the way, it will, there will be a big bonus when they get every member of Davies and make them their little army.
Licking his lips, he looked at her. "Are not." He simply said.
Rosabella's face turned into an annoyed scowl. "Are not?"
"Exactly. You can't make that decision. It's not up to you to do it."
"My best friend is broken. Do you understand that? She's broken, Charles. For your people."
Now it was his turn to step forward, speaking in a low voice that made her shiver with fear.
"First of all, they're not our people. We don't rape, trespass, and drugged women. Is that obvious? Not even Gwen has to face this. Second, do you think Michel will let Fanny go? Now? After all that happened?"
"She doesn't want to be with him."
"Not yet." He added with determination.
"Sorry?"
He nodded. "However, Rosabella-ah. In the end, she will. And you know why not? Because she loves him."
Panting, Rosabella turned and walked to the window, keeping her back to him. She doesn't want to hear this.
And what if Fanny loves this bastard? It's not like it changed anything or helped her when she was being held against her will.
"We're leaving anyway. As soon as Mr. Aiden is out of the picture, you'll sort it out. And I'm used to getting what I want." She hissed, her gaze fixed on the beautiful gardens outside the window.
"I know."
Rosabella turned her head nonchalantly, shooting him a glance.
"What do you mean?"
Stepping closer, Charles stood behind her and sensually moved her hair to the side, exposing her neck so he could draw gentle lines on her skin with his index finger, making her belly squeeze in this strange way.
"That's exactly what it means. Your parents are wealthy businessmen. They are owners of a horse-trading company in the countryside. You, as their only daughter, were sent to the best boarding school in city X and was spoiled beyond imagination. But I guess you don't want to take over the business and become a nurse instead it has to be a bitter pill to swallow though. That's no surprise to them - you ended up doing what you wanted, just for the fact that you don't like it..." He said, turning her so that she was facing him and letting his eyes wander the length of her body.
"No matter how much it can give you a beautiful figure..." he added.
Rosabella stared at him with wide eyes as her mouth fell open.
"How do you know all this?"
He shrugged, a smile easily grazing his lips. "It's called a background check. We obviously have one on you."
She wanted to be more cranky but if she had to be honest with herself, she was expecting something like this. It's just that she doesn't think he knows that much.
"Oh, great. And I suppose I don't get the same privileges as you, do I?"
She placed her palms on his chest and tilted her head to the side.
"Tell me, what will I find in your background check? More skeletons in your closet?"
Charles's hands went to her waist as he sneaked them around her form, his fingers tracing the bare skin under her skirt.
She wore a black crew neck top paired with a mini skirt, which was a simple look that still accentuated her femininity.
"I don't deny who I am, Rosabella. I kill when necessary."
Rosabella stared into his eyes and found nothing but the truth in them.
Once again, she couldn't deny that he had never lied to her. However, shouldn't the fact that he was a murderer scare her away from him?
She suddenly thought of all three of her previous boyfriends and became annoyed. They pretended, cheated, and lied in front of her, never realizing how real they were.
Out of it, Rosabella wanted to punch herself for thinking so. Why does she even compare her ex-boyfriend to him?
Charles is not her boyfriend. He is nothing to her.
