As we waited for a taxi, Luca's car pulled up beside us.
"Hop in! I was in the neighborhood. You're on my way!"
Without hesitation, I climbed in with Elise.
"You can file for divorce anytime," he said.
He handed me the divorce petition he'd prepared.
Noticing Elise's downcast expression, Luca mysteriously produced a large toy from his trunk.
"Wow! Buzz Lightyear!"
Elise's eyes lit up as he hugged the toy, examining it from every angle. Just like that, his gloom vanished.
"Thank you for showing up," I said awkwardly. "And for the toy."
Luca scratched his head sheepishly.
Was that a blush on his face?
Luca, Vince, and I had all been law students together. After graduation, I married Vince and became a devoted wife and mother, while Luca went on to become a renowned lawyer.
After another week with no sign of Vince or the signed agreement,
I decided to take matters into my own hands. For Elise's sake, I wanted an amicable separation, so I brought the agreement directly to Sansa's home.
I rang the bell. Sansa answered, her expression hardening when she saw me.
"What are you doing at our house? You're not welcome here."
I brushed past her into the house.
The smell of dinner wafted from the kitchen. In the living room, Vince was playing horsey with Danny, both laughing. They looked like the perfect family. I was the intruder.
Vince looked embarrassed when he saw me. Without a word, I handed him a pen, cap removed.
"Sign it. Then I'll leave and won't disturb your family dinner."
Vince's face darkened as he stared at the agreement, his hand slowly clenching.
Sansa approached in her apron, gently tugging at his sleeve.
"Vince, since she's so eager for a divorce, let's give her what she wants. She even came to our home for it."
Her tone was gentle and reasonable, as if she were doing me a favor.
Vince ignored her, grabbing my arm and pulling me outside.
