Mr. Duke took out a fading envelope from his nightstand drawer. His voice was shaky but determined as he spoke, "Before... everything happened, I made certain adjustments to my will. Bobby was acting like a different man, and I knew it. Now, I want you and Derrick, and of course, these two little charmers, to be taken care of."

He handed Sarah the envelope, his hand trembling slightly. Sarah opened it cautiously and looked over its contents, her eyes widening. The will had been updated to give Sarah, Derrick, and the twins the lion's share of Mr. Duke's estate.

Her eyes filled with tears. Her voice trembling with passion, "Mr. Duke, you don't have to do this,"

Mr. Duke yelled, "Nonsense," his voice steady in spite of his weakness. "Consider it a belated apology for misjudging Bobby. And besides," he added with a wink, "who else will spoil these two rotten scoundrels?"

A wave of gratitude washed over Sarah. Beyond simply providing money, Mr. Duke's act represented acceptance, trust, and the possibility of a fresh start for all of them.

Mr. Duke was mesmerized with Sarah and Derrick's stories of the twins' exploits, their silly antics, and their maturing personalities during the afternoon.

Laughter rang through the room, a welcome change from the tight hush that had enveloped them only days earlier.

Sarah bent over to give Mr. Duke a quick peck on the cheek as they said their goodbyes. "Thank you," she muttered, her voice full of emotion.

Mr. Duke gave her a handshake. "No, Sarah," he replied, his voice weak but resolute. "Thank you. For being strong, for taking care of Derrick, and for giving me these two wonderful grandsons."

With a hint of hesitation, Sarah said, "There's something else we need to tell you, Mr. Duke," her voice hardly audible, pausing, unable to go anymore.

Derrick stretched out and gave her a comforting grip on the hand. "It's about the twins," he continued, staring at their dozing faces.

A flicker of curiosity crossed Mr. Duke's pale face. "About the twins? What is it?"

Sarah took a deep breath. "Mr. Duke," she said gently, "the twins… they're not Bobby's biological children."

Mr. Duke's brow furrowed in surprise. "Not Bobby's? But I thought…"

"We weren't sure how you would respond, so we didn't tell you," Derrick shot back. However, the twins are indeed mine."

Mr. Duke's eyes moved from Sarah to Derrick, and for a brief instant, his expression was unreadable. Then, with enjoyment sparkling in his eyes, a slow smile stretched across his face.

"Well, Derrick," he said with a feeble but humorous laugh, "you certainly kept that surprise under wraps for a while."

Derrick sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. "It wasn't something we readily advertised, sir. But Sarah and I… we fell in love before she ever met Bobby."

Sarah squeezed his fingers as her cheeks began to flush. "It was an intense romantic relationship," she said, grinning.

Mr. Duke grinned more broadly. "A chaotic love story that produced two stunning grandsons," he remarked, his tone slightly full of pride. "I couldn't be happier for you both, regardless of whose genes they carry."

A wave of relief enveloped Sarah and Derrick. Their hearts warmed by Mr. Duke's acceptance and his genuine excitement at the news, they had braced themselves for a negative response.

Sarah responded, "Thank you, Mr. Duke," her voice full with emotion. "It means a lot to us."

With a playful twinkle in his eyes, he remarked, "You know, maybe this whole ordeal wasn't such a bad thing after all". It brought you two back together, and it gave me two amazing grandsons."

Sarah and Derrick exchanged a look, their hearts overflowing with gratitude. They had survived a nightmare, but from the ashes, a new beginning had bloomed.

Later, as they were leaving, Mr. Duke reached out and grasped Sarah's hand. "Sarah," he said, his voice filled with a newfound respect, "you and Derrick are two exceptional people. You faced incredible challenges with grace and strength. And you gave these precious boys the love and stability they deserve."

Tears welled up in Sarah's eyes. "Thank you, Mr. Duke," she whispered. "Your support means the world to us."

Mr. Duke squeezed her hand before turning his gaze to Derrick. "And Derrick," he said, a hint of pride in his voice, "you've grown into a fine man. Taking responsibility for your actions speaks volumes about your character. Be a good father to those boys, and never let them doubt your love."

Derrick nodded solemnly, a lump forming in his throat. "I won't, dad. I promise."

Leaving the hospital that day, Sarah and Derrick exchanged a look that spoke volumes. The road ahead wouldn't be easy. It would be difficult to rebuild both their business and their lives.

However, confidence began to grow in them as they observed the twins, laughing in the back seat and reaching out with their little hands to each other.

They had Mr. Duke's love and support in their memories, their newfound family, and each other. They knew then that they could take on whatever lay ahead of them.

When this dark chapter ended, a new story awaited, one full of love, joy, and the promise of a better tomorrow.

When the twins fell asleep in their car seats on the way home, tired from their playful activities, a cozy silence descended upon the room.

There was a renewed sense of stability and hope mixed with the weight of the information of Mr. Duke's will.

The doom of the past had faded, to be replaced by the steadfast love of family, the bravery to confront reality, and the hope of a future beyond their wildest dreams.

As they reached their doorstep, exhaustion finally settled in. The emotional rollercoaster of the day – the joy of reuniting with Mr. Duke, the relief of sharing their secret, and the hope for the future – hit them all at once.

Sarah gently placed the sleeping twins in their cribs, their peaceful breaths a soothing melody. Derrick, his arm draped around Sarah's shoulder, pulled her close.

"That was… unexpected," he admitted, his voice low.

"Unexpectedly good, you mean?" Sarah teased, a hint of a smile playing on her lips.

Derrick chuckled. "Definitely good. I was worried how Mr. Duke would take the news about the twins."

"Me too," Sarah admitted, her voice laced with honesty. "But seeing his reaction… it was a relief."

They stood there in comfortable silence for a moment, their eyes lingering on the sleeping twins. Ever the fidgety one, Ethan stirred just a little and reached out to touch the mobile that hung over his crib.

She said, "They've been through so much already," with a note of concern.

"They're strong little guys," Derrick comfortingly remarked. "They will be OK. We will ensure that.

Sarah whispered, "He looks just like you," with a mix of wonder and affection in her voice.

Gently, Derrick leaned down to remove a stray hair from Ethan's forehead. "He does, doesn't he?" He pondered. "And Leo… maybe a little of you in the chin, but otherwise…"

"He's all yours," Sarah finished for him, a proud smile gracing her lips. She reached out and intertwined her fingers with his. "We're a family, Derrick. A real family."

Derrick squeezed her hand tightly. "And nothing will ever break that," he vowed.

"Coffee?" Derrick asked, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.

Sarah chuckled. "Coffee sounds perfect."

They moved to the kitchen, the familiar clinking of mugs and the warm aroma of brewing coffee filling the air. As they settled at the table, a comfortable silence descended.

"He took the news surprisingly well," Sarah finally said, breaking the silence.

Derrick nodded, swirling the dark liquid in his mug. "He did," he agreed. "I was bracing myself for something… different."

"Me too," Sarah admitted. "But maybe that's just who he is, Mr. Duke. Always looking for the good in people."

A sense of relief enveloped Sarah and Derrick as they retired to their bedroom. Now that they had conquered their obstacles and come out on top, they were prepared to write their own happy ending.

They had a bright future ahead of them, full of messy adventures, laugh-filled days, and the kind of unwavering love that comes only from family.

Their twins, each other, and the enduring memory of Mr. Duke's love and support was all they had.

With that knowledge, they were prepared to embark on a lifetime of memories-making endeavors with their small family, ready to tackle whatever lay ahead.
