Talia's POV
I spent the rest of the day half awake and half asleep. Never fully conscious.
I slept off on their couch where Maxine and I manage to have a little chat. She seemed bored and in need of company.
I could only imagine how she was living, all the restrictions Karl would have imposed on her.
It was dark soon and I was expecting Karl anytime.
Maxine brought some food for me which I ate as fast as I could as I was getting jittery and nervous already.
Breaking into the palace had somehow been added to my to do list. I had to do that to get across to Tracy.
I counted numbers over and over again in various orders before I finally saw him come down.
I threw the duvet Maxine gave me aside and stood up.
He wore the same clothe he wore the previous night.
'I hate to take you out in this condition, but I hope you understand why I'm impatient." He said.
'You should be apologising for keeping me so late." I replied instead.
'Well I'm sorry about that too. I had to make sure Maxine was asleep. All this is a bit hard on her." He apologized.
'I can only imagine." I replied to him.
'Let's go. They must be waiting for me by now." Ha said.
We went out through a back door I never knew they had and he bolted the door.
'Why here?" I asked
'Kael wasn't wrong about you." He observed. 'He said you were smart and quick witted. He was going to make a life with you, you know. Anyways, about your question, I don't go out and come in through the same door." He replied.
'Okay." It was all I could say. He had sent my thoughts down a familiar path.
'We are nearing there. You know we aren't too far from Vance. Which I why I chose this house from among all the house…" He trailed off and I understood why. He wasn't exactly proud of his ownership and occupancy.
'I get you." I said, putting him at ease.
We got closer and closer to the palace. With each step I took, I felt more weight placed on my chest.
Karl was already getting skeptical on my behalf and had suggested about fifty ways I could get out of the palace if I hit in and chickened out, or if I got stuck on the fence.
I appreciated his concern, but I needed motivation, and I decided to draw it from within.
I felt guilty for it, but all I had to do was remember how helpless Kael looked on that fucking bier.
We got there in no time, I squeezed Karl's and and departed from him.
I didn't want to say anymore, lest he discouraged me, I wouldn't have been able to resist it.
I didn't hear him walk away, and I was glad he was that concerned about me.
I got as close as I could gmto the fence and pit my ear to it.
There were security cameras all over, I knew that. I also knew that Vance's security had gotten quite lax of recent.
Determined to exploit that pothole, I walked to the side of the house from the other side, there were cameras, but it was the most neglected side as if faced the cool forest that provided the house with all the breeze in it.
In the midst of trees and shrubs, I let myself up on a branch that felt strong enough, and I latched on to the fence.
As if predestined, the branch cut and left me hanging, my scarf too was hooked on the wire protection on the top of the fence. I was strangling and hanging.
I was also weak and barely recovered.
Determined to not let anything stop me from meeting Tracy, I dragged myself up on my weak arms and tried to hang on some other branch.
None felt strong enough and all broke under my weight, making the most annoying noises.
I was getting paranoid and scared already, but giving up wasn't an option.
I took a deep breath, and with my hand, I dragged myself up and carefully avoided the electric extensions on the fence, till it was time to get down on the other side.
The ground was farther from the fence than I gave it credit for. Taking another deep breath, I jumped down and sprained my muscle.
I managed to hold back the yelp at the top of my tongue.
Picked myself up and started limping to what I projected to be her window.
Thanfully and surprisingly, there was no one around.
I was shocked but happy, and hobbled as fast as I could to her window.
Once I got there, I tapped on it, mindful of whoever could still be up and roaming.
'Come home. Come home baby, come home." I heard her mumble from her room.
I knew what was up and I was grateful I met her whole she was wasted.
I tapped again and heard feet shuffle towards me.
I turned immediately, but there was no one.
I knew I had to hurry the fuck up and get out of there
When I liked back inside, her face was staring directly at mine.
I was almost thrown off balance.
'Who are you?" She asked, pointing and slurring her words.
'You don't need to know." I did a poor job of crafting a mask out of my scarf while I was waiting for her to come to the window.
'I'll scream and you'll be dead in a matter of seconds." She threatened.
I knew she wasn't going to do it. Something about my voice and being a female wouldn't want her to do it to me.
'What are you here for girl?" She asked. I new she wanted to get back to her routine as fast as she could.
'Talia." I said.
'Are you out of your fucking mind?" She said, reducing her voice.
'No. I'm not. You know something you're not saying about her. As you should." I said.
'Are you mad?" She asked again. 'You think you can just break in here and question a dead Luna like it's a normal thing? Do you have a death wish?" She was getting red faster than I thought.
'Something big is about to happen, and unless you confess, not to me, to Vance, everything you know about it, you're going down too." I said.
'You walk in here, called a dead Luna by her name, do the same for the Alpha, threaten me, plan a rebellion and say it in my face. You must be drunk!" She started shutting the window on me.
'It would sure be very nice to see Nadia give you up to save herself." I replied to her.
'What do you want me to do?" She asked.
'Confess all you know to Vance. It was a stupid mistake. But you can still save yourself, throw Nadia and Landon under the bus. Say the truth. Clear m.. Clear the poor girls name." My voice had started to break.
'You know too much to be here. Go and never come back. Never speak to me anymore too. I don't know who you are, and please, do not know me." She locked the window in haste and went as far as she could.
