Talia's POV
'I was just coming to that question." He said.
He stared into space for a while, before he finally started to talk.
'I just hope Maxine is not somewhere near to hear this, otherwise you would have broken my family apart. But I'm tired too. I'm tired of living like a criminal." The man said.
'Then why are you here?" I asked again.
'Somehow, the bastard gassed my beta up so much, that one started to organise a rebellion." He said. 'I left before they hatched their plan." He concluded.
'And Maxine?" I asked.
'Met her here." At least he had a smile on his face when he said it.
'And the house?" I asked again.
'Now that has a bit of my horrible past." He sighed before continuing. 'I once had some of my men come and threaten Landon, once when he though he could pull out of a deal. Well they attacked a few people, and here we are." He said, not looking very proud of himself.
'That's tragic. You took over other people's house." I had no moral right to judge anyone at that point. I had not done so many right things up till that moment.
'Well you took over someone else's life." He said.
And for a moment, I stopped to really think about it.
I felt what I was doing was proper at the time, because it was easier living Isla's life, than it was mine. But I was a fraud. I was crumbling her world in the real sense of it. I was breaking the heart of her true love, I had even begin to love him.
I covered my face because of the instant wave of shame I felt.
I was with someone who got me thoroughly, the first in a very long while.
'Enough of me." He said. 'Why are you here? Now? In this position? I'm Moonstone??!" He asked.
'Well, not so long a story. I'm here for Revenge. Got inappropriately tangled with the Laoha, my ex husband. He locked me tied me and almost raped me. Somehow I escaped and crashed where you met me." I explained to him.
He knew there had to be more details to it, but he let it be.
'What are you going to do next?" He asked me.
'I wat to expose Nadia and Landon for who they are. That's all I've ever had to do." I replied to him.
'And how do you plan to do that?" He asked me.
'They have a maid, one I've made quite an impression on. I plan to press her till she confesses what she knows about me, well, about Talia. Nadia would obviously try to play smart, but all I can hope for is to catch her before she does me." I said. I knew Nadia was more crafty and cunning than I gave her credit for, so I was not willing to take any chances.
'That's not an elaborate plan, not foolproof too, but I hope it works for you." He said. I was glad he stopped there before watering down all my optimism.
'I think it's just fine." I retorted. 'What were you doing coming from there in the dead of night?" I asked him.
'I'm not the only one here who hates Landon." He said, smiling. 'There's more than just the two of us." He continued, referring to just the both of us.
It was a bitter-sweet moment. I did not want such a future for my only brother, but he was irreparably evil, and he had to go.
Satisfied with what he said, I rest my head back a bit and mull over all that just happened.
Kael was a blessing to me, even in death, I ciukf still feel him helping me.
'I think you should be quick with whatever it is you have lined up though" He said, breaking the silence. 'According to sources, Landon is staging an attack on Vance. He already has the support of my stupid pack, Moonlily, I really wonder what he promised them. Anyway, that is happening in less than two weeks. We have to have him down by then. Go after Nadia first, leave Landon to us." He completed.
That made sense. One less demon to battle.
I nodded in agreement and decided to focus my efforts on getting Nadia out down. I was going to pay a visit to the palace later in the dark. Most preferably when Tracy was high, that would serve my purpose.
'Maxine must be wondering what is keeping us by now. Let's go back." He gave me a hand, with which I lifted my wasted body up and dragged myself back to their couch, with the tea he spat on me earlier half dried and totally forgotten about.
We got back to Maxine sitting gracefully, breastfeeding their child.
It was such a surreal moment.
She didn't know it, but I was jealous of her.
Kael and I could have had our own beautiful little family, or maybe a large one, in the cottage, somewhere far away from danger. Somewhere we could moan very loudly while enjoying each other. We would have been so God tighter. We both knew it. With everyday that passed, I regretted not letting him in sooner. It was such a bloody
Nostalgia, my biggest enemy, was eating me out.
I knew I had to do something real soon. Something like disconnecting from my past life.
'We leave together , at midnight." He said and left me.
Maxine look troubled, but asked no questions. Karl took the sleeping baby, who looked so much like him and went upstairs.
'I'm sorry to have stolen you away from him for such a long." I apologized.
'Nah. That's alright." She said, taking her face into her hands and looking straight ahead with a very lost gaze. 'Are you one of those he has to do business with at night?" She asked, lowering her voice to the barest minimum, nothing short of a whisper.
'It's a lot more than that. He'd tell you when it's safer. I promise you that." I kinda felt bad for her, but I knew it was safer that wa.
'That's the same thing he's been saying for the past two years. I have a baby with him now. I don't want to be a young widow with a little child. Y'all better make up your mind and tell me as soon as possible." She didn't sound mad, she sounded like she was breaking. I can't imagine what strain that put on their relationship.
It then struck me that I forgot to ask about his Luna. It wasn't my business, yet.
