Landon's POV

Just like that, I never saw Nadia again. One moment she came, begging me to figure out something as Vance was ready to crack down on me, us. The next, she's smiling contentedly in Vance's arms and avoiding my eyes.

The switch up was so fast and hard that it got me questioning if all that happened really did. Why was she acting this way? I was mad at myself and her at the same time.

‘Or has she sold me out to Vance?' All sorts of thoughts kept going through my head, and I couldn't stop it.

At first, I kept to myself, playing the game I thought she was also playing, until I saw her curving and avoiding me a couple of times. I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me something was wrong.

It was then I had a little chat with Vance's hideous maid who kept as mute as a stone while I talked to her. She had no choice but to comply, firstly, no one turned the beta down, secondly, she knew better than to do that.

'So this time it's not some poison?" Tracy asked sarcastically when I was done.

'No, dummy. I just clearly said ‘a note'." I said frustrated. 'Get a paper and a pen." I instructed her, looking over my shoulder. I can't be caught with his personal servant. Already, Vance and I are not so cool, it would definitely cause some upheaval.

Tracy went out for quite a while. If it wasn't for the hurt I felt for Vance abs Nadia tossing me, I would have quit it and headed home. But the ball was already in motion, stopping had never been an option to me.

She came back a few moments later and handed it over to me.

I looked in her eyes before collecting them from her. Her face was straight, expressionless. No fear. ‘This is what you get for frolicking with maids, Landon.'

I took the paper from her and wrote on it, tore it out and asked her to recopy another piece.

She did. I tore that out too and handed it to her. She looked shocked and just stood staring at me.

'I don't mean to be Captain Obvious, but that is what I want you to give to him. Tonight." I explained to her.

'Vance knows my handwriting. He knows I would never write something like that. In all the years I've served him, he doesn't even know why I do it. I'm sorry I can't do this." She was stoic and very composed. ‘What sort of woman is this?' I thought to myself.

I kept looking at her to make her remember, if she had forgotten, that we both could get killed if I decided to rat out our plan.

In that moment, something in my subconscious remembered that Talia once said something about her having a son. It was one of those visits I paid to her after she just married Vance. She was my baby sis, so it was customary. I also needed to keep up with appearance to convince Vance that I wasn't in on it with Nadia and the stunt she pulled was all her.

Talia said it was confidential and was expecting me to make findings so we could help Tracy since she also didn't have a wolf. Bless her kind heart.

I decided to try my luck. She couldn't harm me and it was definitely worth the shot. 'How's your son?" I asked, smirking.

Her sudden gasp and the creeping redness in her cheeks and eyes were all it took for me to know that I had hit my mark.

She immediately took it and walked out. I was no stranger to Vance's place, so I found my way out.

By my instructions and calculation, Nadia should be all alone. Vance would have gone to a stipulated place to meet with the wind. It was my time to strike.

I dressed up with my mind on how best I could approach it. This was my one and only shot, Nadia had to comply. If I squandered this opportunity, Vance would not fall for any other prank as he would know Tracy was messing with him. I left what she was going to explain to him at her discretion.

'Hi there." I said, as I announced my presence dramatically. Nadia looked like she had just seen a ghost. The whole place was quiet, and we both know it wasn't smart to risk anyone hearing our voices from Vance's bedroom

'This doesn't have to take time." I started, approaching her cautiously. 'You know what I'm here for, but if you don't decide to start, I will."

'I don't appreciate you being too close to me." Nadia warned, her voice betraying nervousness.

'I don't care what you appreciate. How about that?" I snapped at her quickly. Nadia slammed her mouth shut and just kept looking at me.

'Good." I commented. 'Now that I have your attention, do you mind telling me why you have been avoiding me for weeks now?

'Who said I was avoiding you?" She asked with a very rude tone. ' According to priorities, the Alpha just came first." She knew she hit her mark. But it wasn't going to succeed.

'Well , that's alright." I conceded. 'Now, all I need from you is to tell me what happened." I asked, helping myself to the edge of the bed.

'You're not asking about the Alphas personal life, are you?" Nadia replied.

'No, I have my sources for that. I'm asking about yours." I said to her, She looked shocked, I was happy.

'That's quite a long jump, don't you think?" She replied.

'Well not if I've sworn not to leave here without what I came for." I shot back.

'And what is it you came for?" She asked. I knew Nadia was buying time.

Vance would have gotten there by now. Being someone with very little patience and the fact that he now has peace in his home, he'd probably be on his way back.

'You." I sneered. She looked shocked, and it made me laugh. 'I'm joking. I don't need you for now. Just answers to a few questions." I reiterated.

'Fuck me." Nadia whispered, sadly.

'The agenda is different." I had poked her enough to my satisfaction. 'What did you and Vance make of the case?"

'You would have to ask him that. I simply told him I could not continue." She replied sharply.

'Just like that?" I asked.

She couldn't give an answer as we both heard Vance's jeep pulled up.

Our eyes locked in fear.
