Landons POV
'If you wanted to leave me as bad as you painted it, you shouldn't have been back running at the first invitation I offered." I said without even turning back to look at her matter of fact, I knew she was on my trail.
Talia's last rites are going to be carried out by the Alpha only, asthey were both one in the eyes of Moon Goddess.
'You can't blame me, can you?" She asked back in a very flirty feminine tone.
'Where Vance?" I asked her, tarrying a bit. Whether I like it or not, he's now between us, but we have to make it work.
'You know where." She replied sharply. 'Stop asking funny questions. He has a right to say goodbye to his lost love, right?" She asked me. I know better than to respond. The question sounds like the trap it actually is.
'We are not here for this." I bring both of us back to reality. We are not more the Landon and Nadia we both used to be, brawling and arguing over trivial issues, each getting back at the other, making up over steamy hot sex, well, that part could still always be. 'We both know our plan still stands, right?" I asked her, hitting the point straight, so she can do the same.
'What plan?"She threw back.
'Don't be…" I quickly saved the rest. It's really not the best time to say something that would annoy her or put her in her place. The time for that would always come. Now is the time to get my peace by pieces, no matter what it takes. 'The plan we have always had, Nadia. The very same plan." my eyes are wide and bright, I can feel it. It really is a last attempt to Mae this conversation go civil.
'So much has happened since then, Landon." She says flippantly, which quite annoys me, but I let it slide. 'Would you mind going over it?" I catch the slight upturn at the tip of her lips. She must be having so much fun, and building her non-existent dignity from knowing that I am not also below her by virtue of her place as Luna.
'Nadia, it's the same. Always and forever. We both ant it we need it." I draw closer to her to put a hand on her lap, but her immediate amd visible muscle contraction screams me off. So I now repulse her?
'Landon." Nadia calls me and waits an awfully long minute before continuing. 'I wanted to be Luna, that's all I've always and ever wanted. Whether yours or someone else's doesn't really matter. What counts is the fact that I am not the first lady in this pack. You know what that's called?" She asked me.
'Betrayal?" I'm quite irritated and I know it's a little obvious from my tone, but it's a ‘no back down, no surrender' moment for Nadia, and I'm sure she would not hesitate to rip all the respect she ever had for me in tiny shreds, one after the other.
'It's called a dream come true." She answered her own question, mindless of what I said. And it hits me. This switch actually is nothing but an eye opener. Vance's reign with Talia is going to be bliss compared to what might come from this wicked combination, that I intentionally or unintentionally created.
'So what do you say?" I have no more ways to convince her to hand Vance over to me, I think it's time to throw in the towel.
'Well…" That's my Nadia! 'That would be if you had something better to offer than having me as a trophy replacement who you wouldn't look at or touch in private, let alone talk to or even ask for my opinions…" She trails off. I knew something was off. If Nadia was in the paradise she made Vance's house seem like, she would not have been on my trail knowing fully well that Vance would be looking for her any minute from now. And the fact that we both disappeared seconds apart doesn't leave much room for denial.
'So y'all have not had sex?" I asked again for confirmation.
'That's not your business." Nadia fired back.
I put a hand on her leg. She does not flinch this time. That's a green sign.
'You know you can talk to me." I said to her in the calmest way possible.
'How were you never this soft and approachable in all the years we were together." She asked, her eyes now glossy and her smile very sad. 'I was always the evil sidekick, the sex slave, the mate, the punching bag, literally any and everything you deemed me worth at any point in time. And now you want me to talk to you about someone who has done far less?" I hate how Nadia could snap in and out of her emotions. She's always been a robot.
'Don't be this way, Baby." My hands are now sliding up, slow and steady. Initially, there was no resistance, but in the flash of a second, she threw my hands off her body.
'I'm not a fool, Landon. I wasn't born yesterday either. I know what game it is you are playing." I knew it. Nadia is too smart to be swayed by gimmicks and pranks.
'Baby," I called her, calming her down, but she does not look like she's having it. 'I love you, always have. And I really think you, we, would like it better if what we have always ever wanted comes to pass." At this point, I'm appealing to her with my eyes, and body, every single language there is. 'You being my Luna would be the greatest thing that could ever happen to me." I hope that sounds like something.
'Landon, the time is far spent." She says sitting up. 'I really do think I should be on my way." And I think she means that.
'Wait!" I shouted, 'please, wait. Nadia, promise me that when I eventually do think of something you would be open to doing it with me." I have to extract a promise from her, if I fail now, I've failed forever.
'It depends." That was too succinct to be reassuring.
'On what, Nadia?" I asked her.
'On whether I prefer my new partner or I want my old toxic sad, misogynistic relationship so much to want to be back at it." She platers a smile on her face, and in that moment, I feel hurt, truly hurt.
'I'll keep in touch." I said
'Don't."
'Bye, Nadia."
