ALPHA LYALL.
I paced around the room with alarming preciseness. Trenton, my Beta, was yet to arrive and I'd waited over ten minutes.
I'd never been this impatient my whole life. All I wanted to do was talk to him at least. Tell him I had plans without telling him the actual truth because hell, I knew he wasn't going to be in support of this.

But I didn't care. I didn't care what people thought about me wanting Aria. My inability to care about what people thought as long as I got what I wanted came into perfect use right at this moment. I wanted Aria and I was going to get her. It didn't matter how. By hook or crook, all I knew was that I would get her.
He arrived moments later, shutting the door behind him as he crossed over to where I stood.
"What's up? I was called upon. Is something wrong?"
I immediately stopped and composed myself. He didn't have to know what my intentions were. He also didn't have to see how worried I was.
"Nothing is wrong," I stopped by the mantlepiece and picked up a picture frame standing behind one of the artifacts I had gotten from my trip to Constantinople.
It was a painting of Sheila and me a few weeks after our marriage. We were smiling at it. A surprise. I remembered being told to smile to look happy but I felt...empty. Not unhappy but empty.

"I need you to get intel on someone for me."
"Who is that?"
"Do you remember that maid who nearly got assaulted by Marcellina that night at the party?"
He thought for a while. Of course, how was he supposed to remember when we had over a thousand maids in the Palace? I had to be more specific.

"Yes, I do," He replied and I sighed in relief. "What about her?"
"I need you to get every information you have about her. Where she is from, her family and how she was shipped here."
Trenton frowned slightly. "Is there something I don't know?"
I whipped my head to look at him. "You don't have to know, Trenton. Just do as I have asked you to do. It's not so hard, is it?"
Trenton sighed and nodded. "Alright then. I'll make quick investigations."
"Good. I need it before evening."

Hours later, Trenton joined me at the courtyard along with a few other Alphas and important members of the council I had invited for an evening sit outside the Palace.
"Excuse me, please," I said to the men before pushing my seat back and standing to my feet. I walked over to him and grabbed him by the arm before pulling him to the side, away from earshot. "What do you have on her?"
"She's from Blue Stone Pack and she lost her father at a very young age and at eighteen, her mother died, leaving her with her stepfather. I had to pay some people to get this information from them and I was told that he mistreated her so badly before he sold her. But no one knows why he sold her or what triggered him to sell her. If it was money, he had no issue with it because a lot of rich men were willing to marry her. So something more complicated must have happened between them for him to throw her out."
I was honestly glad that whatever pushed him into selling her to me had happened. Because I would never have met my true mate. I would never have seen her. But she was here now and I had the chance to be with her.
"Then find it out."
Trenton frowned slightly. "Is there something you are not telling me? Something I should know?"
I sighed and shook my head. "It's none of your business. Just do as I have asked you to, Trenton."
Sighing, he nodded before he turned to walk away.
I walked back to the table, smiling at the men as I joined them once again. We shared a few drinks and had a few discussions on Kingdom politics before everyone dispersed later in the evening.
I decided to go to the servant's quarters not because I wanted to but because my body refused me from going directly to my chambers.
Sometimes, I wished Sheila was back. That way, it would be easier for me to curb my desires for the fear of not disappointing her but she wasn't to be back until a week and this gave me the liberty to do whatever I wanted.
Sighing, I made a beeline for the servants' quarters, ignoring how everyone moved out of the way for me. It wasn't a new thing or something I'd never experienced before so I wasn't the least bothered.
I looked around in search of her and Lord knew I couldn't ask anyone about her. These people were good at keeping gossip a secret.
So I made my way back like I was inspecting the rooms and just before I made my way down the last room, I caught sight of a familiar figure walking down the hallway. I stopped for a brief moment and hid in the corner before going after her.
She slipped out through a door and that was when I found out she had a pile of clothes in her hand.
She spread it on the line while humming a few songs under her breath and when she turned, I hid in the shadows before leaving the hallway. As soon as I got out of the servants' quarters, I nearly bumped into the chief maid. I had no idea what her name was but as soon as she saw me, she quickly bowed and hurried off.
Stalking her was futile because I needed more. I needed more than stalking her. I had to be around her.
Being away from her frustrated the hell out of me. So much that I wanted to just forget about everything and be with her instead. Nothing else mattered anyway.
